Yes, we do prepare Modak in South India during Ganapathi festival. We prepare both fried and steamed Modak. The fried ones are with wheat flour for the outer shell (kavach) with the same pooran and steamed one is exactly your recipe. Please upload more videos as I would love to watch u all the time 🤩😍

Hi Madhuri ji, I am Shilpa and I am a South Indian we also make modaks at Ganesh puja and few other festivals also. This time I made modaks for the very first time and trust me it was the same way as you did, but was a small change. I first boiled water and added little bit of salt sugar and a pinch of cardamom powder and a spoon of ghee in it and then started adding rice flour to the boiling water so that there will be no lumps further. And also for two cups flour i took 3 cups of water. Very nice cooking by you ❤️

Add little salt in rice for the better taste. Always use nutmeg powder vd jaggery instead of cardamom powder. It's always observed that cardamom powder goes vd sugar not vd jaggery. Always put first ghee then Kaskas then coconut then jaggery and then nutmeg powder. But the attempt was good. Keep it up 💯 out of 💯 . God bless. Take care

In Karnataka, we have a similar dish called Kadubu. It has the same filling as that of modak and is either steamed or deep fried. They are usually prepared for Ganesh Chathurthi again☺️

We make this alot in karnataka with different fillings n shapes and are called kadubu/ade/gatti..!! we make it in both spicy n sweet variants, steamed n fried, wrapped in banana, jackfruit, turmeric leaves. The spicy ones are eaten with coconut chutney n loads of ghee!!🤤

In odisha we make the same thing with different shape and we don't put ghee in the last. We use to call it Mandaa Pitha. At different places people call it with different names . However the taste is super awesome ❤️❤️. Anyone Odia who agree with me hit like..

We keralites call it as "Kozhukatta" 😀😀 in my childhood it was a evening snack my mom used to make it once in a week .. you can flattten the same atta on the banana leaf or turmeric leaf fill Modak mixture in it n fold the leaves ..n steam if you make it on Turmeric leaves eat it once it gets totally cool.If you like it please let me know as well.
