In this Madness guitar solo lesson, I will show you how to play this great guitar solo by Matthew Bellamy of Muse.
Most of the song uses various synth-like sounds. However, midway through the song, Bellamy launches into a cool guitar solo that starts of bluesy before moving into a fast string skipping lick that requires a HUGE stretch in the left hand.
I will show you exactly how he picks this section since it makes all the difference in the world.
One quick note. Just as I stated in the video lesson, if you watch him play this solo live, you will notice that he plays it one-fret lower than I teach in this video lesson. It is hard to tell because the Manson guitar he is using doesn't have any fret markers.
The reason for this is because the live version is a half-step lower in pitch than the original recording which I am basing this lesson off of (probably to help perform the high vocal parts live).
Instead of tuning his guitar down a half-step which would allow him to play the solo the same way he recorded it, he opts to simply play the same solo on a standard tuned guitar exactly one-fret lower than he did on the studio recording.
So if you are playing along with a live version you will want to do the same.
