Mado Robin était l'idole de Maman. L'air des clochettes l'a accompagnée dans sa dernière demeure; Quelle émotion. Malheureusement, Mado Robin nous a quittés précocement. Je suis allé lui rendre hommage sur sa tombe à Yzeures sur Creuse.....

Marvelllllousss ! (it's strange she's singing in Italian - so much so that Donizetti himself madre a French version of his Lucie.

mado robin is one of many opera singers who sang this role and she truly made me believe that lucia was pissed off at her family for making her marry someone that she didn't want to and my heart broke for her for what she had to do for her family and she died of a broken heart because of it and edgardo found out that lucia passed away from a broken heart and joined her in heaven a very short time later and it broke my heart all over again.

The Bb that synchronized with the flute was amazing I can hear the buzz in the microtonal differences in pitch. LIstening to it with headphones.

Robin was the heir to Lily Pons and the predecessor to Mady Mesplé, singer of the French canary school of singing. Her upper extension was incredible, though like the other two, her voice was tiny. After the advent of Callas and later, Sutherland, who could sing this music with infinitely larger and more colorful voices, this type of singer became more or less a novelty. In Germany, there was the wonderful and gorgeous Ingeborg Hallstein and in the US, we had the wonderful Beverly Hoch. I think Natalie Dessay was the most recent singer in this tradition, though to me, she sounds more colorful than her French predecessors. The only nit I can pick with Robin is that her fioriture is often a bit aspirated, with Hs stuck between the notes. Otherwise, she's a joy.

That screeching showing off at the end ruins the whole thing for me...She had the notes, but she didn't have the taste... and that counts for so much.

Never cared for her voice, or singing style. But for her era, she really was an artist. (The B-flat was impressive and wonderfully executed. But in my opinion was unnecessary for the role.)
