Ye 🐀 Spent a long time woring on this. Quite excited for the new madoka magica movie to come out 😼🫶 Can this be considered an Animatic? (actually probably not lol) Programs used: Ibis Paint X CapCut Song: Brutus - The Buttress
Y'ALL I did not expect this to do so well 😭 I'm really glad that you guys enjoy watching this 🐀💖 Also, keep leaving comments of how you guys interpret this lol. I like reading them, and seeing what y'all thought of it. Might do another Madoka Magica Pmv in the future if I find a song that clicks. Might even do an AU, where the roles are swapped 👀
You COOKED with this. I've been hyperfixating so strongly on this series (specifically Homura she's peak) and you really captured what I love about this series and its characters so much
My Revised Version: My name is Homura and my name means "flame". So with a burning heart, I'll fire this bullet between the eyes of my enemy. ( I had the urge to turn "flame" into "flaming" to match the rhyme scheme of the song but her name doesn't mean "flaming" it means "flame" so..)
"Instead of you, it should be me." God, that line fits so well with Homura's self loathing or self-sacrificial tendencies that we see again and again. Her desire to be the one who faces the reprocussions of Madoka's wish.
THIS TAKE MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! If you consider the fact, that in Homura's first timeline, she was a shy transfer student who met the out going sweet class president Madoka and thus her fate changed. In the movie ending scene, in Homura's created world for keeping Madoka, she made herself the popular graceful class president while Madoka was the shy new transfer student. Even though, Homura made friends with everyone else too in the series, her eyes are always on Madoka, it's what Madoka chooses to do or what Madoka's actions are that prompts Homura again and again to change her actions. Maybe it wasn't her obsession with Madoka herself but more to her obsession with saving Madoka as a form of saving herself that drove her insane. Maybe she didn't see Madoka as her one and only first friend but more of a, Madoka was what she wants to become or what she could become, had faith not messed them up so hard.
(Rlly don't mean to offend but) wasn't Madoka the nurses aid? Homura had a heart condition, which was why Madoka was escorting her in the first timeline iirc
God you can just FEEL Homura’s desperation and anger, how the fact she resettled the timeline so many times just so Madoka didn’t die changed her and not in a good way to the point her goal only just became ‘SAVE MADOKA’. Homura is a prime example on why you do NOT give literal children the power to time travel as this is the result, she genuinely did want to help but at this point was at the reach of her breaking point that she closed off her emotions, afraid of being hurt. This animation was great and Brutus fits Homura really well!
Originally I just left a comment excited to see a Madoka Magica animation that came out relatively recently, but the way this interprets Homura is *so* interesting actually. it's always "oh she's in love with Madoka" "oh she's obsessed with Madoka" and yeah these things are true, but I've never once seen or thought "she wants to BE Madoka" and that's a legitimately refreshing take on Homura. If I listened to this song I probably wouldn't have thought of Homura, but you made it work INSANELY well. Thank you for making this the art is beautiful.
@@rachabonespittzI mean Homura literally says she holds love for madoka in rebellion. So I think it's pretty upfront and not a mistake. Granted it's from her pov, and it is obsession, but it's also love. Mania, as the Greeks called it
@@owowhatsblissif anything it’s incredibly twisted. She looked up to her and wanted to be like her which we’ve seen in multiple different timelines. After resetting over and over I can imagine just how warped her mind had become to the point the only way she could stay sane is by saying it was for love
Homura wanting to BE Madoka is such an interesting take because initially Madoka was everything Homura was not. Madoka’s qualities are the qualities Homura values in a person and she likely wants to be just like her. This paired with the ending of Rebellion is a masterpiece. Madoka Magica fans be eating good this year >:)
@@yobob591 that is her wish however some wishes come with hidden desires the biggest example is Sayaka. She may have wished for Kyosuke to be healed but she also wanted him to love her. Sayaka’s whole character arch has to do with her coming to terms with her own selfishness and the reality of being a magical girl. The wishes made in the show does not show their full desire unless you read into it more.
@@cheese__cake which is ironic since in the first season she was at first written to be abnormal and flat with only one goal, until we learn her motivations and see her spiral further/ what caused her descent into despair (like every other character in puella magi) we start to see why she is the way she is in the first place. Homura's arc is similiar and different to the other girls arcs as her arc plays in reverse and follows a different outcome further isolating her as a character and helping you sympathize with her loneliness as she is the only outlier in the quintet. homura = loneliness.
mmm everyone has opinions someone pointed out how hormura held the desire to be the one to save her over Madoka herself subconsciously or not “I’ll go back again and again for her” than again they didn’t specify what wish would save madoka, in all Hormura is a child who knows doesn’t know completely of what’s right nor wrong only that madoka was good hormura is the one who madoka (straight up god) adores Hormura was corrupted in the most damaging way possible, Love it blinds for Hormura it blinded her to not care what was right for Madoka that she was different grew to do what she wanted deeply that she could keep her close and unaware of her very being she only cared that Madoka was HER Madoka she split her soul In simple terms she was a girl who came to find herself to hold her feelings over the wellbeing of Madoka she loved her yes but she undoubtedly in later episodes wanted Madoka dumb and weak she is not the same girl only a shell whose only being is to bring ill will for everything it chose corruption and malice to the existences over what was once her love, Madoka was existence Madoka the core of her being is love and protection with prosperity Hormura was asking Madoka to basically kill herself and her friends become a shell like Hormura that’s my take on the Madoka magika universes lore a viewing of love and it’s depravedness when not careful. K I’m back I heard your points my view was by Hormura splitting madoka apart was her taking her favourite parts shunning the new madoka while the old madoka was kept unaware for a little bit maybe hormura point of view was madoka was miserable taking lives before they turned into witches ruining their wishes while the new madoka was in the void? Did they say where she ended up before reuniting again? Thx for being informative that’s cool though hormura was literally being corrupted to the CORE OF HER SOUL and still had the best interests like it’s stated that their souls are stored in a compacted egg for efficiency and hers looked so unique, kinda flustered I misunderstood such an integrate character Jumped the gun when they were now on opposing sides thought she was actively choosing which she held higher old madoka vs new madoka
@@avrie6668I heavily disagree. "She wanted Madoka dumb and weak" is not her motivations, imo. The one thing she wants for Madoka is for her to be happy. That's it. That's why her ideal world is having Madoka (and all of her friends) live a normal life with all of their loved ones, even if it means she has to suffer for it.
@@avrie6668 not at any time did she did not want madoka to be "dumb and weak". you forget the selflessness of homura's actions and therefore mischaracterized her.
@@humanhoodie1554 exactly. homura is willing to become everything "bad" just for madoka. she isn't happy with what she is or what she's done, and feels like she betrayed madoka. the creator himself said that homura isn't evil, but only trying her best.
I small detail, but the dark, sunken, sleep-deprived eyes really are amazingly used here. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and we can't see the despair any more clear.
THIS IS PERFECT. "I don't want what you have, I want to be YOU." Proceeds to dethrone both Kyubey and Ultimate Madoka to create her own magical girl system.
Man the way she puts her on that pedistal and that final shot 1:29 her eyes with the spaced lines for strain and the red curl in thos lips. She looks a bit entranced. Nice animation. The color was well used and the song choice fits
This is a perfect way of describing how obsessed she was for Madoka. She loved her so much she turned herself into the devil to keep her forever whatever part of madoka she wanted her so much. Seems cute but extremely dangerous.
"Instead of you, it should be me." This reminds me of the ending of Rebellion where Madoka is the transfer student. There are so many parallels. This entire animation gives me chills "That the people would see me too as a poet and not just the muse" is also accurate in my opinion, almost as if she wants to be everything Madoka is. "I don't want what you have I want to be you." This again brings me back to the clip where Madoka is the one transferring in. This time, Homura is the one who is well liked and well versed. Can't wait for Movie 4!
THIS VIDEO IS SO HEARTBREAKING... it's sooo good and rlly aligns with how i understood how in my mind homura "became the devil" and conquered death at the end of rebellion... how i like to read it is that the "karmic fate" tied to madoka also applied to homura because of how many times she had ran through all those timelines and remembered it all, but kyubey or anyone else had no way of being aware of it because she made her wish before the timeline loop started and magical girls can't make second wishes. so at the edge of death she overcomes the rules of magical girls through sheer karmic fate, creating her own wish and rewriting the universe, like a pendulum swinging ^ ^ becoming like madoka
GOD THIS IS SO GOOD GGRGRR. The idea of homura being so hell bent on saving madoka because she needs her desperately and madoka being just the human embodiment of good, makes me think that maybe part of the reason homura is so determined is that by saving her maybe that would prove her to be good as well in a way. If she could save good would that also make her good? Brutus works so well with this, this is awesome, i'm eating this
Love love LOVE this interpretation!! Homura is such a fascinating psychological case study and i really love the implications of her wanting to be Madoka vs her being in love with Madoka. This just opens up more aspects of her personality and motives to explore!!! It really suits her on going personal narrative of self-hatred and obsessive tendencies. I love it!!! Bravo!!!!!!!!!
this is amazing!!! im a fan of Madoka, and I adore seeing videos like this!! also making this many drawings probably took forever even if it isn’t an animation 😭
googling how to inject a video into my veins right now, this is such a good animatic and suits the story of Rebellion so well, I adore it!! your art style is wonderful and suits the anime so much!
This is absolutely AMAZING!! What a refreshing take on Homura, this is so interesting. What If this is how she truly feels towards madoka and has confused her feelings for love? I love this, makes me even more hyped for the final movie!
Oh god. Oh dear lord god. I feel like I have been graced by the divine light. This. Yes, THISSS!!! Not only I have to mention, yes, a Madoka Magica animation!!!! But this interpretation of Homura?? Downright perfect. A little while ago, I wrote an analysis about it on my Tumblr blog - about idolization in Homura and Madoka's relationship. Here’s a snippet of it: “[...] But Homura's idolatrism of Madoka starts on the first timeline, more specifically, when she gets saved by her from a Witch. There, her initial picture of Madoka drastically changes - the sweet and kind girl she met at school to this (sweet and kind) fighting heroine who saved her life. I could say it's kind of a pipeline: *Madoka wants to be just like Mami. Homura wants to be just like Madoka.* All those mental pictures were created by admiration and idolatry. And by idolatry, comes expectations.” Correct, Homura does wish to be just like Madoka. She's strong, kind, sociable and someone very pleasant to be around. She is everything Homura believes she isn't.
I got Chills! I'm so glad to see Madoka Magica animation in 2024! It's always been a series near and dear to me. You've made such a beautiful music video. It's so perfect 💖💖💖
Been a big fan of madoka magica for a few years now and I'm so happy to find recent stuff for it :D The juxtaposition of the detailed lips compared to the rest of the unrendered drawing in the last frame was pretty eerie to me by the way, great job !!
Oh this is absolutely stunning - I immediately clicked on it when I saw it in my recommended because I love PMMM and I love Butress and now I love your art
I love this take on homura!! I think it is true she does love and want to protect madoka, but it is very selfish. When she finds out kyubey is trying to control madoka, she flips out. Yet, in the end of rebellion, that’s exactly what homura does too. Love isn’t enough for homura, or the movie rebellion wouldn’t have existed. She needs to take madokas place so madoka can live homura’s versio of the best life, not the life madoka picks her for herself.
I never thought of homura wanting to be madoka, but it's a great interpretation and it makes sense. Madoka is everything madoka isn't after all. I've always thought of homura being obsessed with madoka, homura loving madoka, but I never thought of homura wanting to BE her. Great vid!!
A Madoka Magica Animation on 2024😭 Thank you, I love this! The music was unsettling which kinda fits / captures Madoka Magika^^ You did a splendid job:D
I think it’s understandable what Homura loves Madoka because she wants to BE Madoka. It’s kind of love what can grow into obsession, because you keep idolizing someone you love, what much what it drives you insane. Homura literally made Madoka into a god, while trying to save her. Madoka becomes a concept, a concept of saving circles what Homura was obsessed over. She wanted to feel herself someone meaningful, her whole life she was nothing, something what breaths for no reason and has no purpose of existence, and the scene of Homura trying to kill herself Maodka literally comes to save her. Madoka never was a god, she was just a girl, but Homura with her actions idolizing her not only saw more and more of Madoka in a light of insecure shy new girl, but made out of her a god literally tiding hundreds of universes on Madoka. Man I love this anime.
I don’t even watch madoka magica, or even anime. I clicked this thinking it would be a cringy edit, but this animation sent actual shivers down my spine
There's so much that I love about this animation, the eyes, the faces, the transitions, even the fact the cinematic black bars wobble slightly. I'm really looking forward to any future content you make.
I am very passionate about Homura’s character, and she gets misinterpreted a LOT. But OH MY GOD. This captures her essence so well!!! I’ve never thought of the possibility that Homura wanted to BE Madoka so badly, but it fits perfectly!! This whole thing is an absolute masterpiece and a very interesting take on Homura’s complicated character!!
This is my fourth time coming back to this video. I can't get over how amazing this animation and editing is. The beginning sweet scene and music turning to Brutus was chef kiss. The Brutus chant and animation matched too good. ❤❤
