1:43 - She mistakenly said she was 6 1/2 when her mother died. Actually, she was 5, having been born 8/16/58 & lost her mom on 12/1/63. My goodness, how devastating that must’ve been for Madonna & her siblings. Actually some were so young, they might have no memory of her. Her mother & namesake, Madonna Ciccone (née Fortin), was born 7/11/33. It's so sad that the young mother of 6 passed away at only 30 years old. But it's great that her 1st-born daughter excelled in school & eventually made a massive success of herself.
She was such a young woman here. You hear it in her approach to life and answers. Aware of herself. But hasnt quite had the wisdom to know what life really is yet.
I don’t think Jane Pauley was evil or envious. It’s just a specific style of interviewing she’s adopted. Probing and serious, but also seemingly genuinely interested. You have to keep in mind this was the 80s. Reagan was president. The “moral majority” was on the rise. It was a very conservative era, EXCEPT for our pop stars who were pushing social and creative boundaries. A mainstream broadcast TV morning show host was bound to interview someone like Madonna this way.
