Madonna had always been an advocate for lgbt rights. Yeah she certainly knew the impact the kiss would have, but I think she was pretending to be oblivious and playing it down to make a statement that it shouldn't be seen as abnormal for two girls to kiss. She's a genius and iconic. ❤

They died of AIDS which was a scourge in the gay community those years. She genuinely supported the LGBT rights because she knew in first person the disadvantages and the issues of being gay at that time. Most importantly she supported and promoted gay love when it was uncool and it wasnt for attention or selling more records. If anything it didn't pay off, the album in which she channelled this theme (songs: In This Time and " Whys If So Hard) was boycotted and sold poor copies compared with her standards.. She's a pioneer.

@@reng935 2003 was already well into the period where the global youth had been taught to immediately dismiss any recording artist who put out their first album or single before they hit puberty. Madonna was still out selling most younger artists, but that was because of her massive fanbase built up over the previous 20 years. Cut to 2021 and even my niece and nephew would rather never listen to music again than pay attention to any older act.

Retrospectively I do feel the same fucking way because that was disgusting how they poorly treated her during that time like she was a low grade singer! Britney took advantage of it, but now she is nothing but the shadow of her past glory and Christina still makes strong statements in music. As an Xtina fan I was so happy that she participated to this performance. I was excited to see her with the others, this is an iconic moment in music history and she was part of that. Plus she's always been very provocative and even raunchy (Dirrty? Not Myself Tonight?). Bottom line, people who are snobby towards this performance aren't real fans of Xtina. It seems like you don't even know her.
@@olivias9432 Sorry but that doesn't make much sense. The fact alone that she was asked to perform means that there was no sign of jealousy or rivalry. Plus, she was allowed to sing the chorus of "Like A Virgin" and her voice was loud and clear. That was her moment. When they were dancing together they were harmonizing, that wasn't a "vocal show-off". Plus, there are two versions of the performance, you can hear her very clearly while she was harmonizing with the others in one of the two versions.
