The most magnificent reinvention of Madonna. A transformation that lifted all of us. A Rainbow High! Madonna was Evita. The performances are the stand out. I watched the movie in the theater 5 times when it opened.
Evita is Madonna's best film by far in her career. She nailed it. I remember being so mad when she did not receive an Oscar nomination. In my opinion she should have won the Oscar! I was also irritated at M when she went ahead and performed on the Oscars after she was snubbed. I wanted M to release a statement and basically tell Hollywood to F themselves. Love Evita! It changed her trajectory of her career in my opinion.
At last! I had to wait a whole year for this, but thanks for doing it and so well. One suggestion: I admire the forward planning but there's nothing to stop you covering Evita this year last year and next year because what's said isn't going to be the same. Three takes on the same subject. You can't talk too much about Madonna 🤪
Young Eva reminds me of Lourdes. The mistress is Andrea Corr from The Corrs, they had huge hits in the 90’s with “Runaway” & “Forgiven not Forgotten”. Jimmy Nail had a huge hit with a song called “Ain’t no doubt”. Billy Piper has a cameo right before Juan meets Eva at the charity ball. He signs her booklet. Billie Piper had big hits in the 90’s with “Day & Night” & “Honey to the bee”. The film is an operetta, so it has its realism charms like Jesus Christ Superstar which is very similar.. Hosanna & A new Argentina are like sister songs. In the film he arrives on Palm Sunday with the crowds, in Evita she’s rounding up the voters etc. Being filmed like a straight drama was the risk… similar to JCS. If you mute Evita it looks like you’re watching a movie … most definitely not a musical, that’s why there were no big, staged group choreography numbers. Some things that annoy me about the film: The DCFMA balcony scene .. it cuts away on the first chorus. Her hair in the waltz. It clearly comes out of place and strands fall out, and they didn’t fix it for continuation purposes. You must love me.. needed to be sung from her in the hospital bed right after she’s told she was dying. Would’ve been a poignant scene (and instant Oscar nomination ) if they recorded in real time .. being the new song and all.. it would’ve elevated the emotion to a whole new level. Using it as a montage background music video like scene lost its full potential for me. Her death scene. That god damn candle glow / shine on her fake tooth! It looked like dita was dying not Eva! And why cut away from her death shot.. we needed a death face. Then her mum or Juan could cover her face with the sheet… THEN cut away to the candles being blown out from the window. Would’ve been more impactful! But hey.. that’s just my 2 cents … Oh and a little prosthetic on her nose to give her a little more of a shnoz would’ve been a welcomed touch ( and maybe an Oscar nomination… Nicole Kidman .. helllooooo 😅😅)
Hello from LA I used to live in NYC :) ., anyway never "Loved " Bway shows / Musicals not a big fan of that ganra my favorite Musical is Funny girl. and of course Madonna 's Evita IMO Madonna is more Pop music and she is Very good at it ,, Pop-Dance-Electronic even little Rock..It's not out of nowhere calling her Queen of Pop music because her Records most of the time are very very good they are brilliant pop tunes and never cheesy & so as are albums some are mind-blowing (last few years M going towards HipHop wannabe) kinda Scares me.😥, . Back to the Topic Evita :) -Madonna did her best and of course I bought it & I enjoyed it.., , will I listen to it a lot Not really ., but I 'll Remember.
I kinda think that’s the point of the movie/musical. It’s ambiguous whether she’s a heroine or a villain. That’s how Argentinians still view her… as a saint or a sinner. She’s a divisive character. Yes, she did some good for women’s rights, helped the poor a little, screwed over the rich (which is not at all what MAGA is about, so it’s not an exact parallel) but there was also corruption, violence to opposition, greed and grasping for power and influence. For those she ‘helped’ she was their savior… for those she and Peron harmed, she was a witch. I think they had to show those two sides and reactions to her character. We can sympathize with a poor girl who had nothing but ambition and sex appeal to climb her way to the top, facing sexism, snobbery and contempt, but we also see her behaving just as badly to her critics and opponents once she has the power to get revenge.
Despite the Vanity Fair diaries there was not much "behind the scenes" on Evita! I am pretty sure there is so much we don't know about the behind the scenes of that era. As much as I don't want Madonna to write a book about her life or make a movie about it, I hope she one days will dish about what really happened behind the scenes. Making a movie about your own life seems very silly and a narcissistic move!
The movie doesn't take a stance because Eva Peron is a highly divisive figure in Argentina itself. Some people still call her Santa Evita while others think she was a demon from hell. So I don't know why you'd discuss the sociopolitical aspect of this movie without doing the bare, minimum research about it - but still feel so strongly, lol
@@mlvcpodcast And that's you need to know things about the historical figure to understand the movie better. Everybody was confused why the movie was sending mixed messages - "why was she presented in a good light but Che is criticizing her?" Because her legacy is split down the middle and the movie does a great thing by presenting both sides
@@alexdaniel1045 if a movie about someone can't make things clear, then it's not a great movie. you should be able to understand everything about the story from simply watching the film. If a random viewer isn't able to grasp a viewpoint, then it's not been a successful storytelling IMO
Fun fact : the girl Madonna pulls out of the bed in the movie is actually Andrea Corr, the lead singer of hugely successful Irish band The Corrs. 🥰 you probably haven’t heard of them but there were huge everywhere except the States . This was a wonderful episode btw 🩷🩷🩷
