Thanks so much for posting this video. I visited Madrid in 1990, we had 2 nights there. Those CAF 300 (I think) were the only good thing about the place. As a Brit, i found the half glazed windows and unglazed clerestory roofs incredible. I also recall that there was holes in the seat bases, through which you could see wheels etc. The sounds of them was incredible.

@@Saltamontesin Thank you very much for your kind words. I’m pleased that this video has brought back happy memories for you. Certainly the great sounds made by the older trains are something I appreciated so very much also.

Such a great video! Motor sounds remind me Melbourne's Comengs a lot. Madrid Metro is one of my top 5 in the world, good to see how it looked back in the 80s.

Probably they sound much closer to a Tait as both trains were quite loud.

1:17 At the time, there were above ground segments to what are now lines 5 and 10 (at the time this was shot, all of it was line 10)

Oh, what a great metro history nugget! Madrid Metro is lovely and very interesting. It's very practical, and it feels so much like a brother or cousin of Paris Metro to me that I feel like home every time I ride it. The vaulted stations, the density of stops, even the smells in the 90's, probably due to the vegetable oil they used on some older rolling stock, it all feels very familiar. Plus, the driving motors sound reminds me of the venerable MF67 of Paris Metro and MS61 of the RER. Madrid Metro has grown a lot in the late 90's early 2000's if I recall correctly. A great example of well executed, perfectly cost controlled infrastructure development. They were very successful in cutting off unnecessary cost-inflating middlemen and delivered great infrastructure for a low cost. Brilliant! Back home and well, I hope?

Thanks for you own reminiscences of the Madrid Metro. I’m sure it has a lot of similarities with Paris. Home and slowly recovering thanks.

@@tressteleg1 Done, with what I couldn't include last time like the videos about the trams that I mentioned, T9 and T10, and about the new gondola line.

Tractions motors sound like The Red Rattlers in Sydney. Love it

Well the compressors are very much Melbourne Tait and the motors are a bit between Sydney and Melbourne. If you want to make some comparisons, check some of these but preferably with good headphones or speakers. "Sounds Only" videos ru-vid.com/group/PLLtOIHp49XNAz2Tc2I0PZZzsUYriF7zaX

I was on that station the other day 0:50 Walls are blue now, the labels (where name of station is written and all that) have not changed at all What i did not expect is trains being shorter... 🤔

It is surprising that some things change over all those years, but other things remain the same. From my side of the world, I could not even guess why the trains are now shorter. But here, public transport usage has gone down a fair bit in some cities because since Covid, a lot of people still work from home at least a few days each week. Maybe Madrid is the same…
