Totally agree with your observations! I, too, wanted more about his creative process and further info on who he was to let those who don’t know that much about him learn more so that they know who he was.

Genuinely that's the job of any biopic but so many seem to miss that basic threshold it's so frustrating

@@TheMovieApprenticeI think you may be missing the point. Maestro isn’t a biopic and was never meant to be. Cooper has even admitted that he had no interest in making a biopic. This wasn’t a film about Bernstein’s life. It was a movie about marriage through the lense of Leonard Bernstein’s experience. It’s true that Carey Mulligan had an incredible performance in this film, and I would agree she outshone Cooper’s acting. But I think many are overlooking Cooper’s incredible direction of this film.

@@zachtrent I'm curious to know where exactly Cooper stated that Maestro wasn't intended to be a biopic? I find it ironic that you believe this film titled "Maestro" isn't about the life of Bernstein...who's life is it about? What I will say is that the title itself is misleading, as one would assume that the focus is about Leonard Bernstein's career, but what we find is a movie primarily about 'Lenny & Felicia's' relationship...possibly a more appropriate title should have simply been: LENNY & FELICIA!

Another great review! I definitely am in a similiar boat overall. I just felt Cooper didnt really know what story he was telling. Great moments, not a great film

Took the words out of my mouth like scenes of the year? Absolutely. Good sauce doesn't cover up a mediocre meal though

I have been reading a lot about oscars etc these last few days and that Cooper's name was suddenly in the mix because of Maestro's timely release. Nothing against Cooper. I'm delighted the former student of the Actors' Workshop now lives his dream, but Maestro is a glorified TV movie. It's good, but it's no more captivating that the recent mini series based on the life of Archie Leech aka Cary Grant, for example. Maestro suffers because it tries to be oscar 'bait'. It's far too self concious as a result. Come the spring, I don't see anyone other than Cillian Murphy collecting the best actor award. Might I add, in defence of Cooper, he should have had more praise for his role in Licorice Pizza. He was a scream playing the unhinged Jon Peters. I was in stiches as he rants to his assistant, 'no gas-o in the goddamn car-o Steve-o!'.

Bradley Cooper is like, the answer to the question "what jf Tommy Wiseau could act?"

Truth is, no one is really interested in seeing a Leonard Bernstein biopic.

You might be right to be honest, I basically went in because I loved Bradley Cooper's first film so wanted to see his follow up

Nothing interesting about this movie. All the effort was put into making it look pretty, but no other aspects. I have no idea why there needs to be a movie about this guy.
