What did you think of Maestro?

I am in agreement with Thomas on this one. Maestro is my favorite film of the year. Thought Cooper was great and Mulligan was INCREDIBLE. I think the film's unorthodox structure really works to its benefit. It could be retitled Scenes From A Lavender Marriage.

I thought the film was beautifully shot but what they chose to use and leave out from his life was a bit puzzling to me.

A Star is Born is a far superior film. It didn’t feel as desperately Oscar-baity and overt like Maestro. 🍿

What a mess? All the great cinematography and performances here couldn’t compensate for the horrendous script. This shouldn’t be nominated for best picture.

I hoping All of Us Strangers or Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. get nominated over Maestro out of nowhere.

It's beautifully filmed! The performances by Cooper & Mulligan are amazing. That being said there was something missing for me... I could elaborate, but the post would be absurdly long, so I'll cut to the chase: ultimately in the end I felt unmoved.

There is no way Oppenheimer gets a costume nomination i know Irishman and Darkest Hour happen but they were well Known costume designers and Oppenheimer is not I think that is too much for that film to get

A biopic can be different from a literal biography, and I don’t think Cooper meant to film the latter. Maestro is a very good movie although it doesn’t achieve the perfection of (for example) Tar.

For me, Bradley did a great job with the direction (beautiful cinematography), but his performance itself felt too much like a performance lol! Carey's acting felt far more natural to me. I believed her, thoroughly. However, when I saw Bradley, I had challenges connecting with his character because the performance too often felt over-the-top.

I totally disagree with the blond commentator (Trevor?) about Bradley Cooper's performance in "Maestro." In my opinion Cooper's performance was spot-on Leonard Bernstein. It's a terrific movie!

Of course, Cooper used a lot of wide shots, it's the only way to fit in the elephant in the room that everyone ignores. Lol It's a classic straight washing film that fails to make either main character feel human. Bernstein is an interesting protagonist, but Cooper never delves past surface level. He worked way too hard to produce such a shallow film. All sound and fury signifying nothing.

Really good movie with the best makeup Which I think is front-runner to win that category at the Oscars

The only problem I had with this movie, was the choice to depict the central conflict being his career and not his sexuality. While the wife WAS aware of his sexuality and was understanding of it…I feel like to pretend it was his career that’s responsible for pulling him away from her, was a weird choice. But more than that it felt like that sexuality the he was struggling to reconcile was hinted at. It just seemed like the movie was written in 2nd Person , as opposed to Leonard’s perspective.

Maestro is legit garbage. Overly written, pretentious, boring, and no real emotion from Bradley Cooper's overacted performance. The script is genuinely terrible with nothing to say about Leonard Bernstein as a man, his career, his music, and barely says anything about their marriage. The nose makeup is horrendous and unnecessary as Bradley Cooper normally looks closer to Leonard Bernstein naturally. Disrespectful to Leonard Bernstein as Cooper just makes Bernstein come across as an obnoxious theater kid. I hope The Academy nominates Barry Keoghan or Andrew Scott over Bradley Cooper. Carey Mulligan is amazing and dog walks Cooper in his own movie. Costumes and cinematography were nice.

It's a masterpiece, especially compared to overrated films like Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, and Barbie.

How is possible that neither of you can pronounce the last name of the subject of this film?! His name is Leonard BernSTINE NOT BernSTEEN! OK, perhaps neither of you are Broadway or classical music fans.. BUT, you both watched the movie where you would have heard the correct pronunciation of his name several times, at least. Have a little respect!

Horrible writing. Confusing Directing. Over-the-top acting. A laughable mess that deserves to be replaced in the awards discussion by far more deserving films

Depends on what merit are you two reviewing it? Personal taste like u dress eat do your hair etc? Or a particular expertise to be critics or judge! For sure it’s six years of dedication to deliver the work! What does it mean it’s maximalist? Some people get recognition trying to easily undermine great people and great jobs Do you produce anything or know how to do better? 😊
