As an Australian when I first saw Gus's reaction to his fathers speech, I was moved to tears for him sharing his emotions so honestly. Like Anne Coulter, I had no idea of his background. After becoming aware of his "special powers", I understood why his impact was so powerful as to move me to tears. What a proud moment for the family and all the USA and world to witness. Anne Coulter (and other Replublicans) saw the same images we all did - and I cannot understand how they could post their now deleted "basement dweller" comments; what sad dark souls they must have?

I worked for President Carter in 2012-13, and I heard him speak as a parent and not a former President about how difficult it was for Mrs. Carter and him to navigate the very, very few newspaper articles that shone a somewhat negative light on his daughter, Amy. Holy Crap - if my father was up on stage in front of thousands of people cheering and chanting his name, I'd be bawling my eyes out - and I'm a medical professional and 45 years old! The entire experience is overwhelming - I was crying just watching it on TV - can you imaging being there amidst all that energy?! What is wrong with Repugs? I'm a conservative Evangelical Christian who served for ~21 years in high school youth ministry, with 14+ of those years being full time, and I'm also a husband and father. I take issue with one thing Ben said early on. I don't like that he immediately went to the "it's important to note he has special needs" space. I agree that it's worse because he is not an adult and that he has special needs. However, putting too much focus on those facts may cause folks to miss a MUCH more important point here: even if he were 18 and technically an adult, even if he didn't have special needs, if your son is moved to tears when you stand in front of a crowd and declare that your wife and kids are your whole world, you are WINNING as a husband and father. Over the years of conversations with and observations of hundreds (maybe thousands?) of males in their mid/late teens, I will say unequivocally that the ones with the kind of relationship with their dad that would cause them to react thusly are the ones who are FAR more likely to go on to be among the better husbands, fathers, and community members in our society.

Im autistic and have ADHD as well as having been a ward of the state for most of my childhood and man, the idea of not being emotionally repressed at that age with these challanges goes to show how supportive and loving that family is. I bawled my eyes out while watching the young man's response to his dad. It melted my heart. I absolutely loved it. I hadn't even heard that he was special needs until later. It shouldn't even matter. These people who had a single world to say, regardless of a disability, are just vile creeps. The air at the DNC was positively electric. Many people had an emotional response. We've already all heard Governor Walz impressive story, and how much he loves children, especially his own. I'm happy those beautiful traits passed to his son. I hope he doesn't know about any negativity, but if so, I hope he sees that there are so many more of us than these dirtbags, and we felt blessed to have been able to share this moment with him.

Someone said that these magas never had a real loving childhood and that made alot of sense to me. Eric and Jr probably never saw their dad growing up or spent any time with him. There was probably no love towards these folks from their parents growing up and that's why they don't understand it.
