When I'm feeling depressed about the state of the world, I listen to Maggot Brain and I'm revived by the understanding that humans also create MASTERPIECES. Thank you.
I listened to this when my father was killed 1975 and I'm listening to maggot brain again my mother died on 5/2019 I'm greiving listening to the funk..
those goes by will never come back. bridge them to eternal peace with your prayers to the lord... i like the song too. even john frusciante make a song a bit like this titled before the beginning.. peace to you brother.
We truly understand my brother because a real funkateer like yourself, NEVER FAKES THE FUNK! The funk is for all phases of life. You know with all the antics going on one might forget that George had some of the baddest cats playing with him!!!
A masterpiece! Eddie Hazel and Mike Hampton NEVER got the recognition they deserved. I grew up listening to Parliament/Funkadelic. I love this song as well as Cosmic Slop. Play on🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Lol I recently got back into listening to this on repeat when someone said Slash was one of their favorite guitarists 🙄. To each their own but to me it’s a crime Rolling Stones ranked Slash above Eddie Hazel. I told that person to check out this song - they hadn’t heard it before.
Nope not Zappa, check this out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OYDSGDsOYjo.html and this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NO0kS2aJQog.html and this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lLhdS-8-YS8.html explore Roy Buchanan before you overstate greatness!
There must be something wrong with me or I've been hiding under a rock my entire life. I just turned 37 years old love rock and roll and this is the first time I've ever heard this song and I absolutely love it. Matter fact I can't stop putting the song on repeat. Seriously I must have been sheltered or something I have no idea how I have never ever heard of this song but I'm so grateful I've got turned on to it.
Not sure if you heard of the worlds greatest unknown guitarist, but here ya go...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NO0kS2aJQog.html and take a lil bit of this while you are at it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OYDSGDsOYjo.html enjoy!
Then you must have never been listening to that good old Psychadelic Funk, Blues, R&B, Soul music produced by Black people. Rock & Roll's roots were born there. Glad you found the TRUTH lol. Check out Ernie Isley of the Isley Bros. Hendrix briefly played with them in the 60s.
Not sure of your race and perhaps that should not matter but it does. The "whites" claimed Rock and Roll as theirs just like they try to and claim everything else as their invention. Do some research!!!! Perhaps start with Muddy Waters. That will lead you in many directions to the truth.
@@gwenrenee8641 Sister Rosetta Tharpe invented Rock N Roll (but SHE NEVER call it that though everyone kept screaming at her that she changed America with her Gospel Music "electric fiddlin/diddlin" (her words)), Muddy and the rest have admitted it. Other Baptist church took up her practice of bringing electric guitars into the chorus causing church goers to celebrate to the Lord in the pews like never before with the "spirit" it created. Sometimes clean tone, most time Heavy distortion (aka Heavy Metal sound). Elvis Presley (and 2 other white friends) secretly attended one of those services and got to moving like he never had before, thus started playing guitar and "grinding", a move he saw at that very church. Now a brother named Charlie Christian "Something" or another from Texas played the first electric guitar invented by Gibson created the finger tapping now known by Eddie Van Halen. Rosetta played a clean tone most times, while Charlie would put heavy distortion into his chops. A SISTA INVENTED ROCK N ROLL but she only (rumored) called it that on her death bed with a "I guess I did". White people always trying to steal stuff, change history and lie lie lie on Blacks.
I think this must be the music that plays as your life stretches out before you. So many years... highs and lows... lessons learned and taught... women come and gone... Soulmates, broken hearts... 100 years and then some. And now it all makes sense as you fly above it all... with your new Wings. ❤
I was fortunate enough to be at his concert in 1972 uh 72 at the fair park Coliseum And hear this song being played The group was called Parliament maggot brain I never forget it
I remember jamming with a group of friends and at a point it was my turn to lead off the next jam (I was on bass), so I tell one of the guitarists to play this. He didn't know it, I gave him the basic progression)... he looks at me (a bit disappointed in the simplicity) and says 'that's it?' I look at him with a smile and said 'yeah'. A couple of minutes later everyone in the room 'got it' and it was one of the most memorable moments i've ever had jamming. RIP Mr. Hazel
Uttley incredible how you can take something so simple, four chords and basically nothing more than an Em scale and turn it into this!. Goes to show music doesn't have to be overly complicated or that you need to know music theory to degree level to create brilliant works.
@@BurnleyNuts when we say "your child" we're talking about you, your younger parts. They're all younger, your younger parts, fragmented, some want to drink, some want to lead, and, if you can integrate them into you, your loving parent, then they are heard and seen, no longer do you necessarily need to be lead around by them, their avoidance, their drug use, you acknowledge their rage and thank them for protecting you when they were young. Now, you lead, you hold them, with love, no judgment. They come home, you are whole, like never before. I think maybe, that's what he might have said, in one line.
Thank you 4 preserving and sharing this all time favorite The Maggot Brain... Much respect to Michael Hampton, Lige Curry, Rickey Rouse, Garrett Shider, Danny Bedrosian, Jerome Rodgers, Benzel Cowan, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic for still touring the World. Fly on.
song written by eddie hazel.. inspired by george clinton.. told eddie to imagine his mother had passed away...... and that gave us this gift of genius!!!
I discovered the song in 2018, then stopped listening to it for the most part. In 2020, my mom died, and that was quite a difficult thing to deal with. One of the ways I coped was by walking around the base at night listening to Maggot Brain on repeat. Didn’t really know why it helped, but it did. In 2022, I learned that George Clinton said “play like your mama just died,” and I was blown away. Work of genius.
George Clinton told Eddie Hazel to "play guitar like your mama just died." The resulting song was Maggot Brain, recorded in one take for the 1971 album of the same name.
This is on my smoke playlist, and that’s saying a lot. In fact it’s the first and last song. I get WEAK starting at around 7 minutes and I swear it feels like my heart is beating out of my chest. I imagine being reunited with everyone I’ve lost along this journey. Damn, imagine that Mr.Hazel. Fly High Guitar Legend 🎸
Michael killed this shit!!!! I was there. Thanks to his boy,Raider Rob for getting him to take a pic with me out back after the show. Can't wait until they come FUNK Vegas.
I'm inside a bubble. Watching and looking how sad this world of people treat each other. It's make me so sad. But I sit and pray for a little light of happiness will shine on us all
Amazing performance.. Love the huge overdrive guitar.. The scene looks just like my big family. All messed up in the morning, but soon everything falls into it's place and makes the day just great :-) This recording is saved in my will to be played on my funeral amongst billy braggs "Way Over Yonder in a Minor Key".
michael hampton and the drummer at the end....lol they were messing with each other by extending the outro. lol the drummer extended it, then michael kept extending it. that's why they're grinning at each other lol this was a great performance
So many try but will never come close to the really guitars players /the maim man Eddie Hazel /Mike Hampton are never can be compared or imitated. They are the originals. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊🔊🎶🎶🎶🙏🏼🙏🏼
I used to think I was pretty familiar with Funkadelic, and how these George Clinton shows went as I've attended a few back in the mid-2000's and he was most definitely not playing guitar solos. I didn't even know George played, ESPECIALLY the Maggot Brain solo! Still prefer to see Eddie play it but damn this was a pleasant surprise, no idea how I've never seen this before.
I think Mike started playing Maggot Brain after Eddie passed away. I saw them in concert many many times in the late 70’s, and grew up listening to them because of my older brothers. My brother has the original vinyl. I still love this song, makes me have chills. Btw this is Michael Hampton playing not George. I saw Mike play this song many times. To my knowledge George never played an instrument. Apologies if I read your comment wrong.
@@michellemorgan9075Mike been playing maggit brain live since 74 when he joined the funk mob Eddie was sent to jail and Mike been rocking it ever since
Mike Hampton got the job with Funkadelic when he was a Kid …he played this song to get it …note for note like Eddie ..then George named him Kidd Funkadelic
I saw Michael Hampton, Eddie, Hazel and Gabby Shotter all played this together in 1979. Did I know exactly what I was looking at? No but I knew it was something.
I can't count the number of times I've put on this lp twist one lite it up then hit the switch on the turntable and just sit back and just chill for the next 30min afterward just be feeling good about everything. Thank you Eddie for giving us this masterpiece
I had a shopping news route in Brooklyn Michigan. I seen somebody getting their mail and I yelled hey. ...he looked exactly like George Clinton. I also seen him ar local IGA grocery store there...and it was him.
I used to listen to this when it first came out on LSD..I'd stack up the albums and let them play...I wore out the album withe with young lady on cover if I remember right.
Michael Hampton with the western leather Bonanza black Cowboy vest on for the funk of it, now that's shooting for the stars in Space 🌌 👽☠️🛸🎸😎🤩🎸🤿🔑🔒🎺🥁🎷🆒🎹🩺🥽🚦📢💣

I first heard Maggot Brain in about 1978 at the Paliament concert, Hammersmith, read and weep cost entry ticket £8. Which one is Hazell , which is Hampton and where is George
Saw them around 1970 and they became a favorite of mine . Lost respect for George when I found out how he treated his band mates . They self destructed .
