Around my area, on Wikipedia's page about Shrewsbury station there's plans to build a Parkway station there (Shrewsbury Parkway I'd presume), putting the total to 2,568 if both Worcestershire and Shrewsbury parkway open

it probably won't happen, knowing Shropshire council. I wish there was a park and ride station at meole brace to serve the shresbury town football ground and retail park. When the new football ground was built a few years ago, they should've built a new station. The line goes right next to it. All thats needed is a platform. There's already parking.

@@simontay4851 - Funny how these things work out: Wigan has 2 stations (built by different companies) within 100m of each other. One of the Leigh lines was turned into a guided busway (transport much used in Cambridge) with routes called V1 and V2. Sadly they don't "rocket" when it comes to the crowded roads bits rather than the segregated bits on old railway. But it is successful.

​@@simontay4851 Its quite large i'd say, around 50,000 people in the last census(2011) Most of the 5 stations were built primarly for the local industries of Cotton spinning, cable manufacturing, and the king of them all, Coal mining. They just happened to serve passengers too! As @Geoff Abell said, one of the lines, known as the Tyldesley Loop line which contained the main Leigh station, was turned into a "Guided busway" recently to improve links with Manchester. Its where regular buses, albeit with special guidewheels attached, run on a segregated concrete track, along the line of the old railway. After all the expense and effort, it manages to be around 5 to 10 mins quicker then the regular bus into Manchester , on a good day atleast! However it has increased bus ridership, and even decreased car ridership by a small amount, which is always good. The sadest thing in my mind is that the oldest line which ran through Leigh was the Bolton & Leigh railway, Which opened in 1828 and was engineered by no less then George Stephenson himself. It technically opened two years before the Liverpool to Manchester line, however that was only for freight, passenger services started just after the L&M opened. Now the line is occupied by the Atherleigh bypass road. There is a small plaque dedicated to the Bypass road but nothing to the historic railway that was there before it!

There is one opening in Reading soon (couple of years) near the football statiam, so that is one of the hundred.

@@andrewjameson5918 There's also going to be whatever stations they open between Bletchley and Oxford/Aylesbury when that route is returned to passenger service, but this still leaves scope for most of the hundred to be open to interpretation.
