Magic Book Review - You Are All Terrible by Harrison Greenbaum 

Great review David. I got this book at Magifest from Tannen and it might have been the best thing purchased that weekend. I read it, no devoured it. Laughed out loud and learned a thing or two. Harrison is an incredible talent.

A GREAT book! A GREAT read! GREAT advise. And a GREAT personal friend. Harrison, IMHO, is the funniest comedy magician on the planet!!!!!

The Criss Angel Venn Diagram killed me. 😂 Also whenever my magi friend come over I tell them that there’s a ninth volume of Tarbell as I point to my shelf. 😁

I trust your judgment, so I will give it a read. Humor is serious business. Not for faint of heart. As always thank for your insights. Wise purchases.

Oh I know. Sounds like this guy has been following me around. I have a couple of original routines but for the most part I do classics. Like you, I do it for the love of sharing magic. I have always said John Carney’s Mr Mysto was based on me.

You can get it elsewhere now. I picked it up at the Winter Carnival of Magic. I was warned that it had some rough language. That’s a understatement. I learned things from it but it was hard to read because of the language.

Maybe you said it and I just missed it, but did the book actually inspire you to improve your material in a concrete way? Or did you close the cover, say to yourself, "Yeah, I should try to be more original", and then went to make yourself a sandwich and watch a movie?

I don't think Harrison is addressing the right problem "Be more original" We've heard that since the 80s. The problem is our teachers. Ammar, Close, McBride, Burger and slightly Harris (Harris gets a pass for his creativity) but these guys gave birth to the Lazy magician. Boring ,shallow at times embarrassing delivery and NO misdirection. How can you be a magician without misdirection????? Its just "Bs, bs, bs, bs, EFFECT bs, bs, bs, EFFECT" David Blain is the big celebrity product of this lost and shallow community from the 80s. David Blain is our Donald Trump of magicians, the standards in our community are what made him. What we need is writers but most importantly, students of misdirection. Your not chasing "the next great effect" your chasing moments when misdirection truly works. RELY THINK ABOUT THAT LAST SENTENCE. Our "Teachers" growing up were not magicians. They were businessmen.
