I just bought the Apprenticeship & a couple of the books I didn't have, so now I have it all. :) Thanks, guys! I can't wait to see how your song-writing process unfolds, end-to-end.
WOW!!! Welcome to the family, shitmandood, we are over the moon happy and grateful to have you on our apprenticeship! We'll send you an invite later today for our private Network, which is an inspiring and encouraging social media platform for hanging out with all your fellow apprentices, sharing your works-in-progress, asking theory questions, and maybe even meeting someone to collaborate with. We'd absolutely love to see you in our network, so please jump on in when you get our invite later. Thanks BIG time once again, and when you join the network, please introduce yourself and let us know that it's shitmandood, as that's the only name we currently know you by. Anyhoo, welcome once again, we're so stoked you joined our apprenticeship, and we'll see you inside! Ray :)
Having a day with no actual actions, lots of boring things happened, 11:40 P.M (IRDT of course) noticing that favorite youtube channel made an upload, and changing the mood to a nice and musical mood! Thanks guys! You really brought smile on my face in past 24 hours! And about the hack ... I really should put this idea to a minimalistic orchestral piece, I'm sure it works well!
Hey hey Muhammadreza! We're thrilled we could bring a smile to your face, and a musical mood to your evening, yay! That makes our day! And yes, you should absolutely put this hack to work in an orchestral piece, that would be very cool :) We wish you a musical week with a bit less boring :D Kate
these hacks have been super helpful! I picked up all the pdfs! I studied music when i was younger, and these approaches really tie it all together for me.
Wow that's amazing, thanks big time!!! We're super stoked and grateful to have you in our Hack Music Theory community, and we hope our PDFs inspire and empower you! Looking forward to hopefully seeing you again next Saturday for more theory hacks. Until then, have yourself a lovely week, and thanks again, we truly appreciate you being here :)
Great stuff; I'm gonna try this today! I love your videos! Probably my favorite part is when you start jamming to your own music... I do the same thing! EDIT: Came back to say that I just tried this. It added a bit TOO much energy to my chorus so I'll have to re-work some things... but that's good! One modification I did was put my "down" notes OFF of the scale I was using. This made the bassline sound eerie and dangerous, which fit my song perfectly. So I suggest folks play around with exactly where they put those up/down notes. Great tips, you two!
Hello revolutionaries! We’ll be hanging out today (24 Nov 2018) from 12pm - 1pm PST, drinking tea and chatting with you in the comments. Come say hi, and tell us what tea you're drinking :)
Hack Music Theory I’m sure you can get some Rooibos in BC 😀. Dublin is wet and cold, but I’ve been playing a lot of music. Haven’t opened my DAW in a while, but I try to apply your tips when I sing, play guitar, or play bass. I hope Black Friday has been lucrative for y’all!
@@WizardOfArc Happy to hear you're playing lots, and using the hacks outside the DAW! Yes, will have to get some Rooibos, it's always great for cold rainy weather :) Have a fantastic weekend and talk soon. Kate :)
Haha "hacktacular", love it!!! Thanks big time for always stopping by, Justin, we truly appreciate you. Hope all's well with you and Angela, and we hope to see you back here next Saturday for more! Until then, have a lovely week. Ray :)
@@HackMusicTheory We love you guys. You're genuine, the real deal, and your tips are hacktacular. Can't help but comment/compliment! Also, picked up many of your books the other day, finally!
Wow that's amazing, Justin, thank you sincerely, and we hope our PDFs inspire and empower you! Also, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your kind words and support, we are truly touched, and deeply grateful to you! Looking forward to hopefully chatting more with you next weekend. Thanks again, Justin, you're awesome! Ray :)
Aww thanks so much LO-FI TUBE, and a warm welcome to the Hack Music Theory community! What kind of music do you make? Take care, and we hope to see you again soon for more theory hacks :)
@@HackMusicTheory usually I say things like "oh yeah I know this, I do it all the time XD" but in this case I'll be more than happy to try it tomorrow, however, I'll use a chromatic approach or the harmonic minor, we will see..still I'm sure it will sound awesome :p ! Thank you so much for sharing all of this great ideas with us on youtube
GREAT bass line : this Hack is just perfect for all kinds of minimal electronic music... I've just checked the original song and it's exactly my cup of tea : so thank you for both discoveries !
Wooohooo!!!!!! So happy you enjoyed this hack, it was definitely one of my favourites from last year. I remember the joy I felt when I heard the original song... my first thought was "Ooooh that's gonna make a great hack!" haha :)
@@HackMusicTheory I can't say that kids are creating music. as for now their plans of further education related to cellos are going to quit at age of 15, but they like to play piano (and they enjoy it) and I think they are in it anyway :) my return to music goes slowly, but now my mase guitar is plugged in a livingroom for good as I play everyday (even if it is few minutes)... but pls don't laugh - I play with tv (music channels) looking for some old songs that I know ;) it is PIA when many songs are tuned slighty different, but anyway I manage somehow songwriting will come - I'm on a good track
You guys must busy AF once you find a song each week to dissect. Good on you for pumping out high quality content on a continuous basis, while continuing to stay married! Also, all out of tea, so it's beer time. Cheers!
All out of tea? NOOO!!!!!! We have our tea delivered on a subscription, as we wouldn't be able to make these videos without tea, so it's vital that we're always stocked! Anyhoo, thanks big time for stopping by, Nicholas, and welcome to our Hack Music Theory community, we're super stoked and grateful to have you here! And thanks for our kind words about our content too, that means the world to us! By the way, what kinda music are you into?
Hack Music Theory at the moment, I can't get enough of this group/guy(?) called Big Black Delta. It's kind of in a Radiohead vein. But I get down to indie pop, rock, EDM, classical, whatever 21 pilots is. I'm all over the board. But I time in every week. Please keep up the great work, and thank you for what you do!
Awesome!!! You'll be right at home here then, as we believe that great music transcends genre! By the way, did you watch our Twenty One Pilots video? If not, here ya go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eN9Foew5DUc.html - Anyhoo, thank you sincerely once again for your kind words and support, Nicholas, we're so happy and grateful to have you here, and we hope to see you back next Saturday for more theory hacks :)
HAZARDOUS88 in da house!!! Always lovely seeing you, and we're super happy to hear you liked this hack! It's a really fun one, and I've used it a lot in my music, so I was really happy to find it in this song, and share it with you. The song really stood out from all the other new releases yesterday, all thanks to this clever hack! Anyhoo, hope all's well your side, and have a wonderful weekend :)
Hi Kate & Ray! Nice hack, I will have to think about it in the future! Again, I like your version better than the original. My tea today is Indian Karak tea.
That tea - it was brought to me from Emirates, tasting it for the first time, it's something like 3 in 1 with milk and other products, it's thick and sweet with some Indian flavours.
Oh, that is interesting question. You know, I'm not gifted as a musician. I can write music only in rare cases when I feel a great inspiration. With that inspiration I made some tracks for my unfinished game project and I thought I won't be able to create anything more. But, and it is surprising, time to time I still do something. Sometimes I try your hacks as an exercise, sometimes other ideas come to mind. Or I take my old crude tracks and try to refine them. Mostly I like how it goes, the process never stops and every time I get a tiny bit better! Thanks!
Haha that's AWESOME!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our Hack Music Theory community, Hyung, we truly appreciate you :) Hope you enjoyed the video, and we're super stoked to hopefully see you back here next Saturday for more theory hacks!
Hi de BXLS Bxls, thanks so much for watching and connecting! We use Reaper and are big fans of the software. Take care and we hope to hear from you again. Happy Songwriting! Kate :)
Hi Kate and Ray ! i want to buy your book called "Hack Music Theory for Songwriting & Producing: How to Make Great Songs in Any Genre" but i can't do it!
Hey hey Mr.Morning, thanks big time for watching and connecting, and welcome to our Hack Music Theory community, we really appreciate you being here! We're sincerely sorry about the website issue, we had so many people slamming it yesterday (Cyber Monday) that it actually broke the shop. It's been fixed and upgraded now though, so everything is up and running again. You can grab the Songwriting & Producing PDF here: HackMusicTheory.com/Books (click & scroll down). Thanks so much once again, we're super stoked and grateful to have you on board :)
Hey hey Tomasz, so lovely to see you again, it's been a while! Hope all's wonderfully well with you in Warsaw. Thanks big time for your interest in Apprenticeship #2, we're beyond happy to hear that after completing #1, you wanna come back for more! We literally cannot contain our excitement about #2, it's absolutely EPIC in every way (starting with the fact that it's over 30 hours!), and we can't wait to share it with you! We'll be finishing it up in January, then it'll take about a month to get everything ready, so we're thinking it will be available in March. Fingers crossed! We will definitely keep you posted in the Network though, so you'll be the first to know! Thanks again for being part of the family, you're awesome!!! Take care Tomasz , and we'll see you over in the network. Ray :)
@@HackMusicTheory Hey Ray. All's well, though I've been very busy for the past few months - which has not left me with much energy or time for music making. In times like these I enjoy at least learning some music theory so that when I finally have time to do something creative I will have some new tricks up my sleeves - so thanks for your weekly snippets of wisdom, as they fit that purpose perfectly :) Hope I will get some piece done in the near future. Since we're talking, there is one thing I wanted to ask you - do you adhere to your "avoid perfect intervals" rule when working with pentatonic scales? I tried it, but I feel this generally leaves too few notes to chose from.
Oh no I'm really sorry to hear that you've been so busy that it's left you no time or energy for making music, that sux big time! I'm super stoked to hear that our videos are still inspiring you though, that makes us very happy indeed! Regarding your question. Yeah I stick to my rule strictly, as I absolutely love the creativity it forces me to tap into, in order to circumnavigate those perfect intervals. Having said that though, if for whatever reason you want the sound of a perfect interval, then of course, use 'em. However, I'd recommend using them very intentionally, and only because that is the exact sound you want. Hope that helps, and thanks once again for being here, Tomasz, and we're very much looking forward to seeing (and hearing!) more of you and your music in the Network in the future! Take care and talk soon :)
Whoa that was QUICK!!! Impressive clicking :) We're super stoked and grateful to have you here in our Hack Music Theory community, thanks big time, and we hope you enjoy the bass magic in this video! By the way, what kinda music are you into?
