There’s a good documentary on here called “the power of darts” about how darts became popular. One of the things it struggled with was a reputation as a sport for fat alcoholics after some bad media spin. To combat this they banned all pro players from drinking on stage, although there’s a lot of speculation that a lot of them still drink before they go on. They do drug test them too. It’s come a long way
