Another crazy stat you might be unaware of is that Kareem's percentage for 3 pointers is 100%! Of course he attempted and made only 1 such shot in his entire career.
@tee1up785 he wrong as he'll! Kareem won an NBA championship within 3 years of coming into the league with Oscar Robertson & Bobby Dandridge. This is another reason he is the GOAT!
@wesleyreese7647 I actually saw Wilt block Kareem's hook in a game once (it was at an angle) so I said, "maybe" because he might have gotten him again, I'm not sure. Their battles were fierce to say the least. But Kareem won the war at every point. Wilt could not stop him. However, Wilt was toward the end of his career at the time. I think he played about 3 years (if that many) from the time Kareem entered the NBA.
Magic only played one year (his rookie year) with a prime Kareem and won 5 Championships. He commanded double teams well into his 40s. From Wilt to Hakeem, he was dominant. It's amazing how even as a Legend Kareem is still underappreciated.
It just comes with times. As time goes by they all will start to become unappreciated including Jordan and LeBron... 30 years from now we will have a new Mount Rushmore... Jordan and LeBron won't be on it.. it's going to be some kid that's probably not even born yet..lol
As much of a fan I am of Shaquille, I'm going to agree with Magic on his selection of The Captain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar as the #1 center. NO ONE could stop that beautiful "sky-hook" shot by Kareem! That's instant money!!!! Y'all stop acting like Kareem wasn't that dude!!!
Kareem is arguably the greatest "BASKETBALL" player ever, @ all levels. No disrespect to Shaq, because he was a great player, but he's never going to be included in a conversation for the greatest 🏀 player ever. But Kareem certainly will be included in that conversation...🙂
Yep. Pretty much EVERYONE plays in Jordan's shadow. There's the pre-Jordan NBA and the post-Jordan NBA. He not only impacted how the game is played on the court, but he's also had a profound impact on its economics and culture. He was not merely a great basketball player. He was and is a cultural phenomenon.
That early 80s Lakers team that had Kareem, Magic, James Worthy, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper, and A.C. Green. This was the best team that i have seen in my lifetime. Those 80s teams were something special. Lakers, boston, detroit and the 76ers.
NBA just the basketball rims glasses and broad to be stronger for Shaquille. NBA change their whole rules against Kareem. He had to make a whole different basketball move call the Sky Hook. Kareem is better than Shaquille
Kareem left so many thousands of stats on the table because some of the stats werent being tabulated til late in his career. U give him the years they didnt count his rebounds and such and he is untouchable stat wise tbh
Hakeem is #1 shot block nba. Stat wasn't counted till mid nba. Reality is. Russell had 8 teams in league, best team. Wilt played against smaller guys half career. Hakeem would drop few spots if ranked 5-8 all time block if it was counted from beginning. Shaq would sit bench if offensive fouls were counted. Mj banned if nba had integrity over gambling on nba games. Bron suspended and long ago retirement if steroids counted for him. General consensus in nba is Kareem is greatest center. That means Russell, wilt, shaq, Hakeem, and ev8other can't be higher alltime. And almost every 1 knows gambling on nba games 2xs caught is banned lifetime. Just like steroids. Then that is fact Kareem is nba greatest.
I remember watching Kareem when he was in college and he was wonderful, he made the game fun for the fans , as a pro he changed the game, just a brilliant player
They literally changed the rules for shaq... zone defense was allowed because no one could stop shaq 1:1... and stern didnt like the game slowed down with every1 fouling out
He wasn't Kareem for real. Kareem lost twice in 3 years college and won 3 championships in college he has six NBA championship rings and 8 MVPs. Kareem was and is goat conversation worthy but he is overlooked because he doesn't seek the public worship and doesn't get close to the respect he should be getting. I was Magic Johnson above everyone back then but Magic wouldn't have the accolades he has without Kareem
Youngsters think Shaq's dunks make him better? The NCAA banned dunking altogether, until three-time College Player of the Year and 3-time NCAA Champion Kareem Abdul Jabbar left for the NBA.
Shaq not being able to make free throws is a real handicap and deficit and automatically eliminates Shaq and can never place him above Kareem in this respect.
@@deldarin oh easily. 24 10 and 6 in the 80s when you could play d. Founding member of the 50 40 90 club (did it twice). Only player since the three point line addition to win 3 straight mvps
@cheetahturner4576 Kareem would foul Shaq out. He would do a basketball version of what Muhammad Ali did to George Foreman. If Hakeem Olajuwon could school Shaq in the 1995 Finals, sweep him, get the ring AND Finals MVP in the process, I'm positive Kareem could turn that trick, too. Back to where you belong, junior.
@@MDN891 dude u blind as hell kareem is overrated when he went up against big men with weight he was dominated wilt, moses so imagine 330pound shaq he get dunk on so much head spin
@@herbertsimmons6483how many finals mvps did he have ? Did he three peat ? Shaq would destroy Kareem. Kareem faced centers who couldn’t handle the ball or shoot a lick. Shaq was a straight monster with skills
They widened the lane bcuz of Wilt, he passed better than any other center bcuz he was also a Globetrotter, the Strongest, Faster ( and a better Shot blocker Defender( Wilt never fouled out of a game) and he played against more hall of fame centers...Reed, Russell,Kareem,Thurmond,Lanier, Unseld,Cowen, ABA greats in off-season/ preseason NBA/ABA games..plus they didn't keep Blocks back then..and he played with a all-star cast and proved his unselfish nature to win and you changed the double team rules because of Wilt...Rest Big Dipper!
Thousands of comedians out of werk and you're trying to be one ? Shaq was a achilles heel at the free throw line wouldn't stay in shape during the off-season and houston swept Orlando with shaq on that team.
@@umarabdul-ali6868and yet prime Shaq dominated the finals and playoffs. Kareem and his Twig frame is getting his fucking hand broken trying to stop Shaq on a dunk. Shaq would send his soft ass to the hospital
I’m a Celtics fan, born in 1960. And growing up Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul Jabbar was the most dominant player college or pro that I can remember. I’m not saying he’s the goat, but he was a force on the court. And he was a winner …. that’s just my opinion.
Kareem is the goat. He was unpopular by mainstream media for his religion and different stsnces he took, but numbers and accolades don't lie. The greatest to EVER touch a bball🏀
Skyhook was insane. I don't think new blood realize just how crazy that shot actually is and how completely unstoppable it is. What's worse is, no one is ever going to replicate it in the NBA with any successful consistency. Kareem is "shoot the lights out" personified.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won regular, playoffs and NBA Finals games at the free throw line in the last couple of minutes. Whereas Shaq was a HUGE detriment at the free throw line in the last minutes.
That’s a tough one!!! Kareem was undoubtedly more skilled and athletic out of the two, but I think Shaq was just slightly more dominant against the people he faced. They were scared to defend that man because he was like a bully in the paint. There was absolutely no answer for him in his prime! Magic said, “When they have to change the game because of you… that’s greatness.” They literally changed the game and created a whole strategy to try and stop him. See “Hack-A-Shaq.” Either way they’re both phenoms!!!!
Actually on THAT team that Magic named, I would take Oscar because all of those other guys need the ball and he was the best at passing! Better than Pete and Isaiah 🤷
"When they have to change the game because of you,".......... - Michael Jordan - Lawrence Taylor - Wayne Gretzky - Kareem Abdul Jabbar - Jack Johnson - Muhammed Ali #Greatness
Isiah deserves all the respect. Legend. As MJ said. Next to magic he's number 2. All the jordan hate has these kids not knowing. He dominated the league in his prime. Beat..MJ. bird, magic all of them
They changed the game for Shaq too. Kareem has more accolades shoots freethrows better but they both played defense.Either one of the two is a win in my book
You couldn't go wrong picking either Shaq or Kareem. Kareem was unstoppable by virtue of his impeccable skills and Shaq was unstoppable by virtue of his overwhelming size and power. Either way you can't lose.
@@bryantespinoza2303you're absolutely right, but it extends even further than that. SHAQ structured how ALL Nba teams filled their rosters. Go back and look at those teams. Each team had 4 centers, just to foul shaq. Not even for basketball talent. They NEEDED size and just to absorb that punishment he was dishing out. That's a fucking monster. Kareem would fold, he ain't lasting 48 mins with Shaq.
They allowed the NBA to play zone defense and The NBA never allowed it until Shaq dominated on those Lakers teams. So which meant no more 3 second violations if you can remember that. And they actually named the rule hack a Shaq where you as a player cannot foul like that until the last couple minutes of the the game now. And they definitely changed how they made backboards because of him also@@yunggpacino
Magic always so humble and respectful. Only people in the world that think Isaiah was better than Magic was an incredibly short list. 1: Magic Johnson. 2: An EXTREMELY DELUSIONAL Isaiah Thomas........... so that is the entire list
Not only did they have to change the game for Shaq, every team had a big guy or two who had no business being in the NBA just to foul him and put a body on him. But Kareem is a GOAT, so no hate, he's not wrong, just saying Shaq changed the NBA more than any other player while he played.
I was watching Open Court. Isiah was seating next to Shaq and he told him "I love you Shaq, but he would have killed you 😂😂". He was referring to Shaq 😅😂
Shaq changed the game! Before Shaq, the NBA could not play zone defense! Ever heard of "hack-a-Shaq? All do respect to Magic and Kareem, but Shaq was very different!
we talking prime shaq vs prime kareem? give me shaq, the most dominant player of all time. kareem missed the playoffs twice in his prime. moses malone gave kareem problems, shaq would give him nightmares. those talking about hakeem, shaq got doubled/tripled teamed while shaq played hakeem straight up watching out for foul trouble. shaq would destroy hakeem and any other center one on one, back them in and dunk in their face. hakeem even backed out of the taco bell one on one game against shaq around that time, cancelling that ppv event, bc he knew shaq would handle him. my top 5 is magic, jordan, bird, duncan, shaq.
PG : Kyrie vs. Magic SG : Kobe vs. Jordan SF : LeBron vs Bird PF : KG. vs. Duncan C : Shaq. vs. Wilt On the fast break Magic's team is the clear winner. In the paint Wilt will easily be able to handle Shaq if Wilt chose to play a physical game. Bird, Jordan, Magic and Duncan will continue doing what they do best. Continue being that unstoppable force!!!
