For those who didn't live through this era, it's hard to understand how impactful Michael was. He wasn't just the greatest ever because of his skill, but equally combined with determination, guts and heart. His playing didn't just elevate his team, but the entire sport. He even elevated the color red. No joke. The Jordan era elevated the NBA to the top status in sports it has today. Because of it, the league expanded, basketball movies suddenly became hot and were being pumped out by Hollywood by the dozen (Blue Chips, Basketball Diaries, White Men Can't Jump, The Air Up There, Space Jam etc.) and suburban kids across the world suddenly wanted to be like Mike. Basketball began to take over baseball as America's national sport as basketball courts began to pop up everywhere and added to nearly every school across the country that previously had none. He was the most significant, widespread black role model for children of all races and embedded himself as part of the culture. Michael Jordan may have influenced Western society more than anyone during the 90s.

This is fun. I love it when people realize how good MJ is. What I don't understand is how anyone can just say LeBrons the goat when you haven't even seen Jordans highlight reel. That's crazy to me, watching MJ in real time was freaking beautiful. He deserves the respect and the title of GOAT. LeBron is damn good himself. I call BS that this dudes gone this long without watching an MJ highlight. And if on top of that hes blindly proclaiming Lebron is the goat without said knowledge?? Thats a hell of a way to go through life. When MJ was in his prime everyone was talking about Oscar Robertson and his impact, but highlight reels werent accesable back then, no youtube. So all you went off of was the occasional highlight on TV, or what others said. With MJ and Lebron, theres no excuse to be uneducated on one side or the other..

I tell a lot of people this, even on RU-vid, but this one single stat is why I consider MJ the NBA GOAT. Michael Jordan is the only player to win NBA Finals, NBA Finals MVP, NBA MVP, All-Star select, Scoring Leader, First Team All-Pro, and Defensive First Team All-Pro, and did all of that in a single season. He did that on four occasions, meaning, MJ is the only one to do all that and he did it four times. At that point, why is the GOAT conversation even disputed?

@@xjpcmedel they just watching the video but not listening to what Jordan is saying. On the first part he said "I have to start from the bottom ang work myself up". That means he has to learn how to play in the highest level of the NBA league. Even if he loose he already have an impact on the league on his rookie years. He work himself up together with the team from the bottom to play together with one goal. He became an all around player when he leaned to trust his teammates. Now you and I both know this LeBron has never played with a steady coach or any All-Star caliber players until he got to Miami and before that the coaches that he did play for were garbage and just to add this in when Phil Jackson got to Chicago if you dig up some history he had already won a couple of championships across seas as an assistant coach and a head coach then he brought that pedigree to Chicago and just to show you how great Phil Jackson really was as a coach he went to a whole another different franchise and the man won four more damn rings now that ain't the coach I don't know what else to tell you but anyways Jordan always played with the same players on the team for years so you build chemistry LeBron has played with so many different players and took his teams far and did the same thing with another set of players the next year then the next year after that then the next year after that etc etc..... And he's done that with three different set of teams and one rings with all three of them once again with new players and new coaches. @@prestozable Sorry Presto but MJ is widely regarded as the greatest Scorer of all time, hence his 10 Scoring Titles in 13 full seasons in the NBA. He also has the highest PPG (both regular season + playoffs) in NBA history! Lebron has 1 Scoring Title and 1 Assists Title despite having played in the NBA for over 20 years. Jordan’s domination of the Advanced (per game) Stats have held up to challenges from LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and numerous others in the generations that followed in his footsteps. His reputation as the GOAT is not merely a media creation or the product of ring-counting - it has withstood the tests of both time and science! MJ mixed scoring volume and shooting efficiency better than just about any player in history. Over his career, he averaged 30.2 pace-adjusted points per 36 minutes (in a very physical era), easily the most of any qualified player since 1977. He remains the NBA’s all-time career leader in Win Shares per 48 minutes, Player Efficiency Rating, RAPTOR's plus/minus and he owns the greatest single-game performance (Game Score) ever for his 69-point, 18-rebound effort against the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1990! Additionally, MJ is widely regarded as the greatest, most efficient mid-range shooter of all time - his career shooting % is 50% which is incredible given that over 60% of Jordan's career shots were taken from mid-range (outside 3 feet)... Lebron, on the other hand, (from outside 3 feet) shoots 37.5% - Regular Season, 35.9% - Playoffs and just 31.7% - Finals... unsurprisingly, more than 1 of every 3 of Lebron's shots are taken from within 0-3 feet of the basket. What are we talking about here! There's no debate or comparison! MJ's Team + Individual Accolades, in addition to his all-time lead in Advanced (per game) Stats (+ the Eye Test) clearly show his Offensive Superiority but crucially they also reveal his significant Defensive superiority... - 9x All-Defensive 1st Team (Tied-record with Payton, Kobe, Garnett) - 10x Top 8 in DPOY voting (T-record with Duncan, Hakeem, Garnett) - 7x Top 5 in DPOY voting (9x Mutombo, 9x Robinson, 8x Hakeem, 7x Rodman) - 3rd place in 1992 DPOY (Robinson, Rodman) - 2nd place in 1993 DPOY (Hakeem) - won DPOY in 1988 (ahead of Hakeem, Eaton, Cooper, Robertson, Ewing) along with MVP + Scoring Title - 10 Playoffs averaging 2+ steals/game (record) - 3 Steals Titles - led his Team in Defensive Win Shares for TEN Seasons! Lebron, comparatively, has just 5 selections to the All-Defensive 1st Team despite playing for over 20 years and has no DPOY (finished 2nd in dpoy voting on 2 occasions), he led his team in defensive Win Shares on just 4 occasions. One of the most versatile defenders ever, you say?? James has spent less than 5% of his total career minutes guarding players 1 or 5...so I think you'll agree that the versatility claim is massively exaggerated. Additionally, Lebron's last selection to the All-Defensive 1st Team was way back in 2013 at age 29... he hasn't played elite defense for a decade (this contributes significantly to his Longevity, that and his load management). In a nutshell, Jordan was undoubtedly the better on ball defender with a lot more steals that weren't interceptions, he was also very effective at blocking big men's fadeaways by coming from the side, unseen...Just a more dangerous defensive match-up than James. MJ was also by far the better perimeter defender. I didn't intend to write this much, there are just so many differences between these 2 players - it's difficult to summarize! I truly believe the worst decision Lebron made in his career was to 'chase the Ghost in Chicago'... that chase has been ongoing now for 20 years and MJ is still miles ahead. Lebron is a great player and his longevity/durability has led to him passing Kareem in All-Time points...he has several strengths on the court but he also has several obvious flaws... flaws that are blinding when compared to a player like MJ who had no weaknesses. There is a reason why all other players are compared to Jordan, there's a reason why he remains the gold standard in basketball... he is the Prototype... The GOAT.

Same here. I'm 49 and I almost can't stand watching the NBA anymore. These players are so damn soft and cry and flop over every little thing. It's like trying to watch soccer now. So many people speculate, oh if you have the Bulls or other great 80s/90s teams play the great teams from today's era and they would get stomped by all of the 3 point shooters and drives to the basket. LOL. In reality, you send these teams from today back to the 90s, and they won't be shooting any threes or finishing any drives, because they'll be too busy crying and missing games to nurse minor injuries that 90s players played through every night.

I believe Hakeem Olajuwon was the MJ of centers. All time shot blocker, top ten steals, incredible footwork, post game, solid free throw shooter, lock down defender in the post and could hang on the perimeter too, he would face up and cross opposing centers like a guard well before it was common. Dragged a team without a single all star to an nba championship, the sixth seed. And swept shaq and penny’s magic (who knocked out the Jordan bulls)

@@detaquito9555 I’m not saying he wasn’t a solid footballer… so pull your neck in. Your assertion that I’d be somewhat biased towards England is as banal as your two suspiciously churlish choices. Unlike you, I chose a sporting legend who I share no national or racial affiliation with. Maybe you have a problem with his race? I wouldn’t presume… Jordan was a once in a lifetime sporting hero. The thing that is undeniable about the Basketball hero was the sheer duration that he dominated at the very top of his game, the gap between him and his peers and the global impact he had on all sports. He affected everyone’s sponsorship deals… DM alternatively, did a lot for Argentinian football, but kids in Asia, America and Europe don’t even remember him these days. You can keep crying over someone who’s lived on 3 continents overlooking your hero, but I remember him, albeit in the almost forgotten reaches of my mind. When an Argentinian, talks about DM owning English football (via cheating I might add)… I merely remember 18 RAF jump jets dominating a 200 strong Argentinian air force… and a tiny group of Marines and Infantry who pummelled a much larger, more local army of thousands into submitting to our assertion that the Falklands remains a part of GB. 😂

@@roscot40 Seriously? Talking about Malvinas? Mixing things like sports with race & war.. Dude, what a shame. Some Brits can only be proud of making a fortune by stealing from other countries. Remember you were (still are) pirates, nothing more. BTW you need to read a bit more about the conflict before talking. Listen to the interviews of your own soldiers. Last but not least, MJ was my hero. I played basketball because of him. Same as Ginobili and the golden generation who gave us a second gold medal in basketball. BUT, you can't compare the impact of basketball in comparison to football. Pele's, Maradona's, Cruyff's, Messi's influence in culture surpass all basketball players in history together. Out of all the things that could anger me about the newer style of NBA, it's only the flopping that I can't stand. Especially since the game isn't near as physical as it used to be. As an 80’s baby, I grew up watching Jordan in in the 90’s, in his PRIME! He was UNSTOPPABLE! after watching a game, he made you want immediately go out and try some of his moves. Lebron doesn’t have that IT factor. MJ had the championships, moves, points, steals, MVP’s, All-Star MVP’s, the mentality. He did this at the highest levels with some of the best of the era. He’s the GOAT.

For all the younger fans who never really watched MJ dominate ...he was - - Kawhi's build/hands & defense, - Kobe's clutch/impossible shot makinf -Draymon Green's trash talking - Russel Westbrooks motor/intensity - and the athletic ability u see in this video. Basically a bulls game was him getting the ball and pretty much gunning most of the time, but then come clutch time...last 4 minutes he always had the ball..could never miss..and he would be lock-down with Pip on the perimiter. He was unstoppable. Lebron is great. But his greatness is like watching a quarterback. Dictating and running a team and maximizing his team to run well while he picks n choses his spots throughout the game... But MJ was just the ultimate weapon..it was watching teams just look helpless bc he scored whenever he wanted in the most demoralizing ways to his defenders.

Bron is historic in his own ways, but MJ is the true undefeated Chiva supreme. What this video doesn't capture is what MJ did for the NBA in terms of international notoriety. MJ took the NBA global and was in his prime during the 92 Olympics.

Yeah, Lebron doesn’t make your jaw drop like this. Michael is clearly a circus freak of determination and sheer athleticism - a combination of both mental and physical soundness. His leaping was frog like, his clutch gene was fully in tact. LeBron is great, but I don’t think we’ll see anything like Jordan in a long time.

The craziest part of all this, is the fact that while this might be a mixtape (highlights) he was like this night in and night out. Every game was a mixtape having the luxury of growing up watching this man play was nothing short of amazing. I feel blessed to have seen him play and follow his career, the utter and absolute dominance he portrayed left you speechless. In today's game he would average 40 easy if he wanted to. He could not be guarded during the time when hand-checking was legal and being put on your back for driving the lane was commonplace, no reviews for technicals and hard fouls were the norm. The game was so much more physical back then and in my humble opinion is whats missing today.
