As i see Gary's emotional recollections over the dealing with HIV positive protocol and the ostracizization at the time, it's a reminder of how ignorant we can be, in the midst of fear and limited knowledge. Also, i can't help but to think about the difficulties experienced by Ryan White, being that he was a child at the time.

Love Vitti but thats not at all accurate. magic was suffering flu like symptoms and he had dropped a significant amount of weight. He wasnt feeling well at the time. Fact is he took weeks off and even his teammates were wondering why he was being aloof.

Hi Kevin...Gary Vitti here...the story is 100% accurate...I actually write in the book that we made up the story about flu-like symptoms because we had to buy time to retest and decide what to do about the diagnosis. All players lose weight in training camp and any of Magic's weight loss was minor and normal for pre-season. The players were in the dark, only 7 people knew, me being one of them for 2 weeks before the announcement. I hope this clears things up for you.
