@@judasgamez1131 Back in the day the retirement age for most NBA players was around early to mid 30s. For Magic to return especially from HIV which was a deadly serious lifelong disease, is some kind of a miracle itself. With the advent of sports nutrition, disciplined program of training and recuperation, professional atheletes can prolong their careers for a good 2 to 5 more years in comparison to their predecessors. Also the game isn't as rough and physical in comparison. Michael Jordan on the other hand was already a physical specimen at the get go. He was always going to be that one off genius, prized athlete that would take it into his 30s

Also, there' no way he's going to come back and not compete as hard as possible, it's not in his DNA. He didn't look as good as he did in 91' because he's obviously much older, heavier, and slower.

we'll never know the truth either. when I was a kid in HS in my mind I was all on board that it was the shear greatness of Magic but looking back years later, Dr. Buss gave Magic the keys to do anything he wanted which irked the team that bad that they ultimately bowed out with shame, when they were one of the better teams in the league with Magic and instantly an even matchup with pretty much anyone except the Bulls. So I'm 50/50 on what went wrong- Magic's alpha or if Magic was treated with too much entitlement to their detriment?

Magic's 96 comeback was actually pretty underrated looking back at it. Obviously he wasn't the same player, but was still very good and still a great passer and still showcased the unique ability to make his teammates better. They went 22-10 with him in the line up and went on to win 53 games that year. Had a disappointing 1st round exit though.

that was an event that was in the making, deflating in the playoffs. all the drama and jealousy stuff caught up with them. hate to point the fingers but I'd put it mostly on Ceballos. Magic was alpha and they didn't like it, at least Ceballos in particular. Eddie never complained and Nick did invite Magic so only Ceballos had a legitimate argument if looking at if he had a say but the instant turnaround and regular season wins that would have been more the makings of a .500 team should have been something the team got excited about and make it about that uniform they wore and not individual stardom. How was that not more important? They'd have done some real damage if the team just got over themselves. Adding Magic made every matchup 1-5 on the court very very even.

Yeah, hate to mention one of the low points when Nick and Magic bumped the refs. That signaled the real essence of what mental state the team was in at that point. They really had the ingredients to make a scary playoff push because they were at least even if not an overmatch to all the western conference. They failed not because of their talent, but the unlocked bolts that did them in. I still say years later that it's crazy what Magic did do in terms of basketball being 6 years away from the game and probably, no I go on the record, his late comeback was more worthy of celebration than Jordan's Wizards tenure, when adding the sum of success.

Fun fact: MJ guarded magic for game 1 of the ‘91 finals and he dropped a trip dub and a win. Next games he was guarded by pippen and bulls won the finals.

Trash Boy actually MJ guarded magic most of the series and kept magic to 44% shooting even though he’s a career 52% shooter. Only time Pippen switched on Magic was game 2 when Jordan got in foul trouble. Stop spreading fake news fanboy

Yeah, because once upon a time, guys had to know how TO PLAY, not just be athletes. Magic's skill was off the charts. Y'all mistake fancy shit for skill. The name of the game is to be as efficient and make the game as easy as possible.

@BRADEN GUGLIUZZA I've been watching the NBA longer than you've been alive. Thats the problem with youth, it is wasted on thinking you know more than people who have literally been where you're going. No one is hating on anything. I'm saying it again...guys like Magic had more basketball SKILL. He was fundamentally sound and game like that could work in any era. You have guys nowadays that can only play in this soft league where defense is frowned on and no one knows how to play in the post. Back when handchecking was legal...all these guts would struggle to score because you didn't get bailed out with whistles and there were great shot blocking centers waiting if you stayed trying to get to the hole. Skill is relative BRADEN. You jackass

@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 If you really think NBA players aren't just as skilled today, if not more skilled, than they were back then.. you clearly don't watch modern basketball, or you're just stuck in the past and refuse to acknowledge the evolution of the game. I've seen people like you everywhere, the "back in my day" guy who thinks hand checking and clotheslining players was somehow better for the game, and who think taking contested long 2's is somehow "efficient". The way players play today are because of how the rules and style of play have changed. They're a product of the game, just as every generation has been before them. You really think modern day players wouldn't be able to handle the "physicality" of the 80s and 90s? That's just ignorant. The game is less physical today because of rules the NBA has implemented to create a better product. Players didn't just suddenly choose they wanted to play "soft". You can't compare players from different eras, because there is no comparison -- plopping players from the 80s into today's NBA or vice versa makes zero sense because basketball is entirely different than it was back then. Don't fault the players for adapting their game to be efficient in today's NBA. It's what works.

@freshc9240 3 года назад
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 Barring transcendent exceptions like Magic, players back then relied more on physicality and LESS on skill. Today's game is much more finesse-based.

Magic could have played one more season with Shaq and Kobe. Even though he was 37 years old, moving to the PF position enabled him to not guard faster and quicker players because PF players back then were big bruisers like Oakley, Malone, Barkley, Otis Thorpe who relied on their strength down in the post. And Magic, clearly from this video was a very strong dude.
