I absolutely love your videos...I grew up in Glasgow (Scotland) and in the 70s 80s California seemed very exotic to me and i was determined to make it there, but alas, life happens, I am going there eventually nxt year, at the age of 52, decades later than anticipated lol 😂 but until then I can live the past decades vicariously through your posts....thk you ❤
I remember seeing Paul King perform live (Love and Pride, Won't you hand now, etc.) at the Showcase Theater in the summer of 85 at what I believe was one of the all night end of summer party events when the park remained open until 5AM. Magic Mountain did the all night events at the beginning of summer when school was out and at the end of summer before schools started. Those were the days when I could stay up all night, get two hours of sleep, and then go to work and not miss a beat. Great Times! Thanks for recapturing all of them Kurt!
Yep, at the Golden Bear (also known as the Showcase Amphitheater) I saw Jellyfish on April 3rd 1993 with Gene Loves Jezebel, and my first concert there was The Tubes on October 29th 1982. Excellent performances, and was extremely lucky to have seen those bands live.
I also use to work at six flags and every year they're changing that place, it sucks all the cool rides like Cyclone, Tidal wave, Log jammer are gone and when I worked there I heard rumors that soon Viper will be tear down.
High school 1992. A bunch of us thought it'd be a good idea to take a certain mind altering substance at Magic Mountain. We got on one ride which was the Log Jammer. Then the stuff kicked in. We ended up being too freaked out to ride anything else and stood around for hours, wet and cold. We laugh about it now but that was the worst idea. A crowded theme park isn't very conducive for such an undertaking Lol
Six Flags Wiki states the name change from Showcase Theatre to Golden Bear Theatre happened in 1993. Apparently the name change happened when the High Sierra Territory was added.
Saw The Bangles , "All Over the Place " tour. Regret missing the Wall of Voodoo show back in 83. Ironically, I was writting about the concerts at Magic Mountain this afternoon. Trip out!
I saw Information Society here. It was a fantastic show. They can’t keep a building just because of history. Those kinds of bands don’t play amusement parks anymore, preferring places like Indian casinos or bigger venues like The Greek or Hollywood Bowl in music festival type events. So I can see why Magic Mountain would want to remove an underutilized building. And they aren’t the only park making this decision either. It’s sad, but it’s logical. Amusement parks don’t stay the same forever. I’m more upset they took out the log ride.
I worked at Magic when that TLC riot happened back in 1993. I didn’t witness it, because they called employees to tell them to stay home before my shift started.
I know that feeling Kurt when a building goes away were I live in England a pub called the crooked house which date's back to the 1700s recently burnt down and was knocked down days later it was a building were marbles roll uphill because it leaned to the one side I really wish people would leave our history alone it's so sad when history goes away 🥺
First the Universal Amphitheater was demolished in 2013, now the Showcase Theatre. What is next, the Greek Theatre? I saw Stevie B, Brenda K Starr and Expose in the summer of 1989.
If all the RU-vidrs that have memories of the park or history, I noticed they leave out a lot of key details that used to be at the park. For instance, there used to be an aquarium at the park right around where Dive Devil is now. They had a little dolphin and sea Lion education show and yes , they had acrobatic divers too. Speaking of acrobats. There used to a lake where Hurricane Harbor is now where you could see water ski shows and the firework shows were there too. And they had the Chinese acrobatic team that was a regular attraction for a while. They were kind of like Circe de Solei before there was a Circe de Solei. Also there was a small zoo and petting zoo there which is now part of Bugs Bunny World. I believe it was you would point out the animal paintings on the fence where the zoo used to be. Also Colossus used to run one train backwards way before there was a Fright Fest. Or a Psyclone. It was when it still had the PTC trains. When they switched to the Morgan trains they couldn’t use those trains to run backwards. Something about their design and configuration made it impossible. They borrowed Psyclone’s trains because those trains had a similar configuration to the old PTC trains and they could run backwards. Twisted Colossus cannot run backwards now because thee RMC trains are not configured properly to make that possible. Also the RMC tracks are customized so not just any train can be used. And before it was Fright Fest, the Halloween event was called Haunted Mountain. I could go on and on. I have a deep connection to this park which means I am old AF.
RIP Showcase/ Golden Bear Theater....served us well for 50+ years. Wonder what kind of ride is going up in it's place......🤔 Hopefully a new water attraction...maybe.....the return of Log Jammer? Hmmmmmmmm🤔
Sean, are you forgetting? that’s a big theatre well not huge but it’s big enough to fit the station for the new GIGA ride. I know you want another water ride but MM wants that one ride that will put them as the best coaster park in America or the world. Those teasers they did on their IG page was not a joke.
@@BeastingcoastersA giga coaster most certainly would be awesome, but it won't fit into that small space. Where would it travel with everything else in the way?
Same....saw Chuck a couple times... Always got there early, sat up front One of the times, George Thorogood was there, sat with some other people in some folding chairs there in that little area inbetween the stage, and the stands Chuck never called him up, but was cool to see George
Unfortunate, but not surprising. That theater isn't used that much anymore and adding a new ride in that section will help spruce that area up. On the bright side, we at least have the Screampunk theater.
I'm definitely in the "ride enthusiast" category, but the park doesn't have to be all rides. If they have other types of attractions like theaters, it's easier to get a group to go with you to the park because some people will like different things. I'm disappointed that some of the rides in that commercial no longer exist, as they, too, were a piece of '80s history.
Was always a great time at The Untouchables gigs! Saw Boingo at MM, Halloween very early 80s. They lit it up that night! Colossus running in reverse was a blast too!
My brother got to see Stevie B at the Showcase Theatre in the late 80's. I remember driving with my mom to drop him off with his gf and thought how cool he was. I was only 11 so mom didn't let me go :( here is clip from that show ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F7MC4WArJnw.html
magic mountain shows died once they tore down the batman stunt stadium once they stopped that in 2007 or 2008 they virtually gave up on shows completely it still blows my mind that they don't have the Chinese acrobats show anymore in the former magic moments theater sad to see the park without street performers and at least one show
With some of the acts they brought in there, around our house, we used to call the place "Six Stabs Magic Mountain". I have not seen anything about MM in a very long time. Do they still have the trolls?
Sad. Im not a show enthusiasts as theme parks go, (im looking at you country bear jamboree and america sings), yes rhose are Disneyland features, but approaching 55 years old, magic mountain was always my favorite growing up in the 70s and 80s. I guess i am a ride enthusiasts but jt just seems magic mountain has become sensory overload the last couple times ive been there. It used to be more of a relaxed atmosphere with hit rides spread out. With attendance booms at all the major parks in the recent decade, i believe i wont be returning to them in my foreseeable future.
In the 80s, I've seen Animotion, A Flock of Seagulls, the original line-up. In 2009, I saw When in Rome, met two of the guys from the band and A Flock of Seagulls, the last line-up..with Mike Score..who I have met many times and spoke too. I think I saw Berlin there too. Here's one of the videos from 2009. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ggodm0V2Sho.htmlsi=GfaE6RkqQYLJ472Y and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wnAXuhCCohY.htmlsi=g2IzAOv09RAYL741
Unrelated to the Theater, 1) around 77, 78 there was a rickety metal roller coaster that was near the front gate , anybody remember what that coaster was called? 2) There were some mascots that looked like Pacman ghost, what where they called? 3) I ❤ Goldrush.
@ayyo-jason , I did a Google search. That's the coaster! It looks so sketchy compared to REVOLUTION. I attended Magic Mountain when REVOLUTION was new. And then went back when Colossus was the big thing. Years later went for The Bangles concert . Last visit was when The Riddler was new. Thank you so much for the tip. How? How were you able to come up with the name of the coaster?
Hey brother, I love your content. I'm a freelance photographer/videographer/drone photographer living near where the McFlys went to school. I work mainly real estate and right in the middle of the lockdowns I had a job right next to the Gambler House in Pasadena area. There was nobody out, I had my gear and ended up stopping and doing a full on real estate type shoot of the front of the house. On my channel I try to document photos I take and share the experience, technical stuff and vlog the process of capturing the image. If you'd ever like to collaborate on anything where you might need a drone or just think it would be a great spot to document with high quality photos or video, count me in. Its funny, I've worked with a few celebrities and I have taken pictures of a few filming locations, like Nakatomi Plaza in Century City ;) and I find myself getting far more excited to see filming locations in person.. Although it could be because I have not met any A listers but I have been to mostly A lister filming locations.
@@80sLife Thanks for checking them out. There's a lot of shorts and a few long form videos. Essentially the theme I am going with moving forward is essentially a behind the scenes VLOG on my hunt for photos, and then sharing some of the technical data with my viewers and the occasional tutorial. I have been weak on content as of late because I am a fairly new Dad and just coming out of terrible twos and once again finding time to pursue this theme. I am every easy going, have no expectations, happy to share all footage, and I do not take myself seriously at all. Just hoping to add some value and let the rest work itself out. Either way I think it would be a good time.
Not the Golden Bear Theater!!!! Man! saw so many concerts there back in the day Timmy T, CC Music Factory to name a few and was present during the TLC, Paperboy riot of 93! Singing.. Back in the days when I was young I'm not a kid anymore! LOL!!
I love how they blame the artist for what some dumb ppl did. And they were the ones who overbooked the park to begin with. It’s real easy for them to blame the acts. Pure racism. MM is over priced and under serviced. Stopped going years ago.
This is typical Six slums operations, they tear anything down where they have to pay HUMAN BEINGS to provide live entertainment, or just abandon places that call for revenue to be spent on them such as Metro and SkyTower for that matter that has sat abandoned for at least 10 years if not more because of a part for the elevator cost 1million to fix. What about the Epic parades and marching bands that used to come down the mountain in celebratory fashion???? the museum that was taken down from the SkyTower? The shows at the Magic Moments theater???? The gondolas or any people mover for that matter in park over twice the size of Disney??? I Love Magic Mountain but the owners of this precious place only love MONEY SMH Newhall Land Management please come back............
