It's not the fact that he can't sing in the original key. It IS THE FACT that he can still sing with power and clarity and has crafted a really great rendition of such a good song. Super great! Perfect for a live song.
It's hard to believe it was over 40 years ago now when I saw Triumph perform this live. Rik and Gil both sounded amazing. That he can still sing and have any range is great.
The reality was this, at 30 most people can't hit the notes Rik does....same goes for Brad Delp....but ...doesn't change the song nor its meaning. I do this song capoed at 5th fret and a little slower, gives the song some soul😊
Went to school at BCI with Rik who was probably the most popular guy in the school. A running back for the football team. Was a great athlete, great musical talent, and most of all always authentic, smiling, kind, and a wonderful decent person. Twas ever thus! You've given people a trove of musical memories and did it your way.
I think Rik sounds better in a lower key. I feel the same way about Gedi Lee. When they were young, it sounded like they were shouting instead of singing. I still liked their songs but it was more the music and its energy that drew me.
I was 8 years old in 83 and thanks to my older brothers playng great Rock and Roll I was exposed to these now Classics. Times have change good friends have passed, family has passed but this legendary music will out live us all. God Bless this Man and his family and all of you who enjoyed this Legend before, now and as long as your given the chance to. ✌
Triumph was my favorite band in the ‘70s and I still play their songs. Rik Emmett has been my biggest inspiration to play guitar since I was a teen. Now I’m 65! Such an incredible songwriter and guitarist!
@@5Ring Oh man, you'll be doing your wife a favor, the guitar and you a favor. You need to dust that puppy off, get some new string's and start putting your hands around it !! There are so many good amps out now for just a few hundred dollars you'd be set. You'll be glad you did.
@@5RingYes , start playing and become one with the instrument it is an escape and helps with stress management. Once you get good you can record some chords somehow then play leads to the chords it's very fun .
Rik and the Triumph band were a huge part of my childhood. Their lyrics and music are phenomenal. I accept being old now, because it means I got to be young then...🤘
What a great statement. I just turned 60 and have been feeling a bit down. The wisdom of your statement really help give me a boost. Thank you so much!!!!!
Ty for your words of wisdom! I'm having a difficult time accepting the fact that I'm older, more white and less hair. You have helped me. Blessings to you! 👍🙏
@@richardjensen8351 To Richard, Jimmy, and James - your feedback hits home, and I sincerely thank you. Musically, we were blessed greatly, to grow up from the mid 1960s through mid 1980s. Stay strong. Continue to be thankful. 🤘
Go Rik!!!!! This gave me goosebumps! I have so much respect for this guy. In a world of lip syncing and prerecorded background tracks, I love that he can rework the music (and to do it damn good) so it matches his current vocal abilities so he can sing it live. That's talent and dedication and integrity.
Triump was my first concert in st Louis mo. At the checker dome.rick u all blowed me away brother.i luv triump an wish I could see triump again.thanks for my first concert and awsome time for my birthday my sister got me tickets to triump in st Louis. Donnie Bunch rhonda Bunch.luv u triump
Yep. I had one. I carried that little radio everywhere with me. God bless you Rick Emmett, you are an icon. 🤓👍. New Years 1984/85, best live Rock show I ever saw. 🤓👍🎇
I love the fact that he owns the changes in his voice. None. of us are kids anymore. This just sounds like a cool alternative version.... still got pipes Rik!!!
I agree 100%! If Steve Perry came out and said he doesn't tour anymore because he just can't sing like that any more, would anyone think differently about his legacy? No. Same here.
Rik, I just recently found you and I'm so glad I finally did! You have the greatest voice! I'm 69 and music has helped me through some difficult times. I refuse to get old! 😊
I'm 59. There were three musicians I always paid to see. EVH, Dave Meniketti, and the one, the only, the most underrated and greatest in my era...Mr. Rik Emmett. He has a lot of my money. He never, ever, let me down. Absolutely amazing musician. And more importantly, when the crowds began to dim, an absolutely fabulous, accomodating, grateful human being. Thanks Rik. You are a better than you are a singer and guitar player. It's impossible...but you are.

What a great tune! My God, my guitar hero has arrived! Versatile guitar player, fantastic vocalist, great songwriter and most importantly, appears to be a kind human. My way to follow from tenderness to passion... My greatest rock music influence who even forced me to pick up my own electric guitar to resonate with him! How I want to learn your hooks, riffs and chords! Your unforgettable double neck guitar brings only good memories:... Thanks a lot, my dear Rik! You are amazing!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤still my ALL Time FAVORITE MUSICIAN!! I remember Rik, the very first time I heard that song. .. emotions of JOY leapt right out of me!! Still does!! THANK YOU FRIEND!!❤❤
Thanks for this. This guy has been blowing me away with his talent since I was a 16 year old in 1979. Unbelievable live and has never received the recognition he deserves. Thanks Rik.
Rick will always be 1 of the greatest musicians of all time ! His music is timeless n passionate! Bravo Rik ,keep Rocking n happy 70 b-day! Excellent work at its finest. Ty😊
When i started college in Maine in 83 i found a Triumph tape under my dorm room mattress....well 40 years later i still love them. They were one of the best bands of that era. He can still sing....and transport us back to old memories. I love that.
When this was on radio , MTV , You could hear the epic melody ,emotion, and pure talent oozing from the speakers. What a special time to be young! Damn you father time!
I’m 55 and play guitar. My first concert was Triumph 1982. It was the MTV craze and I was mesmerized by him and Fight the good fight ! Then Magic Power, lay it on the line, say goodbye and all their albums and GREAT songs… My guitar techniques and movements are from RIK!! One of the best and likable musicians of all time!!
Very coo,l Rik is a great guitarist to play like , your playing I bet is pretty good using Riks techniques . On you tube if you type in Rik Emmett demonstrating triumph songs he teaches the viewer how to play his songs and how he approaches soloing . If you haven't seen them check it out it's pretty cool. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0vX71EfCocc.htmlfeature=shared
Sounds Awesome!!!Keep Rocking Rik Emmett !!! Thank you for Great Music !!! Also Triumph Nation purchase the Triumph US FESTIVAL 83 DVD. It takes you back to the 80’s. Play it loud !!! 🎸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s sad when I see older singers try to match what they did when they were young. Instead, Rik transformed the music to match his current abilities, which are still amazing, just different. That’s not just talent, it’s humility as well. Love that guy, and this song.
I saw Triumph in 1982 on the Allied Forces tour and again in 1986 on the Sport of Kings tour. They were one of the greatest live bands ever to take the stage. I still play their albums. Great music never goes out of style.
This took me back. I had a little red transistor radio that I got for Christmas. I and my sisters all got them. I remember, vividly, listening to that radio, under my pillow, late into the night because my room was right next to my parent's room, you see. I first heard THIS SONG on that radio! This ended being my personal favorite and anthem for years. Rik is 100% spot on about the "magic power" of music. Music has gotten me through many a tough time; death of loved ones, lost love, being hungry and broke, all of it. Wete it not for the grace of God and music, who knows how life would have turned out. ✝️
Rik is one of the greatest guitarists of my lifetime, holds a special place in my life’s timeline. And this song encapsulates why the music matters, keeping us young when our mirrors tell a different story.
Triumph never really got the respect they deserve. They were a great band with lots of really amazing songs. They deserve some respect for that. ❤ Triumph!!!
At 70! What! Seriously! He still has an amazing voice. No excuses, thank you, Rick, for bringing this song to life again with a softer gentler side that just makes it so great. Cheers everyone!
@@crusheverything4449 Well put. I almost cringe when I see that overused, misused word. I saw them/ him in Philly. I was numb for two days after hearing and watching him. After the numbness left, I forced my band to learn Fight the good fight. It took us two weeks !! Lol. Had to bring a girl in to sing Rick's vocals. God, he is something else. I wrote this before. He is doing exactly what he was born to do !!! That's a great thing. Rare. Nice to see him again 40 years later. Hot Damn time flies !!!!
Holy shit, Rik...I literally grew up with you & your awesome freakin band! Glad to see your still rockin at 70, I'd love to buy you a beer lol. Many thanks for ALL the great music, much love, my brither!
Triumph's songs touched my heart so many years ago... and they still do. I love this song!! Rik's voice encouraged me through some very touch times as a youth and I'm so thankful to hear his voice today... so many years ago.. thank you for the beautiful music that touched our hearts and helped us through the tough times!!
Thank you for posting this! Triumph was such a huge part of my childhood, discovering them in junior high school. Hearing their music, Rik Emmett's voice, and guitar playing in particular takes me back and I can still remember certain things in my life. You know how certain songs can really have an impact on you - have a deep, or special meaning to you? Magic Power has always been one of those songs for me. Rok on Rik! And thanks for the memories!
I will always be a fan. I feel great listening to the music of Triumph. It gives me a reason to forget the messed up world for a little bit and lifts me up to the sky in my mind. Music is my escape. It always has!😀
I'm so happy to see him with almost the same vibes that he had much young, with the Triumph. Because life goes on, and The body suffers with the time, but what really important is the heart, the spirit of what you love. And Rick looks agree with that, with rock in the heart
Was traveling back in the day very late at night in East Tennessee listening to AM WLS out of Chicago, and they played this song. Was simply blown away, and to this day, this track gives me chills. Thanks Rik.
THAT WAS SO AWESOME! I've been a fan since what I like to call day one after seeing Triumph in Texas in 1978. A DJ on the radio there got ahold of one of their tapes and started playing it. We ALL became instant fans and couldn't wait to see them. What a song writer and such a high performer still to this day!
What a great man. So talented. I still can't believe I saw him playing in a a little tent in (I think) 1990 on Brant Street at the Burlington Sound of Music Festival. He was so awesome and gracious. Love him.
Holy crap - that was good! I so wish Triumph would do a tour so I can check them off my list of “I can’t believe I missed seeing them live back in the day” bands.
Gil Moore says it would take him a year to get in the physical shape he would need to be in. To do a tour. He says, at his age. It just isn't worth the effort, for what little they would profit. Like Rik said, "They're 70+ years old".
You've brought back a fabulous memory of a tour bus in a filling station parking lot in Chicagoland nearly 50 years ago! A few of us local teens and the 2nd best EVER Canadian power trio... The Stuff of Dreams! THANKS And Cheers rl 🤘👹🤘
Rik Emmett is one of the reasons I became a Musician. Pure Talent and emotion, LIVE Off the Floor NO AUTOTUNE and No Sampling. Great Songwriter, Singer, Performer and one of the greatest, most underrated Guitarists of all Time. As a 14 year Old Kid I took a half day off school to watch Triumph at Ontario place and I was blown away then as I am blown away now. Keep On Rocking Rocket as I have visions of Street Fighter Man from 1978 in my head. Thanks so much for posting this.
