saw them when laser lights were just being introduced into the live shows. great times and my buddy caught him solo years later in Louisville and talked to him after the show. he told Rick we saw him in Lakeland and it took him back.
Been listening to them since the 80's and I'm not gonna stop now! Just like was mentioned below - I saw the introduction to the laser light shows (and the airport landing lights from before that time). I also saw Rik every time he was coming through Ohio. You're the master of your own destiny.... give and take the best that you can!
I don’t know I was a teenager when this song came out I don’t think they run rated because everybody loves triumphs and everyone has a triumph album that I know
I love looking for these comments. It's the "underrated" comment. Now here we have a band that's got a 1 million watt light show, an audience of upwards of 80,000 people, and regular radio air play, but they're UNDERFUCKING RATED!! How much more rating would make you happy? Maybe we can change the name of a state, no, the entire country to Triumph! Maybe we can have Triumph History month! Hey, let's paint Triumph in gigantic letters on the moon so everyone can see it from earth. Would that be enough "rating" for you? drrrrrr
Yeah... time goes by fast... I was there at the US FESTIVAL that day! Best 20 bucks I've ever spent! Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️
@@jamescoleakaericunderwood2503 I was there! It was amazing! I never heard that song before that day! It shook me to the core! I have never forgotten the words and the words are words to live by! So true! I was there in 82 also! It was so very HOT! 115 degrees! I remember all the water canons. First ones to the front of the stage and thirty minutes later we looked back to see two hundred and fifty thousand people behind us! We could hear the music from eight miles away! I will never forget both festivals! BTW, Wilcox High school in Santa Clara CA -class of 80!
Just an incredible live show! Attended their Sport of Kings tour in Phoenix and so uniquely talented, entertaining and professional in their performance! Their light show was something else and ahead of its time(late 80's)...blew me away! Viva Triumph !
Seen them twice in the 80s. You're not wrong. They rocked both shows! Amazing live. Met Rik once. True gentleman. From teenager to Oldman, and still a fan 😅😅
I saw them with Foghat 2 weeks before this show at the Baltimore Civic Center. Inside the Civic Center they got to use their pyrotechnics and lasers in their show and I'm sure it had better sound then at a festival. It was an awesome concert.
Moxy, David Wilcox, Max Webster, Guess Who, Dutch Mason, Lenny Breau, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Anne Murray, The Band minus Levon Helm, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Jeff Healey, Bryan Adams, Shania, Stompin Tom, Diana Krall, and too many more to list (or not my style like Drake).
I was there, 7 months pregnant in a bikini cause it was like 108 degrees ! You can’t see me but I’m in this video lol This!! A three piece band, the best 3 piece band. I miss those days of live bands! Triumph was so underrated! So grateful this popped up in my feed this morning. What a song! “Fight the good fight every moment,” may you all have peace and love ❤
I think Rush fans might disagree. In fact, I know that the guys from Triumph would disagree when talking about Rush. They’re all huge Rush fans. It’s a Canadian thing. Trudeau may be Prime Minister, but Rush are the kings of Canada. Only two kings left, RIP to the professor and legend, Neil Peart.
@@RoarOfWolverinewhy? Why attack a lovely person relating her love of this event from a great band? Most all know Rush friggin’ ROCKS! You come off pusillanimous…
Great canadian band. I was there US Festival 1983. Huge venue.. I road my motorcycle there .3 days,to see this concert.. They were the favorites that day .. 3 piece band , blew away everyone else..rock show.. Wish they played at night with all the pyrotechnics that Gil invented ,started as a rock show theme. Canada 1980..shows. They didn't need it ,to impress this day... But wow. Live combo 1985 . Small venue canada and USA. Memorable..cheers gary Saskatchewan, Canada.
Is there an explainer somewhere explaining what he’s doing?? It sounds “diff” than the studio version. Almost as if he adding extra, quick notes, into theme. Sounds magical. But as a non musician, I don’t understand it, let alone how to explain it.
I sent this video to a childhood friend who is battling cancer and needs encouragement to stay in the fight. This song seems more fitting than any other I can think of to send him a message of hope.
The best recording of this song is this performance. The tones and delay are perfect. His vocals are top notch. Hardly anything sounds as powerful that that second chorus.
TRIUMPH - Fight the Good Fight (Live in HALIFAX) is really good too, can't say I agree with you completely, but it really doesn't matter, this performance is TRULY EPIC simply because of the massive crowds and open air.
Thank goodness that... in this world of confusion... I turn to this song and I not only feel better but I rejuvenate and I resolve to continue to.. "Fight the good fight!" My grown kids like it, too, and because I've played it for them all of their lives they used it as "a call to action" when the good fight seems impossible!! Absolutely LOVE this song!! Those guitars...❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Fight the Good Fight Every Moment!!! YES!! Keep on fighting the good fight and don't quit.. don't give up! This song encouraged me through some very rough years and it still does today!! Thank you Triumph!!! Peace and love only ❤🔥🔥🔥
BROTHER TRUTH I love it when I cruise old Triumph songs on YT and see comments like this.. Rik was un fucking believeable. what a voice. what a presence.
I agree wasn’t there as I was only 7 when they played the US Festival but I got the DVD unbelievable how tight they were and I heard they didn’t have there own equipment they had rented the gear hours before they went on.
@@Kevin-dv7pg Agreed, with Judas Priest third. Van Halen got an honorable last place award for making us wait 90 minutes for their set after the Scorpions.
Reminds me of my childhood friend who was killed a couple years ago in a motorcycle accident,I always get clouds in my eyes when I hear triumph, takes me back to the best days of my life.
Not me, and I was actually there in San Bernardino 7 months pregnant in a bikini 😂😂 it was like 110 degrees out. So not only the song which is enough on its own, but the memory of that experience. ❤❤❤
@@user-bl6ne3hc6n I watched all the performers that day and agree. Triumph and Priest were spot on. Van Halen played their set and MA and EVH were good but DLR was just talk-singing and making drinking innuendo. It was like they were at a back yard party. Funny so many of the acts weren't Metal at all but neither were some of the acts on the Rock day actually Rock acts 🤷♂
@@mefornewtnow Two more members and worse singer/screamer who only sings/screams. Subjective opinion. Priest was great for sure. I bought the DVD I liked the show so much and saw them whenever they came to town.
Rick Emmett was a Christian but he was never throwing it in peoples faces but it crept into his music. Read the lyrics of this song if you don’t believe me. Spectacular band
I was lucky to see them twice when I was younger. The raw energy you see here is nothing compared to what it was live. This is just a little taste of it!
I met Rik backstage at a big multi-band outdoor festival (big for San Antonio, Texas) when he was touring for his first solo album. He was really cool. He took the time to chat with me and my wife for about three minutes..AFTER his set! He had places to go and important people to see, but he stopped when we said hi, then took the time to make us feel welcome. Such a legend.
You sound like one of these long / short haired hippy typed cats I'm guessing 🤣 long may you run. I been eating this shit since it came out, it don't get no bedda, even in America ✌️
Saw an interview where they opened for Journey at the Rose Bowl, and Rik and Steve Perry were talking backstage, and PERRY ASKED RIK HOW HE WAS ABLE TO HIT ALL THOSE INCREDIBLE HIGH NOTES SO EFFORTLESSLY...you are good when that happens.
@@jeffwarren4938 I was always of the opinion that Rik Emmett's voice was as good as Perry's. They both had a very unique timbre to them and were powerful.
@RaymondBCrisp I agree 100%..slightly different styles of voice, but equal in my opinion. Rik's more of a straight rock voice, Perry's more of a blues/R&B voice....both world class! Rik all the while playing guitar with virtuosity!
My very first concert was Triumph, UFO, Saxon. I was like 14yrs old. I went home that night and said to myself that is what I want to do!!! And I’ve been playing guitar and in bands ever since!!! Rik Emmett blew me away that night!!!
Yep...I saw them four times starting in '78! Huge stage shows when on their own stage/tours. Rik Emmett...virtuoso voice and guitar! Steve Perry once asked Rik, when they opened for Journey at the Rose Bowl, how he hit tjose high notes so effortlessly!!!!
Same here..my best friend and I wanted to go so bad...not enough bread to get there from Southern Indiana...listened simulcast on the radio, and threw a keg party instead!
WOW! US '83! One of the most incredible music events of my life! And I was just a little whipper-snapper then! The US Festival is one for the history books!
Days grow shorter and the nights are getting long Feels like we're running out of time Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong You got to read between the lines Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid We can make it through another day Make it worth the price we pay The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive I do my best to do my part Nothin' in my pockets, I got nothin' up my sleeve I keep my magic in my heart Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby I am counting on you You know what you've got to do Fight the good fight every moment Every minute, every day Fight the good fight every moment It's your only way All your life you've been waiting for your chance Where you'll fit into the plan But you're the master of your own destiny So give and take the best that you can You think a little more money will buy your soul some rest You'd better think of something else instead You're so afraid of being honest with yourself You'd better take a look inside your head Nothing is easy, nothing good is free But I can tell you where to start Take a look inside your heart There's an answer in your heart Fight the good fight every moment Every minute every day Fight the good fight every moment Make it worth the price we pay Every moment of your lifetime Every minute every day Fight the good fight every moment Make it worth the price we pay
I always think to myself what would it be like to wake up one morning, open my mouth and have a voice like his come rolling out........simply and utterly mindblowing vocals 🧨✨️❤✨️🧨
I just love his voice. I was one of the few of my friends who listened to Triumph when I was in HS in the early 80s. ZZ, 38 Special, Journey, that’s what was popular, these guys were my secret stash of uniqueness.
big Rush fan... never listened to Triumph before. Didnt realize the guy sounds so much like Geddy Lee. In fact sounds MUCH better than Geddy... Same high pitch but much smoother to my ears ! Im impressed.
Rik's voice is much, much more smooth and natural sounding than Geddy...especially live, Geddy always sounds like he is screeching in his highest register! Nails on a chalk board to me.
One of my favorite vocals of all time. I never understood why Triumph was such a niche band. God-given talent beyond words. People who have never heard of them are universally impressed watching this performance. I feel sorry for them that they weren’t listening back in the 80’s.
I was at this show, now here I am almost 60 years old and still love listening to it. Music just isn't the same anymore. Still one of my favorite songs and my neighbors too, lol. Ive never grown out of listening to my music loud!!!
I was at this show!🥰 I was 22 years old. Biggest crowd I've Ever been in. (400,000+) Heavy Metal Day! 👍 Wish I remembered more of the day! 😁😕 Mike in San Diego!. 🌞🚀🎸🖖
