The quality of your videos is by far much better than many other youtubers, no nonsense scoring system and honest opinions, appreciate that Mike, thx a lot 👍
This version is exactly what I wanted asics to do, a nylon like plated Metaspeed for training, with similar geometrics/specs(less ffblast+ instead of ffblast turbo), makes a lot more sense than the old model and complements the Metaspeed Sky and Edge, love the path asics is following.
I got my Asics magic speed 2 yesterday and I put them on right out of the box and ran a little lap. It was fantastic. The shoe is so fast, wow. And for 100 euros absolutely a bargain. Mike, you were right, this is a phenomenal training shoe. I think I'll buy a few more.
had been waiting for this to drop seriously. after ZF5 disappointment i was hoping this and upcoming takumi sen9 to be something to look forward to. hope more colourways will be introduce for this
I just sent back my Novablast 3's because they're so squishy that my toes would start to get numb after a few miles. I have never done well with super soft foam so about to order these and hope they are firm enough for me. Thanks for the review!
Asics had been my goto shoe for about 25+ years until about 2016 when they seemed to lose their way, making mostly very heavy clunkers. A friend got me to try the magic speed 1 and I was so happy with them. Asics now has a pretty good shoe line up, so I’m slowly moving my shoe rotation back to Asics. The key for me is that the shoe must be light (
Asics helped get me into running in high school and college! I was very loyal but then they lost their way indeed in the 2010s. Curious to try them again!
funny how it's so so different from the magic speed 1, really different. i have the first one, and it's kinda harsh, really light and speedy, but my body feels aftwards really hard. the speed 2 feels like a really upgrade, so much that i will wait for it to come to brazil (because i love the magic speed 1, even it been really harsh on my body, maybe because it has maybe zero 'comfort' in it). the 2 tho could be used more and more, not in just 'run's' but as maybe daily. anyway, love your reviews!
Just bought these shoes today ..i am a runner who runs barefoot, without any shoes, most of the times and otherwise with very cheap shoes ..tomorrow gonna do a half marathon with these shoes ..will write here .after the run..I did a walk and jump in these shoes ..it felt great. Let's see how I go tomorrow
I have run more miles in my Novablast 2’s than any other shoe and was hoping the Magic Speed 2 would be a good speed day shoe for me. I bought the ASICS Hyperspeed and they work for me but wondering how these would compare. I am one of the runners you mentioned in the video who doesn’t plan to buy the MetaSpeed Sky/Edge +. Great video!
how did you like the hyperspeed? also i can't seem to find reviews on the hyperspeed 2 atleast not in english. also why woudnt you get the metaspeed + shoes? (im new to running.)
The hyperseed has no ffblast sole, think asics is trying to go all in ffblast. Try the magic speed , if u like it u will like the magic speed 2 more sole on the forefoot
I am looking forward to my pair arriving. I pre-ordered mine after you mentioned during a daily live stream that you feel a lot of people will use this shoe like the older Bostons. The Boston 5-9 was my go to shoe for about 5 years and plan to use the Magic Speed 2 in the same manner.
Nice! I might have to pick these up along with the Novablast 3. I have some Lunaracers with almost no mileage on them that I use from time to time, but they can leave me feeling pretty beat up.
We're just gonna gloss over the 5k PR? lol Congratulations, man! 19min 5k is an amazing time. Good video, too. Leaned a lot. And I know how hard it is to tow the line between hard selling and fair and balance. It's a nice looking shoe but it is probably not for me.
Great review..👌🏻👍🏻 Managed to get my hands on this shoe yesterday....tempting. Can't afford to buy metaspeed😂.. expensive here in malaysia.. I think gonna grab this one for 10k race & HM..
@@mohdhafiz5840 Hhehe.. ok tested 10k.. 5k pace 5:30+5k pace 6:30... First 5k tu feel dia ok, snappy, responsive. Mmg agak ok utk pace yg mcm tu. Midsole mmg rsa agak firm mayb sbb baru kot. Tp bile run easy.. mmg midsole rasa sgt x sedap. Kne lebihkn midfoot+heel strike.. of coz la kn.. carbon plate.. xkn nk run slow.
Nice delivery on Magic Speed 2 even if you were biased😁 I was convinced that this will be my next shoe. Well I will ask again will you be at XC Country Nationals in SF, CA in 2022?
I got on sale the hyper speed and magic speed both first editions and I'm in love. I tried 8n Chicago the meta sky + I love it but can't afford it yet, I'm sticking to my adios pro 2 for now. The hyper speed reminds me of my favorite shoe 3ver the pegasus turbo 2, so i just brought a 2nd pair before those disappear too
I'm planning to buy this shoe and hopefully I could either use Magic Speed or Saucony Endorphin Speed3 as my rotational tempo shoes.. then buy soon an expensive racing carbon plate MetaSpeed Sky Plus.
Largely agree with you except I wish that layer of Flytefoam wasn't there. I feel like making that FF Blast+ would make the shoe ride just a bit better and soften the harshness inherent with that plate placement. Of course, that's just a theory and I do really like the shoe for faster workouts, I just think it could be even better.
@Kofuzi, First of all, I always enjoy your videos and you are one of my top go-to's for honest shoe reviews. I am curious about a more direct comparison between Magic Speed v1 and v2. a) What is the difference in the feel of the ride, toe-off, half-plate vs full plate. I have no problems with the half-plate of Magic Speed v1. I found the full plate of the Endorphin Speed to be too stiff and not allow a natural foot strike/stride. b) 5mm drop vs 7mm drop - Do you feel a difference? I am not a fan of higher drop shoes, so 5mm is usually my max. I can start to feel the difference in 6mm or higher since it changes my foot strike and stride. I tried the Endorphin Speed v1 and the 8mm drop was bad. I even ran a marathon in them and my entire legs (glutes, quads, calves, feet) felt beat up, even though I liked the Pebax midsole. Any extra input would be grateful.
@@xaviergutierrez1331 im a kayano user. I can say the novablast has a stiff heel cup, recessed within that huge chunk of foam that makes up the midsole. Also the midsole has medium height guide rails as well. Im a moderate pronator but no issues with stability so far. Drop wise i think its 8mm vs the 10 mm in kayanos. No issue as well and thats from someone that also runs in altras.
The only downside for me with Speed workout shoes is going from a fast pace to a slow or recovery pace. With the plate and enough foam it feels mehh until you get back up to speed.
I like the v1 . Is the regular bottom layer of FF the same as the one on the new Noosa tri, and how does the ride feel compare with the takumi 8 would be my questions.
What's different if we compare with endorphin speed 3. I think I will buy one of both for run half expected to sub 2. I'm low cadence runner(around 168-172).Thanks in advance.
Great video! It seems that the Magic Speed 2 and Glideride 3 would be the cheaper, slimmed down versions of the MetaSpeeds Edge+/Sky+... or the 5k/10k versions (depending on how you look at it).
@@kofuzi guess they didn't want them treading on each others toes too much. Magic speed a good 5k / 10k/intervals /track session shoe, Nova more uptempo daily with a sprinkle of longer distance fairy dust thrown in for good measure 😁
Magic Speed 2 or Endorphin Speed 3...which would you pick for your speed day shoe, Kofuzi? (obviously you're not in a position where you would pick just one, but if you were...)
I'm a little late to the party with this video! Would you recommend it as a marathon racing shoe for someone who didn't want to stretch to the higher price of the Metaspeed Sky+/Edge+?
If you think you might prefer the Edge Plus, I’d go with this. If you think you might prefer the Sky Plus, the Endorphin Speed 3 might be the better price option
@@philipwood7673 what you end up getting? im stuck between the ms2 and nb3 ? i can only get 1 shoe to do it all. marathon, half, 5k, sprints, walking and standing. 😟 but everyone just runs in them.
To anyone who has ran in the OG Magic Speeds, does this shoe compare or is it a totally different shoe? Trying to decide if I get these or find a clearance pair of the originals. Thanks.
If it‘s my first time to give it a try to asics‘s shoes, can magic speed2 give me a surprise and be my first choice here? Its appearence is so attractive to me and also the updated ff blast...
Hey Kofuzi, how does this compare to the endorphin speed 3? Thinking about upgrading the training shoe. Currently running the Speed 2, but also just got v1 of the metaspeed sky - enjoy them both.
Would the magic speed 2 be a good option for track interval/repeats with good impact protection? Or would there be better options for shoes solely for hard speedwork that have good protection, possibly like the Takumi Sen 8?
Thanks Mike! You say you use it targeting a 5K race but I see in other places this shoe is also mentioned for longer distances. Based on your tests, would you recommend it for half marathon? Target 1h 30m (75kg)
I think it matters not so much your weight or your target pace but if it is a shoe that suits your running gait. for me, it's a quick turnover shoe with a very aggressive rocker. it's more fluid than it is bouncy, which is going to be great for a lot of people but I like bouncy. I think it could be used for racing a half marathon (I assume that's what you mean when you ask if I'd recommend it - training for a half marathon may be a different answer). but it would not be my personal preference. but, for some people that really like a fluid and quick turnover shoe, this may be just what they're looking for. if that explanation doesn't help, I would urge you to go to a running store that has these in stock and try them on the treadmill for a minute at your half marathon pace.
i have been racing in the peg turbo 2, mostly half marathons and i was considering buying the magic speed 2 to be my racer, given the fact that is realy hard to find the super shoes here in Brazil and especially with their price, do you think is a better option than the endrophin speed 2?
I'm considering this one for my rotation. I have the Alphafly, but use the Nike Tempo Next % as my daily trainer/speed work. It's the '3rd' in the nike lineup, but I've raced up to half marathons in them and they feel 'almost like' the Alphafly in terms of speed.
@@kofuzi I recently purchased a pair of NB SC Trainer but can’t decide on what my second pair is to rotate. I run outside for 5-10k daily at moderate speeds (6-6:30 per km). Based on that what would you recommend?
0:27 perfect hahaha. I just bought the Novablast 3, not sure if i'd need this one. And i still got an Endorphin Speed 2, metaspeed sky (not plus) and Endorphin Pro 3 to burn through :)
Is the heal cup padding different in Magic Speed 2? V1 made my heal/achilles bleed in less than 4 miles and I returned the shoe. Hoping there is more padding in the back?
@@kevinstearns32 I really liked how the shoe felt under foot, but at mile 3 into my first run, I could feel the back rubbing my foot. I finished a 6+ Miel run that day, then put in another 3+ miles before quitting on the shoe. I am for-sure ordering the Novablast 3, but still looking for a race shoe replacement for my Saucony Endorphin Speeds (originals) which are still fine, but I am ready for something new. Looking at the Meta Speed Sky and Edge ($$$$) alongside Magic Speed ($$).
@@davidlynch9049 can you share a photo of v2 heal cup and padding - I want to see the padding in the rear of the heal cup? I cannot find a local store that sells ASICS to check the padding area in person. Link to a photo on Dropbox or something?
Mike, do you have any information as to why The Novablast 3 in the Black/Mink is never available on their site? Is it because it is sold out, or are they just holding it back for future release? Thank you!
I’m currently running in the Asics Evoride 3 for my threshold workouts- it’s definitely light and softer than the magic speed 1 (which was way too firm for me) - but how does the magic speed 2 compare to the evoride 3 - I believe they’re the same shoe but only difference is the nylon plate?
If you take nothing else away from this video, please understand that magic speed 1 and magic speed 2 are completely different. Magic Speed 1 was based off the evoride series. Magic Speed 2 is not
Running a half Marathon in Magic Speed 2 or in Novablast 3? I have Shoesize 50.5 (EU) and it is hard to decide. Only the Nike Alphafllys seems better but a bit to expensive. (I have The Novablast3 and Nimbus 24 and love both)
@@kofuzi similar roll? I have real problems with the Saucony Speed 3 on my left foot despite getting on fine with the previous versions. So was hoping these might be better.
it has been about two years since I've run in the Hyperion Tempo, and at the risk of overvaluing nostalgia, I will recommend that one over the Magic Speed 2. The Hyperion Tempo is great for speed work, but the magic speed may be a bit more versatile for daily training. So the answer may depend on what you need from the shoe.
