Oogway: "Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me, nor make it bare fruit before it's time." Shifu: "but there are some things we can control. I can control when the fruit will fall. I can control where to plant the seeds that is no illusion." Oogway: "Ah. But no matter what you do, that seed will grow into a peach tree. You may wish for an apple, or an orange, but you will get a peach."

leopard eye Exactly. All five have a point, and all five have drawbacks. One many agree with one color more than the other four, but one must admit that the other four have something to say, even if you have to say "even a broken clock is right twice a day" in order to put yourself in the headspace to hear it.
@GacLosen6556

To add to what's already been said, each color represents parts of the human psyche. Too much of any one color will create deficiencies, and every color when taken to their fullest extreme causes suffering and disaster in their wake. What's important is that even if you firmly identify with one color is to recognize when that color's philosophy fails and when another must step in. I consider myself firmly mono-red, but I don't believe in anarchy or acting solely on impulse and without thinking things through. I just want people to be honest with themselves and their emotions, and make decisions that make them happy rather than decisions that make complete logical sense or conforms to a law for the sake of the law or the logic. But I don't want people to hurt each other or themselves, either. It's a complicated thing to look at and understand, but my point is that taking any color to their extreme is always a bad idea.
@glitch3141
@glitch3141 6 лет назад
I often hear people saying: "This color is stupid", or "This color pairing is the worst", and I don't think that's the right way to look at these. These videos are about philosophy, and no single color or color pairing's philosophy is inherently bad. Flawed? Absolutely. Taken to excess, Green's placid attitude is just as terrible as White's totalitarianism, or Black's utter ruthlessness. But every color has both heroes and villains, and it's important to see what each color has that the others don't. Green has what it needs, and it knows what it is. No other color has that.

I love Green's philosophy, but I can also use it against itself: if everyone needs to follow their instincts, what if Black's instincts are telling it to be selfish, and Blue's are telling it to advance technology? ^^

long post incoming Tl;dr(not meant to be people, but a voice to the ideal, also interview for the sake of understanding all color views) I think the main issue isn't the why, it's the how. While green accepts death like black and acknowledges the way the world works like blue, she takes issue with separating oneself from systems. Black sees the survival of the fittest, but ignores symbiosis, and natural end, and would rather take, essentially separating himself from the world in attempts to never be the prey, be the top of the food chain, forever, and (in green's view selfishly ignore his body telling him to stop living due to decaying cells and aging body) stay alive forever. in green's world all things die and are reborn, in black's all things kill eachother to avoid death. she also appreciates blue's desire to seek knowledge, to understand the world, but takes offense at his need to control it. green would solve a problem by becoming stronger herself, helping the world by giving the "problem" it's own challenge to overcome in exchange, to adapt, to accept the world as a whole becoming stronger on its own terms. blue would make his life easier by changing the world around him rather than himself, to stifle the problem, keep the world down, to manipulate, to reject the world in favor of his own, never face a problem again, tell the world how to be stronger rather than let it grow. a green world knows itself in and out and exists and changes on its own, a blue world has a master that knows all and changes it on command. it comes down to a few things, order/freedom, self/community, and destiny/control remember these are a personification of the colors rather than mere people, metaphors. when "green" is talking about "blue" and "black" it isn't applying to one person. and B. these are differing ideals, of course there is some discussion to be had, this is merely a diplomatic and neutral way to present each colors case
@KinamOfMyth
@KinamOfMyth 6 лет назад
Silverslipstream; Yes, I completely understand the personification of all creature represented by that color, aswell as the concept of each color being an extreme example of its ideals. Green is actually my favorite. What I'm attempting to get across is that regardless of wich one we agree with most, none are perfect and none are completely wrong either. I just love the deep discussion we're able to have about essentially a simple passtime^^ All that said and somewhat off topic, I'm curious on what you think about Green/Blue/Black working together. I main Green/White/Black myself so I like seeing opposites mix to create something that works.
@Silver_light77
@Silver_light77 6 лет назад
KinamOfMyth Sorry, the video had me thinking so deep i forgot about the card game. I apologize if my statements made it sound like i was pro-green to the point of antagonism, I get they are all flawed, and it definitely makes it better that way, these videos are really well made, addressing the misinformation and making things concise rather than promoting an agenda and asking people to take a stance. again long post ahead hmm, b/u/g is very interesting, (its my favorite game mechanic wise) it evokes the thought of "black" using a "blue" way of controlling natural systems (green) in sultai those on top are manipulative and vicious, they lie cheat and kill eachother to maintain control, but they do so to maintain the sultai brood, everybody wants to be in charge but nobody wants to abandon the system. their leader must be strong, vicious, willing to do anything to survive, otherwise their collective would suffer. on the bottom, though, the average joe is next to worthless, unless he can prove himself to be better than the undead thrall (or sibsig) they could make out of him. It encourages the strengths of green, but executed in a blue/black way. their mechanic, delve (less so exploit as that is silumgar's influence devoid of green) manipulates the death cycle, what black and blue consider unnecessary is cut out of your graveyard, and the rest reoccurs in a very green black way, making sure survival of the fittest is applied after death and undeath as well. gwb is pretty cool too, (i know i keep going back to khans, but that really was the best showing of enemy pairs) the abzhan green and black acknowledge the bleak harshness of the world and fight to survive, but do so together as a khan. black and white's necromancy is more spirit based, learning from the dead rather than controlling them. they only care for their own needs, fight to survive, and maintain the greater good of their ancestry, which is a very black way of viewing a green white community. outlast as an ability only makes a single creature stronger, but many creatures have effects that apply to anything with a +1/+1 counter, or replace a dead creature with a spirit. meaning when one becomes stronger, they all do, and when they die, they are never really gone, but if you aren't abzhan screw you.
@KinamOfMyth
@KinamOfMyth 6 лет назад
Silverslipstream; No problem, I just wanted to make sure what I was trying to say was clear. ^^ I think I understand. So similar to Simic's method of having blue manipulate green's ability, Sultai's black combines that with trickery and necromancy. And yes, I love how Bolster buffs the weakest creature on your side of the field, implying that when they fight together, they make sure everyone is just as strong as eachother, a very white way of thinking. It's similar to the Six Samurai in Duel Monsters where they can't use their special abilities unless they have one of their allies with them, and have several ways of special summoning to do so. Learning from their ancestors is also an aspect I love. Defense, unity, and wisdom. Abzan in a nutshell. (No offense to Josh, but I feel the themesong picked for them could've been better)

As much as I love Green' philosophy, there is only one fatal flaw with it involving humans that connects with Blue. We instinctively learned to make tools and because it helped us survive, we kept doing it. Those who made the better tools lived on- Survival of the fittest. By saying humans shouldn't use technology takes away one of the important things that make humans special. Amazing video, I can not wait to see who comes next.
@joinmarch76

Personally, I think Green's mostly mad at Blue because via his handiwork, man was able to outsmart nature. Think about it, man has outmaneuvered prey, predators, and was able to harness almost all the elements in Magic the Gathering...except Green. That being said, I understand where Green's coming from, at least a little. After all, it's one thing to adapt and evolve as only man believes he can, but now he's just bullying nature when there's far better ways to survive the forces nature gives us. But we're getting off-topic.

Slivers are a race of artificially made creatures in MtG that threatened to kill everything, imagine snakes with arms that are stupidly hard to kill, breed explosively and have a hive like social structure.
@joinmarch76
@joinmarch76 6 лет назад
So, mecha-nagas? That...actually sounds kinda cool. Besides, Blue seems to be more the element that harnesses the aspect of humanity referring to both his ability to create and to adapt. That being the case, he'd be prone to experimentation, and dabbling in things that may (or may not in this case) fully understand the consequences for. Besides, I stand by my main point: That being that Blue managed to outsmart the nature that Green treasures so much, hence the enemy list. Though, it's kinda ironic that she hates Blue of all people, since Blue is water; a main building block of nature.
@Silver_light77
@Silver_light77 6 лет назад
I think that's where the color pairs come in to play, no one color means only one thing, some even overlap. blue also has footholds in freedom and instability, with many air/water based creatures. It's that freedom that gives blue the kind of splendor, to be free from the harshness of nature, to be above other creatures mentally or magically, a lot of blue "monsters" would be "green" nature wise, like whales, krakens, birds, drakes, elementals. Kind of funny how much of a paradox blue is, most of its magic is all about control, the thinkers and mages seek to know and control, but blue as an element, its 'monsters', and races, like fairies and merfolk, constantly act freely and evade understanding.

I'm not a green player, I'm actually against its philosophy, but a very huge and nteresting point any green player can make is that mages always start drawing mana from the land, and the reason green can get more mana and stronger creatures faster is because they focus on that land, respect it, connect to it like Nissa. Green in its lore is VERY much so preaching a valid way to become more strong as a magic user

The problem with Green’s ideology is that technology is a factor born of nature. Man adapted to be the smartest, then took the pieces nature gives us to fashion tools. These tool make us the dominate species. That mean nature has to adapt to US as much as we adapt to nature. Technically isn’t exclusive to nature, it is merely another piece of the puzzle that she chooses to ignore. It is not an “outside force.”
@Ixmore

I once entertained the idea of a fan Green/Colorless faction that opposes the Guilds of Ranvica that embraces that same idea and its' ability focus on boosting the effects of equipment. After all, how is building a house, using a tool, ect. any different than a bird Building a nest. In fact, I would love to see a Color/Colorless faction in MTG.

I can understand where you're coming from. However, I disagree with where you went with it. Yes, a higher awareness and intellect is a natural adaptation humans developed for survival. And Green agrees with that. Other species like wolves and dolphins also developed a higher intellect and applied that to more complex and advanced hunting patterns. Other creatures will build structures for protection from the elements and use stones as tools to access food. Where humans strayed from Green is that we take more than what we need. We adversely effect nature in a way that upsets the balance. We destroy swaths of forest to grow food where it naturally wouldn't be. We demolish the landscape to harvest ores and metals to create unnatural modes of transportation. We take more than our share and manipulate our surroundings without regard for the environment. Standard Black/Blue. What Green proposes is living in harmony with nature rather than trying to dominate it. To fill our role as either predator or prey without upsetting the balance. The strong survive. And thus the cycle continues.

@andnowwevibe270
@andnowwevibe270 5 лет назад
Not really a problem with Green's ideology. Green is appealing to a loosely defined standard of being 'natural', not suggesting that everything that emerges from nature or natural instincts is desirable or ideal. See a lot of people getting this wrong Green simply thinks that if you "play by nature's rules" and don't try to outsmart nature, your instincts will reward yourself and the collective whole. It thinks that something being dominant in a way that nature can adapt to is good, and that something being dominant in a way that it can't adequately adapt to and in a way that's detrimental to the greater system is bad

I just want to point out the subtle touch that the artist did when they made the designs of the colors and how their allies are all represented. Green has a flower on her head, with red petals in the center and white petals on the outside. She also wears white slippers and has red eyes. Black has red eyes and wears a blue shirt under his coat. Red has a black hood and green fingerless gloves. Blue has rings that are white and black on his fingers. White has blue eyes, and her flaps and sleeves are light green. It's a nice touch.

Green - "I appreciate Blue's search for knowledge. Blue takes the time to look around and admire Nature. Even more so than White. What I positively loathe about that is that once Blue gets his bony little fingers on sources of the knowledge he so desperately craves, Blue wants to break it and make it into something else. Blue's ego is so strong that for some reason, he has to prove that he can do it better than Nature and do it better than anyone else!" Elder Maxson - "Millions. . . perhaps even billions, died because science outpaced man's restraint. They called it a new 'Frontier' and 'Pushing the Envelopes,' completely disreguarding the repercussions. Can't you see the same thing is happening again?!"

Notice how Green prattles on and on about how she has "found the answer" but never actually says what that answer IS?
@jamescollette1296
@jamescollette1296 6 лет назад
I believe Green is "saying" that the answer is to let things happen as they are and let it continue to be. Which is like a brainwashed stoicism. It's not just horribly naive, but extremely dangerous when left unchecked. This "kid" would let a wildfire rage because to act on it would be hypocritical to her beliefs. Black was right. Nature left unchecked is full of suffering.
@Silver_light77
@Silver_light77 6 лет назад
James Collette but that is also according to very human, or "blue" values. we fear the wildfire because it will destabilize us, take our home, our things, our control, our lives. did you know that most wildlife preserves actually let wildfires go to an extent if they were caused by lightning storms, because putting them out leaves half dead trees and too much water? obviously if it gets close to human boundaries they curb it, but they dont have to fight harder, because "nature" has a plan, in this case, the fire was started because of a storm, which is also causing rain, sputtering the fire and keeping it under control, sure animals and plants might die, but taking inspiration of Blacks philosophy, they weren't fast or hardy enough to survive. fire also creates ash, which is amazing fertilizer (unsuprisingly, dead animal and plant cells in powder form for the earth to reclaim) Only when some human using fire they created using technology (loosly, for Green, rubbing two sticks together to ignite is considered unnatural, "those branches grew to avoid that very thing in life, because they have evolved not to catch themselves on fire"), on a bright sunny day or cloudless night, and it gets left alone (Smokey the bear style) does it threaten the ecosystem, because there is no warning lightning storm for creatures to hide or run, no rain to save the trees, just human consequence tearing an ecosystem asunder.
@Lunacorva
@Lunacorva 6 лет назад
And that's the folly of Green. It thinks nature is all about balance. But the SECOND someone is actually good at the very thing nature is ACTUALLY about: Survival of the fittest, that balance comes crashing down. The strongest predator gets the spoils. Human ingenuity has made us the strongest predator and now Green is whining because she's not the top of the food chain. But rather than raising herSELF up so that she can compete with us, she petulantly sulks and whines that we should lower ourselves to HER level.
@Necroskull388

Great survival instinct, bud. (/Sarcasm) It should be noted that the things Green has a problem with when it comes to Blue, Blue actually can solve (or is at least attempting to.) Pollution - finding cleaner energy sources. Creating Diseases - finding the cures to the damage being caused Cities destroying forests - Creating cohabitation areas for wildlife and limiting where expansions occur. Much of what Green is griping about is being solved. Let's see her act as quickly and responsibly. By my count, Blue is being far more responsible while Green simply whines.

Mr.13 Which is quite ironic, given how slave morality is based on resentment, and Green's goal of acceptance implies lack of resentment (it is never a predator's fault to follow their instincts, so there is no point on taking it personally). That is how it seems.
@Mister-Thirteen
@Mister-Thirteen 6 лет назад
True but slave morality is also partially an act of mimicry; mimicking the linguistic trick that creates a Master Morality via statements such as "It good to be king" in order to make the weak value their weakness. Green's acceptance of Slave morality is due to it being utterly complacent with the application of it and so is unable to come to terms either logically or emotionally with the idea that the very notion of passive acceptance is born of those that benefit from your acceptance of your role. The one connection green will never admit to is the one between its ideal and role those ideals play in being made a salve to those who hold master morality. Green makes itself subservient to the surrounding ecology & calls this prison "enlightenment".
@Mister-Thirteen
@Mister-Thirteen 5 лет назад
I know this might be thread Necromancy, but hey....Black. One thing I thinks is telling about Green's philosophy is that she assumes both her position "Wisdom" and those she observes "ignorance". She assumes all the colors are trying to change the world, but black seeks only to maximize survival in it & Red merely reacts to it. She asserts a selective naturalistic fallacy when defending her view but than quickly forgets it when haphazardly classifying her opposition. Green's slave morality is manifest in her ability to engage in sophistry when her faith is challenged; a trait she shares with white.

I think that the Wedges is less 3 colors working together and more a color acting as a check to it’s enemies. In the case of Sultai, Green attempts to ground Blue and Black and keep them from becoming too unnatural.

I want to discuss green in it’s two ally pairings,those being Gruul and Selesnya, and what is the dynamic between each of the colors in these pairings.First off would be the Gruul clan.The Gruul are usually summarize by their motto “Not Gruul then die”,yet that is not the case for Gruul.Looking at Gruul seeing red and green together may lead you to the concept of being of being wild and free,but it’s more than that.Gruul’s true philosophy is being free for the sake of growth.Red gives Green freedom to do what it wants and Green uses it to grow and develop faster.This means that freedom allows someone to be stronger because they can unleash their full potential more naturally and faster.This is why this pair despises white and blue.White gives laws that hinder a persons growth because of the restrictions,while blue uses unnatural means to acquire growth like experimentation and other stuff.Gruul isn’t just aggression but it’s the purest form of unhindered and natural growth for a person.To segway,Growth is Selesnya’s main goal.Though unlike Gruul that focuses on individual growth,Selesnya focuses on communal growth.Selenya’s motto is basically is “One For All”.Though much like Gruul it’s much deeper than that.Selesnya wants growth not for itself but for the community,it doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice oneself to help the community.White gives the concept that your just part of the community so do what ever it takes,Green adds to that by showing importance and a purpose to a person.White also grants order which allows Green’s wild side to be more time.This pair detest red and black.Red leads to chaos in the community leading to the hindering of growth.Black focuses more on himself more than anything else which is a direct contradiction to this pairings beliefs. Selesnya wants growth but not growth for oneself but growth for a community for us to be more powerful together without any unnecessary sacrifices.In summary these two pairings look for growth in either community or an individual,but in the end they focus on one thing natural strength without any forms unnatural means. Nice Work The Fiery Joker Keep it Up:)

Great to see another of these. Anyway, I like nature, but I am probably more blue than green about it, wanting to see what we can learn and then how we can use it, though I am very much for sustainable methods. I'm also not a fan of predeterminism. I'd like to think I can decide for myself what my role is. And if green has a problem with that, well, just a shame that my nature I guess :)

@Mister-Thirteen
@Mister-Thirteen 6 лет назад
All of the colors are extremely complex ideals. Blue is logic, reasoning and induction. Blue is also water and wind the ocean and the sky. Blue is technology and Arcana. Blue is perfection through knowledge. At its core Blue has all kinds of tools at its beck and call. Telepathy, Telekinesis, Artifice, Arcana, Illusion, Temporal manipulation, Hydromancy, Areomancy, Cyrokinesis, Shape-shifting etc... And that's before we mix blue with other colors.
@Mister-Thirteen
@Mister-Thirteen 6 лет назад
By the way. Red and Blue both have artifice elements to them. Blue is the mechanical genesis who's mind works like a computer to solve the problem. img.scryfall.com/cards/normal/en/vma/82.jpg?1517813031 Red is the inspired inventor who creates new solutions to the problem. img.scryfall.com/cards/normal/en/c14/35.jpg?1517813031
@antitheist3206
@antitheist3206 6 лет назад
Mr.13 At no point did I mention complexity, or lack thereof for that matter. I brought up the obvious connection of the core aesthetic of both colors (red being chaotic and blue preferring logic and reason) to a base element, of which only red fit their associated element (chaos with fire) while blue simply didn't (lucidity and technological innovation aren't usually tied to water, ice, or wind, the immediate connective elements of blue; that's more connected to earth, metal, or lightning when those are used). You've taken the conversation on a completely different tangent.

@genius11433
@genius11433 6 лет назад
Snowmon89 Oh. Why do you hate White so?
@Snowmon89
@Snowmon89 6 лет назад
The same reason as why I dislike Green. "I am right and I cannot possibly be wrong. You just *know* what is right so why not just do it. But if your idea of right and wrong aren't the same as mine, then you're EVIL!!!!" I hate dealing with people who believe that they're so right that they have no need to know WHY past "It just is" or "because I said so." I grew up in an environment like that. It's crazy to me now, especially when I got out into the real world and realized that the world isn't quite so black and white as that. There is a lot of grey area and sometimes there is no "right" answer, others there's multiple "right" answers. For example, I've been given quite a number of gifts from a certain relative of mine. Everything was fine, until I decided to refuse these gifts. Despite I said, "no thank you", she began shoving these gifts down my throat. Even essentially called me "wrong", sometimes even downright "evil" for refusing her kindness. It really screwed me up for quite a while, Despite I did my best to be as polite as possible to this relative, my own family still thinks that I'm a horrible person thanks to her sick twisted idea of "kindness". That's how I view White. I despise the very concept of "it's for "your own good" or the "greater good". People have DIED over the tyranny and masks of that mindset about kindness. At least Green understands the concept of "Balance". That's probably the only reason I like her more than White. She knows that Black has a purpose in the world, even if her idea of "keep it natural" is a bit far too "religious" in nature…… um… no pun intended. I also do sympathize with her views on Blue, though. Even Black and White acknowledged that he tends to take things a bit too far as well. (Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't get notifications.)
