Melghat tiger reserve was among the first 9 Protected Areas that were declared as a Tiger Reserve as per the Project Tiger in 1973. With an area close to 3000 sq kms Melghat Tiger Reserve is one of the largest Tiger reserve of India.
With a difficult hilly terrain the forest department faces a lot of challenges while managing the Tiger reserve. This story gives an insiders account on how the forest department in Melghat is managing the park with the available resources and the Elephant team of Melghat stationed at Kolkas.
The exploration of Melghat will be revealing the ecology of various species of wild animals especially : greater racket tailed drongo, yellow footed green pigeon, Tigers. Along with the surprise sitings of other large mammals.
Part 1 : Elephant Safari - It will cover the Elephant Safari at Kolkas range in Melghat Tiger Reserve, with an inside account of safari and interaction with the elephant handlers or mahouts.
Part 2 : Jungle Safari - It will cover the jungle safari in open vehicle inside the core area of Melghat along with the interaction with the forest ranger and nature guide.
