Reminds me of the time me and my brother went backpacking into Cougar Canyon, near the Cogswell Reservoir. It was 2 day journey. Didn't see a single soul out there the entire time. We had to duck our way through miles of overgrown trail. Found the ruins of an old picnic area. So much bush-wacking and dense brush that when we made it out of the canyon and the trail was clear, my mind and body was still wincing at the shadows of leaves and branches coming towards me. It's like the brush got burned into my mind. I even had the visuals persist as I was driving out the forest on highway 2.
That sounds wild! I'm not sure which one cougar canyon is, but I've taken the trail shortcut saddle down to the west fork and bushwhacked out to Cogswell in late 2018 I think. I didn't see anyone for ~20 miles the whole day. When I got to the reservoir, it was completely empty but the canyon walls were pretty wild and I actually got to right behind the dam. This was before I was making videos and a little after I moved to the LA area. I still have some pictures of that day and I remember it well. I'm not sure if it's opened yet due to the bobcat fire, but I love that area. I'd say that the delta that leads to the reservoir is pretty similar to this area.
I'm not going to say exactly how I got to the canyon at the end. I'm keeping that one secret. I wish there was more water though. It took a lot of effort to get to and there was very little flow.
@@vicsol1000 yeah, I think parts of it have gotten worse too, especially near Josephine falls, I went a few times last year and it was a little better then
I won't share the route or where to start, some of the terrain is pretty dangerous now which I expect will deter people, a lot of this is already on line (there are a bunch of crazy canyoneering videos)
I very much agree with this. There is virtually no graffiti and if reservoir levels and conditions are just right it can be quite a cool little secret hunt spot.
@@TheRoamingHazard When I make these videos, there are spots I keep secret but at my own discretion (like I didn't share where the thermal spring was in a recent video). If there are hidden spots you'd like me to keep secret I won't say where they are or make videos about them. There are already a few on my list, but it's different when I've already made a video about it. Also, this spot has been on the internet long before I started posting videos. On occasion I will take videos down, but it's usually for lesser know, more secluded spots.
I just randomly stumbled across this video today and would love to know where the starting point is in comparison to trail canyon falls! that's the only waterfall ive been to in tujunga.
It's just down the road from the Fall Creek trail. I don't want to post the exact location and it's very over grown and unstable in parts now (which I don't really show in the video). If you're looking into exploring the area, I suggest doing the hike to Fall Creek. There is a stack of ~4 waterfalls, and you can walk down on the fire road and then you can hike along the creek a short distance to the base of the lowest tier, which is really nice. The hike to Fall Creek is shorter than Trail Canyon Falls, but requires rock hopping along the creek at the end to get to the waterfall, which isn't really all that bad. If you got further down stream from the Fall Creek waterfalls, you'll get to this area eventually, although some parts are pretty overgrown now.
Dang, too bad it's too hot for my liking otherwise I'd love to do this in spring! Only real con I see is that there seems to be little to no shade! :( Definitely a lots of water type of hike.
Yeah, there are shady spots but a lot of it can be sunny (especially towards the reservoir). The real issue is how over grown and unstable some of this area is at the moment.
The videos of the upper tiers look pretty wild. I've gone up that fire road near trail canyon falls and seen some of them from a distance, but I haven't tried to make it down to them yet. There's a chance you'll need some canyoneering gear, but I bet that drone videos would get the job done too if it's hard to access directly.
that's unfortunate, I've seem broken glass in the area near some parking areas, I haven't seen a bunch of graffiti here but certainly at Monkey Canyon and Hidden Springs, I guess for me there's noting really valuable in my car so I haven't had my windows broken, I don't usually park for more than a couple of hours
@@Oldguy-k3t not a bad idea, I'm usually armed to some extent, the most dangerous thing I've run into are mother bears with cubs, mountain lions, and aggressive off leash dogs, it only takes one shady person with bad intentions
sure, I won't tell anyone where the trail head is, it's also super washed out and over grown in parts so I can't imagine a tour of people going here, also, except for the last spot, these are all already on the internet (the last one is sort of on the internet on canyoneering sites but not really so I didn't say where that was)
@@MtnGeorge13 also, in it's current state, I don't think most people would even get down without getting scratched up quite a bit, I didn't show how overgrown and unstable this area is
