And even thought the tree is no longer ‘alive’, in its death it is feeding bugs and providing shelter to the little creatures in the Forrest. Another spiritual connection video to enjoy. Thank you.

Thank you so much Kim for giving a sense of honour to the story of the fallen tree in the way that you did. I really appreciate that. I don't feel so weird on my own now! Hahahahha. So much goodness from a wander in the woodland. What a joy. I'm left with a huge smile on my face after having seen this video. Let the inner kids come out and play in us all!!! Love it.

Wonderful video! I have always been fascinated with old fallen trees. First, I feel a sense of loss for the old soul, then a sense of wonder to think of all of the things that must have taken place in its branches... all of the generations that were raised in its shelter. So wonderful!

Kim, always look forward to seeing your weekly video notification pop up. For now I continue to be working seven days a week so how awesome to have your videos to take me out into the woods for a diversion... and to inspire me for the time when I can get out into our local woodlands again. Love the photo of the old tree... what beautiful patterns. I love trees and how they make our environment so wonderful. Have a great week Kim! I look forward to seeing you next Sunday for our afternoon walk . Peace, Donna

Absolutely love your channel. I always tell people the more you look, the more you see. There is just so much around us that we never see as we rush through our busy lives! It’s nice for me to see that I’m not the only one who feels such a full heart when I’m out in nature. It is absolutely magic! You inspire me to be better in my macro and compositions. Thank you so much for sharing.

What a joy to watch Kim. I know exactly where you are. Inner child, my playground as a child 50 years ago now. It's changed but still beautiful. You need to go back in the Autumn the bit up near the buildings the ground turns golden with leaves from a tree there. The first time I seen it I was lost for words, a truly macial place with a lot of history attached to it..... Bb.. X

@kimgrantphotography I could print that image and place it in my room where relaxation and meditation happens. Very cool how since you put landscape photography on a shelf for an undetermined length of time, you seem more bubbly. I got in the van and went out to shoot some images in a woodland near my house right after I was done watching this video. Thank you! Keep your videos coming.

I was on vacation in Kelowna British Columbia in late June 2023, taking photos from Mount Knox on the north end of the city. From that elevated position I was photographing places across Lake Okanagan with my 150-600mm lens... now after the wildfires tore through West Kelowna and that whole west side of Lake Okanagan... I've realized that I now have photographs of very expensive luxury homes that no longer exist, that were burned to the ground by wildfires.

@@kimgrantphotography If you were to take the ferry to isle of Bute .. then drive up to Rhubodach ,then take short crossing to Colintraive .. then take the A886 on the left there is the old road .that takes you along Kyles and Loch Ruel then it rejoins the main rd .. as you proceed up take the B836 To Dunoon .. 16 miles tho the road comes out at the back of the Holy Loch ... it's a single track rd with stunning views it takes you around the top of loch striven there is also a public footpath 4 mile plus to Glen Striven , .. I would have done it in a quicker time if i wasn't stopping every so often to take pics .. I cycled it ..

I too went out looking for fungi to photograph but there were none to be found. Maybe because the woodlands here are not ancient but relatively new as they have been planted on reclaimed land. On the plus side I did find inspiration in a heavy dew that offered fantastic opportunities and I was really pleased and surprised to catch two fleeting glimpses of a beautiful kingfisher, sadly it was gone before I could raise my camera. I did though really connect with nature as a number of horseflies decided that I made a very tasty meal and I do have the scars to prove it. As always thank you for the inspiration and motivation.

Thank you for sharing your experience Barry. It's great to hear you were able to get out and enjoy nature. I worked out a few days afterwards making this video that it has been very dry for a few weeks. Fungi like damp weather. We've had a lot more fungi this week with the rain. Hope you find some near you soon too Enjoy!

I find it interesting that, since you declared that you were moving away from "traditional landscape photography," your images in the genre that I, at least, would consider traditional landscape photography have taken a quantum leap forward. Perhaps it came from freeing yourself from a too-narrow internalized idea of what that genre _should_ comprise? In a way, maybe it fits together with what you were talking about. Maybe viewing through a camera lens helps us to switch off our left-brained "rational" control and allows our intuition/perception the freedom to see what we would otherwise ignore? (I would add that I got a bit of PTSD from your description of what it must have been like when that tree fell. As someone who lives in a place in the American "north woods" where we have had giant trees like that - or portions of them - fall on our house during storms, I know exactly what that experience sounds and feels like, and have no desire to go through it again!)
@kimgrantphotography
@kimgrantphotography 10 месяцев назад
Very thought provoking questions. Thank you for sharing. Yes - I believe I am freeing myself from the box I felt I was in and allowing myself to connect with landscapes in new ways. I've been surrounded by traditional landscape images and inspiration for many years (iconic scenes, foreground middle ground and background, only photographing around golden hours etc). I am now allowing myself to go out at all times of day and look as smaller aspects of the landscape, rather than the vistas and epic light. I have always seen that to be the normal definition of landscape photography. I'd now identify myself as a nature photographer as this includes everything I love to connect with and prevents the box from forming in my mind. Macro, abstract and wildlife now play the biggest part in my imagery so I feel I am moving away from landscapes, although I of course will still create landscape images when I feel called to do so. I am sorry to hear you experienced that. I can only imagine how it has affected you. I certainly felt some fear amougst the wonder I felt when I saw the tree. It opened my eyes to the power of nature. I sincerely hope you never experience anything like that again.
