1) How did you enjoy Javier's performance? Entertaining, fooling, and hey it seems he has overcome his anxiety! 👍 2) Download the Phone2 app here and get a second, digital phone number! ➠ bit.ly/PHONE2MAGIC
This was an excellent trick and he's a likable guy. But, the "Spanish mentalist" shtick is annoying after about the 10th time. I dd find it odd that he made a point of picking up the Orange card and therefore highlighting that there were only 5 colors to choose from.
I’m not even watching the show Fool Us anymore. Now, I just wait for you to react to it, so I can just enjoy both the trick and your reaction for the first time, AT the same time. 🤗
Wow.. that is crazy.. i just had a panic attack 1 month ago.. and i started magic as a terapy.. what a crazy world.. i am not alone!!! I also went ot hospital 2 times.. with cronic anxiety.. man that is me 1 month ago.. WHAT? hahahahaha.. what a coincidence.. that is crazy
I loved Javier's performance, it was fun and well crafted and the whole "Ole!" thing was clearly making the audience love him. I don't care how he did it. I just love the fact that he DID it. I have struggled with panic attacks myself and I have so much admiration for him. His has not been an easy journey and he deserves success.
Regarding the anxiety, the same sort of thing happened to Michael Ball. He started off playing Marius in "Les Miserables" in London and ended up having lots of anxiety attacks which resulted in him leaving the show. Later on, he played Raoul in "The Phantom of the Opera" in London after Michael Crawford and Steve Barton went to the Broadway version, and he played Marius in the 10th Anniversary Concert for Les Mis.
There's also ABC news anchor Dan Harris, who famously had a panic attack during a live segment on Good Morning America. He returned to air and also became a big advocate for meditation.
I think you should record a reaction to Shawn's newest reaction to you, but perhaps only post it if you afterwards feel like you've added enough new commentary. I assume you will watch it anyway so why not record it as you do and if you feel like you didn't have much to say you can just delete your footage and it barely costs you any extra time.
5:31 you said you thought him saying this act is a part of therapy and you thought it was a joke, that made me laugh out loud. No, I honestly think he was being serious. Panic attacks SUCK! I've had a few and been thinking about how to deal with anxiety/fear/panic/depression and wondering if inducing fear would help me get used to it. Nothing traumatic of course, only things that I know are safe and I can work on identifying it as merely a feeling.
I think he was neither joking, nor serious. It was just an exaggerated statement about his progress (exaggerated either because he's actually long been cured or because he knows that this won't be the end of his struggle) for his intro.
@@strechsanchez As a panic attack owner, i will tell you that its not only in your head. You are hyperventilating, you have heart beat going through the roof, your different parts of the body start shaking etc. It really feels like ur dying and having a stroke or w/e. Feels like your going to collapse or have seizure any moment.
XD another reaction to Shawn wouldn't be as interesting as seeing BOTH of you react to Fool Us at the same time ;) Or any other excuse to get you two to video-chat or otherwise work together :b I really liked your book disappearing into magic smoke :)
This is one of my favorite performances. I love it when the crowd is involved. The fact that his volunteer handing out the cards and mixed them really added to the trick.
What a great act! I thought for sure something was funny with the envelopes but was wrong. I'm really happy for him and really happy he got over his panic attacks too.
I think the moral is: She wanted to reach to something she is not, so she needed to change her whole self to make the man love her... But deep inside she still had a part that wanted to stay true to her inner self and hence she chased the mouse. One should not change into something one is not, just for another ones oppinion. Sorry for mistakes in my english :)
Hi Jason, I'm living with GAD for about 20 years now. I also was a totally normal, functional guy. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a panic attack happened. But, I didn't seek help, instead I was so scared of it, that I started to avoid everything that I thought would trigger a panic attack. Which of course made things worse. It was only when I didn't leave my apartment anymore, that I finally looked for help. The "do what caused your attack" approach is called "confrontanional therapy" and is very successful in lighter stages of anxiety disorders. Like the fear of spiders as the most famous example. Your body and brain slowly learn that nothing really happens and the alarm signal (the panic attack) is not needed. In the end you overcome your fears. With a heavier case like mine it fails, however. I have a few tricks at hand (thanks to my therapist) to calm myself down, when the alarm bell starts to ring, but I'll never get rid of it. I sometimes think of me as being weaker than guys like Javier. I know that it isn't true, but it feels like it. They are brave, where I just breakdown.
Like Spock, I found the Matador Magician’s performance “fascinating”. Fable: you can’t change a person’s basic nature. So, be very aware that if you marry someone, don’t think you can change them for long, as their true nature will eventually win out.
I really enjoyed his performance and it hands down one of my favorites. The messages and story he shared was also powerful too. When I watched the episode on TV I was also looking forward to watching your reacts video. Thanks!!
Great performance! ****** They were careful to hold the envelops by the edges. The painting was the reason, he could line up the the last three in order. * Panic attack. It is not a joke. Once I had it from weed "skunk". From a mg. I was to die. Ambulance took me to hospital. I had to wait in the emergency room, to be the last one to be called. The door was open to the street. My bus stopped in every 15 minutes. I felt scared to death from the idea of getting on the bus. After 3-4 hours it was over. ..... I feel for this man, for having it for so long!
The show should be called Wow Us more than Fool Us. I bet Penn and Teller knew how he did it (I think I also do, except some details). I believe Penn says it in code (half of it). Of course, when they go on stage they already know that the envelopes have nothing strange. Anyway, great act!
This is a reaction to commentary on a comment in commentary on the video by Shawn Farquar reacting to A Magician reacts to a Magician reacting to a reacting Magician reacting to Shawn Farquar reacting to a Magician reacting to Shawn Farquhar on Penn & Teller. 😓
Did not look like that to me. Penn asked if they could examine the envelopes and did it quite hesitant at first. Enough time for the magician to say "ok, I think I haven't fooled you".
The only thing I noticed was that he didn't follow the painting when he placed the woman -- or at least that's my opinion. For me, the painting has a woman in the middle and the "with the rose" is actually a guy... I have no idea whether that's significant, though.
I don’t know if you noticed but the color choice was forced, he had only 6 colors on the floor, and he had multiple papers of each color but the orange one which he picked up to make us think there’s more than 5 colors(notice how there’s no more orange paper on the floor and how there’s only 5 different colors) . So this solves the color trick, now for the whole trick I believe each color’s paper had a slightly different size or maybe thickness?
I have seen Javier Botia perform live in 2018 Busan FISM. He won champion of mentalist and invention award. That means he creat this method and recognized by best magic competition judges in the world.
And also yeah i watched the live premiere of his latest reaction video... you guys work well together.... Maybe for your P&T performance you can have him do a reaction to it live then have him come out after?
One key part is when he dismisses the only orange card with a joke. Very few different colours left onto the ground... And this Tyler seems suspicious though, he is the one manipulating the envelopes with weird glasses people never question, and seems to make funny body signs at some points when El Mentalisto has to place the guests. By a curious chance, Tyler is seated at the far right next to El Magico...Just food for thoughts, maybe I am off track 🙂
Electronics are often placed in those types of chairs. Similar chairs are used by mentalists to give electrical stimulation shocks to do other types of tricks. If you noticed, the instruction was to pick up 5 different color cards. There are only 5 different colors; thus all the colors were picked up. The back of each chair has a loop antenna for reading RFID chips, which is connected to a micro-controller circuit. The massive surface area of the back of the chair allows a loop antenna of sufficient size to read RFID chips at considerable distances (up to a couple of feet). Each colored paper has a thin metal foil antenna, which is electrically connected to a electronic chip (about 1 mm square) which contains information to the identity of the color. The instruction was to hold the paper up in the vertical position. The reason for this is to make the loop antenna in the seat back parallel to the loop antenna in the piece of paper, which allow maximum radio signal reception. Loop antennas are directional, which allow signals to be maximally received in specific orientations (ex. animals radio collars locators). The microcontrollers (for example an Arduino board) in each chair send the identity of each paper by blue tooth to the computer behind the picture. The picture has a subtle clues, manipulated by the micro-controller, which tells the mentalist which person is holding which color. As you can tell, he spends several seconds looking at the picture to interpret the subtle information in the picture. Sorry for the technical explanation, but this is a very technical trick. I have done similar things with RFID readers using Arduino circuit boards.
@@cdiogoc That is a good question! Since there was a cover over the picture during the selection of cards, that tells me that the picture made changes during that time. In other words, the images in the picture made changes to their positions. The images and the positions mean something! For example, the pointy-top roof building could represent he blue card and the round-roof building could represent the pink card. If the pointy-top roof was all the way on the left side, that could mean that the person in the left-most seat is holding the blue card. This idea is very similar to a deck of marked cards you can buy for about $10 on Amazon. An open circle in a certain spot on the back of the card represents the suit, while another represents the rank. With just a little bit of practice, anyone can learn what a card is by simply looking at the design pattern on the card. I am very fast at it, but if I was very nervous because I sensed someone knew what I was doing, it would take extra effort and slow me down. Knowing the above, go watch the video a second time. You can notice that he spends a lot of effort viewing the picture, and you can truly sense that he is making decisions while looking at the picture. To me, it seems overly so; thus, he must have been nervous (clearly understandable) and thinking that Penn & Teller had picked up what he was doing. He was trying very hard not to misinterpret the information in the picture. I do think he did a great job at it! Kudos to him!
@@charlesfrancavilla6215 Interesting! The idea of marked card makes sense and - yes - he paid attention a while on the board. I was trying to search if this trick was done by him on another video to see different board positions but couldn't find any. Thanks anyway it helped a lot ^^
Anybody got the gist of this I’ve seen a Similar one where the magician puts the cards in people hands but he does some sly shuffles to make sure the right person gets the right envelope - but this guy did none of that as the audience member swapped them about
Normally I don't enjoy mentalism. In this day and age there are seemingly unlimited was to use technology. But this was very enjoyable and caught me by surprise. And I suffer from severe anxiety. I don't have panic attacks, but I understand how paralyzing and devastating it can be and how much you have to work.
I'm sorry, Jason... I'm 25 minutes late. I've failed you! Edit: Aesop... as Lady Gaga said, "I was born this way-hay...". So she's still a cat no matter what the exterior shows. I think you and Shawn should do a collaboration, but the reacting to reacting is done for now.
so i realy love this trick and his performance i had some thoughts, but im not sure im right... at 5:09 he randomizes the envelopes again. There is only one reason i can think of why this is done, to confuse us who has which colour. Now even the audience doesnt know the colourpositions anymore... so basicly it does not matter who has which colour. He just has to switch the colour to the one he wants during the reveal... But even watching it hundrets of times... i can‘t figgure out how he managed the switches...he never touches the envelopes again.... so i still have no idea... but i still think the second shuffle is important but i don‘t know how ... such a great performance
It is a simple trick all based on technology. The 5 coloured pieces of paper ( Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red ) all contain a small radio chipp ( RFID chip 1 mm 2 ). This information is read out , and then send to the lcd painting. 5 different silhouettes, they represent the colours.
My wife and I actually got to watch this one the other day. That never happens due to our schedules, especially hers (shes a RN and man.... shes been busy). I enjoyed it very much
I'm not into mentalism, i usually find mentalism boring, and i have no F*** idea how this was done. Unless, but i don't think this would be the case in this show, there was a stooge between the 5 selected people from the audience. Again, since i don't think this type of trick would be allowed on FU, i have no freaking idea. Great presentation, for an even grater trick. Well done!
It looks like somehow Javier can see through the envelop somehow and know exactly what color card is inside it, and he positioned them accordingly. Penn and Teller looked at the envelop and didn't find anything, that's strange. I wonder if there is such thing as Contact Lenses that can filter out certain color to make the envelope "transparent". Because I remember my dad told me back in the day there was a physical exam in his grammar school day to test if a kid is color blind. The teacher showed a picture who everyone said they see a pig, but a class mate of his insist he sees a rooster because he couldn't see certain color.
Something similar but only needs to see outside of envelope hidden symbol. Hands out a specific envelope to each person then has spotter code him which color goes in which one perhapes
People say RFID. I think more likely is a UV laser. That's why they were instructed to hold up the envelopes. The envelopes only have to be a little bit transparent and either the face colour fluoresces or there is another fluorescent compound that flashes in the UV spectrum.
If the person handing out the colored paper and envelopes (the bearded guy) was a confederate, the trick is pretty trivially easy. Otherwise I don’t know how it was done.
My take on the fable was a tale of temptation and addiction. The cat turning to a women represents something new, a change for the better. The mouse represents temptation, an urge that her previous self indulged in daily. Unconsciously giving in to this temptation she relapsed in her ways and undid her progress in bettering herself, turning back into a cat.
The tiger cannot change its stripes. One can't change one's essential nature. For example, He's a conservative, no matter what he says; the leopard cannot change its spots.
You are not looking at it correctly because it was not about the envelopes, it was about the colors. The colors had to be put in the same order as the flag. Maybe he could have had the extra envelopes with those colors in order with him or on the table to be picked up as necessary.
when he says to chose 5 diferent colours on the floor if you look when he threw the cards in the air there were only those 5 colours, what is amazing is how he could somehow know the inside of envelope.Maybe you are right but wouln't the people notice?
I do not know if it does it this way but he could have use RFID. With a reader in his pocket and specific signal/rumble for each colour. At some point it walked in front of every participants pretty close to the envelopes. My guess
@@JorWat25 This is basic! He said orange is not a color and remove it. The colors left are only 5: Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green and Red. He knows where the colors are maybe with the RFID (I noticed as well that he passes very close to each envelope) then he put the people with the color they have in the position he wanted (same as the final prediction). The final prediction is there from the beginning so he must achieve that final result: Blue-Green-Red. The point here is: how he knew about the colors? Maybe every single paper thrown in the air had a small RFID chip like the one on clothes in stores. Now they are so small and thin and the trick is in the yellow band he is wearing around his waist: on the side it has a kind of tail, maybe an antenna/reciever. Pay attention every time he passes close to the envelopes he point the end part of the band towards the envelope.
ok I've seen this video before, but I rewatched today... and the fable in the end made me laugh so hard! (What if she was pregnant, she would have some half cat/half human baby... who else would come to that conclusion... lol!) Hope you are well!
if it was anyone else other than penn and teller i would say that they let him win based on his story, but i know penn and teller would not disrespect anyone by cheating them out of an honest review/rebuttal This guy genuinely worked through his anxiety and developed a trick so wonderful and entertaining that Penn and Teller both were fooled and mesmerized. I loved Alyson telling him "strike your pose" as Penn was telling him he won, but dude was so in awe and disbelief that he broke character for just a moment. very wholesome.
yes Penn's envelope was from the final 'predicted' colour, but am sure P&T were watching for that. How!?!? me fooled to!!! NO MORE REACTIONS TO REACTIONS TO REACTIONS TO REACTIONS.... Just Skype/ video call with Shawn Farquhar
I could perform this trick with technology. Think tappable credit cards :-) I think once you know the colors in the envelopes, you arrange them in an order the rest of the trick works. Massive Kudos to Javier for overcoming his anxiety to perform on a huge stage with a huge audience!
Pretty easy to do that trick. Everyone is looking at the envelopes. When they should be looking at the size of the coloured cards.. they ain't the same size unless it's the same colour. So you can see the outline through the envelope.. nicely done though. This is why he chucked the cards around to pick up. So it's harder to notice. . Love your videos
Its an awesome trick and no idea how it is done.. as a magician myself in these situations I have to break it down to what I can work out.. and that is he must with out a doubt know what colour is in every envelope to randomly pull people aside predict the colour..and then leave the 3 colours at the end in perfect place.. all I am guessing is a or some kind of eye contact that sees through envelope.
4:41 the "Asian" men turning his envelope around cause he probably not understanding completely what's going on or what the Spanish mentalist is saying, it's so cute and heart-warming.
1) I suspect the fan was more than a fan. It might have been able to reveal to him which envelope and color. Ultra violet light to ID the Color in the envelope, or scanner reader 2) He could have had a choice of drapes to drop down. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++= With these two ways the trick could have easily been done.
