At the moment, the only gun for which I have templates and instructions is the RotaryMek-10X, which is a pretty complicated project. The simplest design for which I have a video is the double barreled scattergun (see my channel). The dimensions for that gun don't really need to be exact, so it could be built without templates pretty easily. What kind of design are you interested in?
Certain aspects of the design are not explicitly revealed by the video. The key to this design is that each loaded rubber band serves to "retain" the next rubber band in the sequence. The stretched rubber bands sit in oposition to one another on the mechanism, but with a leverage differential such that each rubber band can only discharge after the previous rubber band has left the mechanism.
@tomrinbellingham1 As far as I know, only in Japan is there an actual organized rubber band shooting association. I think in most places the rubber band gun is simply a child's toy. When it comes to creating new mechanisms and things like that, I think it's kind of like why mountain climbers climb a mountain: because it's there. I myself am drawn to the subject of the rubber band gun in large part because of its simple absurdity. What a rediculous thing!
@1TopGunPaintballer I have some CAD files that I'll try to incorporate into a new video soon, which show more explicitly how the mechanism works. It would be easier if I could just upload a few still images to my page, but I don't think youtube lets you do that.
@Rubbergunner Yes, backup magazines are the obvious accompaniment to this gun. However, because it is only a one-of-a-kind prototype at present, the only magazine that exists is the one shown in the video.
Take a look at my other video, MagMek-18, A Closer Look. Getting this mechanism fined-tuned was very difficult, and I've never been completely satisfied with it.
Is this guy a genius or what? But, who shoots these rubber band guns? Would it be good for a couch potato to use to teach the cat not to claw on the curtains? The next thing I'd want besides a couple of back up amunition clips is an automatie loader....
Thanks for the compliment! Yes, there's no getting around having to stretch and hook all those rubber bands. A replacable magazine system would in theory at least allow multiple magazines to be loaded prior to a skirmish. The Magmek-18 is a bit too fiddly and complicated to go beyond being just a concept prototype. I'm currently working on a simpler magazine system which will be easier to build, plus hold more rubber bands.
I don't really have conherent blue prints for it. Another of my videos, "MagMek-18; A Closer Look" provides more of an explanation of how the mechanism works.
@Rubbergunner Thanks for the reply I do apreciate it! Are you ever going to show how its made? I would love it if you ven just pictures of the parts with dimensions (In the video) and then a live video of you assemblying it OR pictures of the parts going together with subtitles to explain and just use live video for complicated steps. Then I would have no choice but Subscribe to you.
I don't get how the rubber bands fire... I've never seen your videos before in my life and I was going to make a gun with a clip that goes on top like yours for engineering project to make an invention or innovation, thought of my gun a few days ago and made a survey paper and now I find this! Good thing my is different enough, no trigger for ne thing so I am going to still go with my idea.
