Have not seen on of these in years! From 1976, the Magnavox Odyssey 300! Three built games, on screen scoring, automatic serve and three skill levels. Actually not a bad little pong machine!
I remember playing this as a kid. And it’s reminding me that this game is the reason I don’t enjoy video games because the paddle shouldn’t go through the wall!! 😂😂 The frustration is real! ❤ Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
When I saw the title of this video, I was like DAMN! Magnavox actually made 298 more game consoles since the Odyssey 2 and I never heard of ANY of them? lol
75 and the zillions of PONG clone games... I still remember playing electro-mechanical cabinets back in those days... The old forgotten gaming era!!! pre-graphic CRT games :)
Interesting RF modulator on those. Had one in a small town in 1976. We had a tall aerial to pull in tv from the closest city and the darn thing took the signal and sprayed 'Pong TV' on channel 3 to the entire town. First found out when people on the school bus who knew I had one asked 'who was playing the left paddle' 'my brother' 'oh, he was kicking your ass last night'. Peddled all over town and sure enough - it was as clear a picture as our own TV. Always wondered what our ratings were because mid 70s tv was terrible.
Awesome review Will! I used to have the odyssey 300 but the one paddle didn't work and the ball kept going through it. So I ended up selling it. I now have an Odyssey 3000 instead which is an amazing console.
I love the Odyssey systems! The 300, 2000, and 3000 are least interesting IMO, since they’re just AY-3-8500 systems and indistinguishable from the billions of other Pong clones, but the 300 gets points for style. It was also one of the first systems that got me into retro gaming back in the ‘90s. 😄 My favorite is the 500. 🙂
It's strange how, in this time period, Magnavox was putting out both clone Pongs and ones with their custom chipset, basically side by side. Kind of odd that they cranked out so many models that must have been hard for consumers to distinguish (Steve Jobs would disapprove).
@@MattMcIrvin help me out here matt, what should I be looking for in terms of being original and not a clone? I'm trying to pick one up but the information is scarce
I purchased this last year boxed along with a CIB of the Odyssey 2. Was really just interested in the O2 but for the price for both I couldn't pass it up.
