It’s about time someone cleared this up for me. When I got my first Kicker, my boy told me pull the boot, you’ll pick up DB. I did it for years. I stopped down the road but I always wondered where that came from. Heat is such an obvious reason
That’s another reason why I run qclass 8.😂. That may be another reason besides cone area why it can compete at only 500rms. But I will be using this method for any driver that I have with a boot.
Thirty plus years, i've never thought about that.Rubber magnet cover other than it looks neat. But factually and scientifically. Yes, it is an insulator that well encapsulate heat. Of course, I'm old enough and been around long enough that I remember. Subwoofers did not come with rubber covers on their magnets. I remember when that started occurring.I was like what's this uselessness 😊
I agree because I felt the same as you when they began placing the boot on the magnet, but insulators work both ways.. IF you're pushing the subs hard and competing heat is an enemy. Otherwise the difference is marginal because the boot does not possess a lot of displacement. as the coil temp increases the air in the enclosure is not immediately exposed to the radiation from the motor, thus creating a delta between the vented enclosure and the motor. INSULATION WORKS BOTH WAYS.
Add to the fact that the aerodynamics as it relates to pole piece ventilation.. Me, myself am not an adherent to the motor structure "aerodynamics" impacting ventilation, but I'm not privy to the airflow inside of the enclosure. Again marginal..
I used to gather info from multiple ppl, bro is official. The whole 1 fifteen in trunk of cars theory has been the most important info next to him also speaking on amp and sub efficiency. Kicker everything so far for me, except my nvx 750.1
