This Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in C was sung by the Kampen Boys Choir in Choral Evensong February 8, 2020 in the Bovenkerk of Kampen (NL) Choirmaster: Rintje te Wies Sander van den Houten played the famous Hinsz organ (1743)
Wonderful particularly in this time of covid 19 when so many of us singers cannot sing any more. I love singing Stanford. My 3 sons, who were music scholars in England are all grown up now but I am sure the next generations and thereafter will continue to sing. it is good to see the English choral tradition abroad too.
Greetings from Christchurch New Zealand. Enjoying this excellent well trained choir, and fantastic organ accompaniments in a warm acoustic. Congratulations.
So many amazing moments, the altos "World WITHOUT eeeeend!", the basses and tenors in the Amen, the "Aaaand to beeee THE GLOOOOOOOOOOOOOORY" It's a fantastic piece and one of the last ones the great Stanford wrote.
Thankyou so much. I love this so much and have for many years now. Do you also sing Blessed be the Hod and Father? I wish we could sing with you. My 10 year old son loves this too and my 14 year old daughter who plays the Pipe Organ, but we are in Australia.
Excellent topnotch Dutch choir doing justice to the English cathedral choir tradition. Methinks Rintje te Wies is in the inspirational choirmaster class of Barry Rose. Minor nitpick. I would have the gloria sung with slightly more gusto. I think it was a tad too solemn.
Christopher You are misinformed. Choral Evensong is flourishing and growing in the UK. Listen to BBC Radio3 each Wednesday at 4pm. As for being elitist our great Choral foundations and parish churches accept choristers on musical potential regardless of background. Have you heard the Temple church choir recently? Simply superb.
Wonderful! Is this another English invention being done better by others?! Just as well as the English seem to be doing their best not to continue it: too elitist and non-inclusive. Sickening.
