We were shocked to see that you were showing this house. We saw this house online last year and it spoke to our soul. This property started our house search in Italy. We contacted the realtor asking for a video walkthrough of the property. He made us a video and might have added it to the listing. The property is absolutely gorgeous! We were going to make an offer but the realtor, Andrew, said he already had an offer. After researching the town, it seems to be dead during certain times of the year which we didn't particularly like. We also didn't like the fact that after landing in Rome, (from the States) we'd have to get on yet another plane to fly to Sardinia. Andrew contacted us over a month ago asking if we were still interested in purchasing the property, but, we had moved on and are in the process of finalizing on our house in Tuscany. I'm not sure why this house is not selling. Maybe it's because of the same reasons we thought about.

Hello Jacqueline, thanks for your feedback. There were two buyers for this house, this slowed down the sales process. The first had to give up as he was unable to sell his house in France..... the second, after having already signed the compromise, had to give up due to personal problems. Such a pity. As for the airport, I agree with you, I don't think there are direct connections to the island today. The town is beautiful and there are many attractions in the surrounding area (search for Busachi on google or the Tirso river or Omodeo lake) as in all the small villages of Sardinia you will not be able to find great attractions all year round, in my opinion this is precisely the beauty, peace and tranquility, naturally depends on the lifestyle you want to undertake. Today, however, the house is available. Have a nice day, Andrew

Once we find a property, we research the heck out of the towns they are in and the surrounding areas. Not once was it mentioned that there were lulls in the town. Some folks may be okay with being away from the hustle and bustle, especially with so many other towns close by and about 40 minutes from Oristano, but some folks may not. That’s the great thing about Italy, there are so many homes available and something for everyone. At the end of the day, this house is such a beauty and we totally understand why it spoke to you😍 We appreciate you joining us for the fun and hope you have a great week✨

Not many people speak English or Italian on Sardinia, they speak Sardinian. I'm sure maybe in touristic areas you may find some English speakers.

Lovely house and a real stunner. Not too far from our second home in Sedilo (my wife is Sardinian). The major town nearby is Ghilarza, and if you ever pass through there go to La dolce vita pasticceria for some classic pastries and a coffee or glass of Cannonau. This place looks like it’s connected to the gas mains which is quite a rarity in these small towns, although a lot of them are getting hooked up to the main system. Where we have a place we still have to use propane cylinders that you can get delivered for the gas stove. Sardinians are renowned even in Italy (which is super hospitable) for their enormous hospitality and are a great bunch. It’s true they all live to a ripe old age and I think it’s down to their diet, which for the most part consists of all home grown foods and hand reared animals. I’ve sat down at family get togethers and noticed that there is basically nothing on the table that hasn’t been hand made or home grown, from pasta to vino, fruit and vegetables, meat, bread, cakes…..almost everything and of a really high standard as they try to outdo each other. For an island though fish isn’t a huge part of their diet. They are famous for their roast suckling pig (porceddu) which is cooked over hot coals and is excellent. Also they eat a lot of lamb, and small goat. You can get fish obviously nowadays if you are at the coast but I think up until the 1950’s they still had a high mortality rate with malaria in Sardegna so people kept away from the coast and they stuck mainly to the interior. The beaches are some of the best in the world, and I’ve been around a bit and they are probably the best beaches in Italy…….as Sardegna is a huge tourist destination for Italians. July and August are extremely hot, and I mean sweltering brutal heat and I usually go in late June or September when it’s a bit quieter. I’d sell up and move there tomorrow to be honest, but my wife likes the mainland a bit more than Sardegna where she was raised………so it’s a case of “Happy wife, Happy life”….

You are a wealth of knowledge and so willing to share with grace and kindness❤️ Love reading how hospitable the Sardinians (and Italians in general) are and the home-grown foods!! We did see a lot of talk about the roast suckling pig, and we also kept seeing that seafood was a focus because of their geographical location but not as much as Southern Italy… of course not everything you find on the internet is precise though😏 The beaches look beyond spectacular and Asinara Island with the albino donkeys 😍 The summers seem too toasty for our liking but way shorter than our summers in the states, so it could possibly work for us if we have air con and we won’t burst into flames. You are a smart, smart man… “happy wife = happy life” 🤣👌🏻 Hope you have an amazing week and as always, we appreciate YOU!!✨

No problem. Also if anyone ever goes to Sardegna, don’t forget to try out their speciality desert called “Seada”. It’s a sort of huge round Ravioli or Raviolo, pastry that is filled with sour pecorino cheese and grated lemon skin, then deep fried and served with honey or sugar and sometimes a dollop of ice cream, so you have the contrast of hot & cold dessert……….unbelievably good. Another thing I was taught over there was how to properly eat an orange 🤷‍♂️. Basically they peel an eating orange, and cut it into circles (from top to bottom) in effect just slicing through it so you have diced orange, and put that on a plate. Then put some extra virgin olive oil on the orange, not too much then some salt and if you like some pepper. Then with a knife and fork go to it……….very simple and very good.

@@SE10GREENWICH - Hi, do you mind me asking what general region you live in on the mainland? Because I'm curious if you find July and August in Sardegna any hotter than southern Italy or Sicily. I've heard summers in the (mainland) south and Sicily are brutal, so was wondering if Sardegna is even worse, or just hotter than where you live now. I think Sicily broke the record for hottest temp in Europe ever a few years ago. Grazie!

I currently live in Abruzzo, due to my job, but have also lived in Rome and the alto Lazio region and also Montepulciano, all due to work yet I travel and work all around Italy and Sicily. The hottest and most uncomfortable places I have been and worked in Italy are in the north around Crema, and inland from Ravenna. The humidity is off the charts in high summer and there’s no escaping it, unless you are indoors with the air conditioning. Sicily also gets very hot and almost unbearable as well but to be honest it’s not that insufferable or whenever I’ve been it’s been quite bearable. The interior of Sardegna however is brutal, during July and August, just unforgiving. Maybe it’s due to the geography of the place and the basalt rock base soaking up the heat, I don’t know but it’s pretty bad…….and last year and the year before there were swarms of locusts in the region of Busachi, Sedilo, Ghilarza, Abbasanta, like biblical swarms that they had to clear up with huge diggers, all due to the baking heat. Here in Abruzzo it’s ok, as I live very near the beach and within an hour I can be up on the Maiella mountain in the cool air, so it’s a good place to be. Rome in the summer is also something else, and to avoid at all costs in August, where the Roman’s abandon the city anyway and head off to the coast or mountains. Due to the excessive heat over the last few years in the north they’ve been having really bad rain and hail storms, from Piemonte right across up into the Veneto region, causing millions of € in damage. To be honest there’s not one specific place that’s better or worse in Italy and the north has some lovely places and the people are really easy to get along with, especially in Emilia Romagna, but I wouldn’t want to live up there. It’s all very subjective really, and I can only share my own experiences and pass them along, so it’s all a bit hit and miss. The place that I would move to tomorrow in Italy though is Sardegna, no question about it. Such a beautiful place and as I say the beaches are the best in the world or they can hold their own with the best, let’s put it that way. The Sardinians aren’t really Italian either, and they have a very distinct and unique character. Sort of Italian and Spanish with a bit of Greek sprinkled in………I think they speak a dialect of Catalan up near Alghero that they don’t even speak in Spain anymore, it’s that old……and my wife’s maiden name is also found in Greece..🤷‍♂️ Anyway Italy is lovely from top to bottom, and all there to be explored and enjoyed. There’s no really bad points about the place to be honest.

I don't think people realize how different Sardegna is in the high season vs. off-season, at least in smaller towns near the coasts (not sure about inland though). Best to visit, especially in the off-season to see how many places close down (or don't) in the winter. I like the idea of an off season and quieter winter, but also want a community to engage with, so I'll probably end up looking near, or in, one of the cities.
