This video is dedicated to Mark Stanway (born 27 July 1954) one of my favourite keyboad players, who joined Magnum in 1980. This was shortly after the departure of Richard Bailey. He is famous for his work with Magnum, and also with Phil Lynott's Grand Slam. He also plays with M3 Classic Whitesnake, featuring ex-Whitesnake members Bernie Marsden, Neil Murray and Mick Moody. In 2006 he performed with Robert Plant for the Honeydrippers shows. This version recorded on Magnums 1982 tour of the USA. Quite simply the greatest song Magnum EVER recorded, and Stanways finest hour. Beautiful!
"I cant remember what day or date it was, except that it was the Nashville Coliseum and the heavens had opened, however I digress, the idea of this paragraph or two is to try and recapture, while also explaining some of the unplanned things that happened...
The lights are down, the time is 7.45, we are introduced by a gentleman of impeccable reputation and 18000 people rise to the occasion with voice and cigarette lighter, a most splendid sight! There are various noises to be heard at this point, the band checking their instruments, fire crackers ( too close for comfort ) and myself shouting to Kex. I had completely lost my way in the dark!
"Soldier of the Line" and "Sacred Hour" are just a small portion of what was recorded that night, although hardly sophisticated and at times erratic, are exactly what happened that night, nothing added or taken away.
Come with us there..."
Tony Clarkin Friday 13th August '82.
This was recorded at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee on 29th April 1982, while the band were touring the USA with Ozzy Osbourne. As far as i am aware, this is the only time Magnum have toured outside of the UK and Europe. The whole American concert was subsequently released as a live album " Invasion Live" in 1989. I have no copyright on the song, lyrics, pictures or sleeve notes.
"All of my dreams that fell through and had tasted so sour.
Take second place in my mind for this one sacred hour
Still I've been moved for so long by this strange fascination
Here as I stand all alone in complete concentration
Face through the clouds in the Gods shine with awe and splendour.
Rise up and roar they approve will they always remember
I hear the voice of the crowd, it will last forever
Locked in my heart kept away like a stolen treasure
I can hear them calling
Hear the crowd applauding
If it's real I like the feeling
If I'm wrong who am I deceiving?
Night after night it repeats an exciting romance
Shared by us all though we met by a fleeting half-chance
Caught, trapped in time no escape from this powerful dreamworld, Pleased though I am to be here I am lost in the real world"

they used to be mine back in the day. They are the band ive seen most. There is no beating all their early albums (maybe first 7/8). I think they are still ok but their newer stuff is not as good as this stuff.

@@MAGNUM2F Totally agree! Up to and just after "Chase the Dragon". Like you the earlier days by far the better! Early 80s was magic for Rock and Prog Rock! So many great bands doing the circuits! Magnum Marillion, Budgie, Diamondhead, Tygers of pan Tang, More, Demon, Angel Witch, Twisted Sister, SAXON.... the list just goes on!

@@busdriver6278 We didn't realise it at the time, but we were spoiled back then. I would go see bands 2, 3 times a week. The thing is, a lot of those bands you mentioned, i still go to see. Demon, Diamond Head, FISH, Tygers, Saxon, i saw all within the last few years. Good music never dies....

First band I ever saw live at the Manchester Apollo. They were support for Krokus (where are they now!). Once Magnum finished their set the audience left for the bar and didn't return.
