@@ahmedhamad7244In another YT video, various grandmasters were asked for the first word that comes to their mind when they think of Hikaru, and Magnus said: “Decent”.
Super talented guys are like that, they have no competition intheir league and they know it. they play for the sake of having good games and excelling themselves. Very rare in today’s highly pretentious world
I'd agree if he praised Hikaru even a little after only beating him by 1 point in the SCC, but he always seems to blame being under the weather, not feeling so good or have some other excuse when playing against Hikaru. It almost feels like he wants Hikaru to feel afraid when playing against him so that he doesn't play at his best like he used to and still kind of does. I never see Hikaru do the☝"wait a second, is that a mistake?" when playing Magnus, like he does with everyone else, even though Magnus also makes mistakes, as if he's expecting Magnus to always be playing the best move.
@@SemmwizerI don't think he's lying when he says he wasn't feeling good. You can tell a difference in the games. And the fear comes from continueous losing to Magnus over his whole career, not from a quote.
@@kthemindreader6985 Fat shaming is always a good thing. It's an easy fix, you are healthier, and you look better. I have no sympathy for those who say it's too hard, I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 18 and had to fix my diet during my first year of college while getting a physics degree in a city hours away from my hometown. If I can do it, anyone can. Just don't eat dessert for three meals a day.
Magnus' only true rival is drunk Karl Magnussen, then only after that you have Hikaru. edit: Not gonna lie, Magnus saying Hikaru is on the second tier for his rivals with no one at the top is legit a compliment.
@@ondrejmacaCarlsen did not compete in Speed Chess championship in 2018, 2019, and 2021 though. Since the competition started in 2016, Carlsen has competed five times, won first place three times, lost in the semis v MVL in 2020 and lost in final to Hikaru in 2022.
In OTB, but the fact that Magnus has lost to MVL, and Hikaru in the final . . . not to mention he barely won the most recent SCC. No, Hikaru's his rival. And I like Magnus. He's still the GOAT.
@@grownupgaming. Sure. As Hikaru also said, he was not Magnus's rival pre-pandemic. Post? Different story. Magnus didn't even beat MVL. Magnus is still the best! But he has rivals. If he had none, he would never lose a final or major tournament to anyone else.
For anyone curious, he's talking about Lev Polugaevsky vs Efim Geller (1968). White won, but black had one pawn less (it was 3x3, instead of 4x3) and it was a struggle to convert.
@@vezquex It's quite insane! Personally, I'm a lover a chess and never got into until 3 years ago. At most I can remember concepts from a select few famous games or from openings I've studied, but remembering the entire games, who has played them, and in such a high capacity! this man is an utter legend.
@@builderphill1361 Well to be fair, it's his whole life. It's all he's ever done or studied, so it doesn't surprise me he has this kind of memory. I bet you have an equally good memory for things that matter to you as much.
The literal GOAT in chess. It's rare you see someone completely dominate everyone else to the point where they are on a whole different level in their craft and we have witnessed it with Magnus. Everyone was talking negative about him because he lost and was trying poker but he came back with a vengeance.
For the scc at least Magnus and Naka are definitely rivals, they made the exact points counting their two last finals. And 3 time formats are played in the scc so is not just one format. That all being said, you could take that "second after not rivalry" either as trolling or as a compliment, maybe even both at the same time.
here is the beauty of this situation - i have always followed chess, but chess has never exploded with popularity as much as it has with covid and streaming, and here we have a man that is incredibly young to be the best in the world at what he does, but grew up in a world where chess was not that popular, in relation to other sports / games. Now he is one of the most recognisable faces in the world, and the media hasnt had chance to claw at him and shape him in to the person they want him to be in front of the camera, he remains authentic, genuine, and humble. This is a guy with zero fucks to give and nothing to prove to anyone, and its wonderful
Magnus is truly in a class of his own. There is no format, that magnus is worse at than anyone In the world, the skill gap varies depending on format, but the gap is without a doubt still there.
Hikaru only has a chance against Magnus in bullet and blitz. In rapid, he doesn’t even come close. This is what makes Magnus so unbelievable, his mastery across all time formats.
In a way it's kind of sad. Ali had Frazier. Bird had Magic. Jordan had - no rivals. I'd like to see someone rise up and challenge Magnus. Before age is the reason.
Not the same comparison. Magnus is arguably the best of all time. Difficult to find a rival for a generational player like him. He even transcends generations. Even Kasparov and Vishy had no answers.
@@studywithkaran8491lol Where the hell did Kasparov and Carlsen face each other! Don't tell me that drawn game Carlsen became a serious pro after Kasparov retired Kasparov is definitely the second best of all time followed by Fischer Karpov Capablanca
@@Phurngirathaana ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cmB_FFMgpWM.htmlsi=bbzIhtL0UEX0RhqJ They did face each other as adults and it was a draw
Lol, do these guys always just go silent anytime someone makes a joke about Hikaru? Just like they did with Alireza’s comment about Hikaru unable to find mate with bishop and knight.
Hikaru really the second option after “literally nobody” lmao that said, he wasn’t really being mean or malicious. Compared to some of the other chess greats, this was honestly a pretty tame thing to say. Fischer basically called Kasparov a brainless ape at one point, though Fischer is another story.
He was serious, but stating it as a fact, not bragging. Magnus has won so much more than Hikaru, Magnus is clearly at a different level. But Hikaru has been close in rapid formats the last couple of years. But career wise it's not even close.
I feel that these guys are Magzy's minions and they're never sure if you laugh or keep a straight face. They give me state media vibe in "developing countries"
@sebastianag2966 I realize this but it's still funny. He's obviously shit talking for the sake of fueling the rivalry and drawing attention and it is supposed to be funny. Though it is also flexing his victory. They're just in a tough spot, they can't laugh at what was obviously intended to be a joke.
@sebastianag2966 But these things do not exclude one another. he thinks he's being honest, and he knows he can afford to say these things because they've been said about him by others for a long time already. It doesn't mean he's not joking at the same time, jokes don't have to be untrue. He's deliberately being funny while saying it, if that's a more suitable choice of words for you. "More than once have people interpreted him as shit talking..." aren't you talking about exactly one specific situation including Fabi?
@@gerryteiglandeide9902 everyone has terrible head to head to Magnus… Magnus is the goat. But since a few years Hikaru was one of the super GMs Magnus occasionally struggled. Before Hikaru was streaming and not taking chess as serious anymore, he had a terrible mindset against Magnus as everyone has. But now it’s different and Hikaru is one of the super gms with a decent chance. But Magnus will always have the way better odds on his side, against anyone. Hard to believe someone will come challenging Magnus consistently
It’s true, though. Magnus has no true rival, he is by far the most dominant chess player in all respects. He has challengers in one aspect of the game or another, but no one who can threaten to eclipse him overall.
"Don't know how the knight moves? Take this L, I put a fork on the board, Macaroni and shells Mac 11 as well, You can speak for yourself, I'm the greatest alive And I don't need any help" - Young Elo, "Magnus Carlsen"
As he said one time: it is not that he's good at "trash talk" but it seems that way because he backs it up. He can say that he's the best and make jokes on it because that's actually true
People forgetting there were world champions who dominated their competition even more than Magnus did. Magnus I find attaches his ego very much to being special. He probably yearns to feel more special than all the previous champions. More than anything, he is scared ti be forgotten. This can be seen is some of his interviews when he gave up the world championship. He was very unhappy having to answer questions but still make sure people understood he was special and above the rest. His entire identity rests on this. He feels so much pain when his "specialness" is challenged
Magnus will go down in history as the most honest (and consequently the most savage) Super GM of all time. I love how the things he says almost come across as arrogant but, because it's coming from Magnus, you just know that he's being honest. Magnus is a gift that keeps on giving to the chess world
He has no rivals. Someone has to be able to beat you at least on a somewhat consistent basis for it to count. Someone may beat Magnus in some rapid event or a classical event that he doesn't care about, but there is literally no one who is going to win a WCC type match against Magnus.
Hikaru always say Magnus is better. I never heard him not praising Magnus. Hikaru just plays chess with ease so why wouldnt he still do it. He is better or on the same lvl as other players with half the time spent practising. Dude is streamer first, chess player second and still the only one who can chellenge Magnus. Dont get why people are trying to prove who is better whem even Hikaru himself says Magnus is much better but OK, go ahead.
Hikaru has won many and so has Magnus. Both legends. But while Magnus will be always be the GOAT, Hikaru will always be the king of online chess. As was rightfully said by the panel
Second after no rival?? 😅, sure Hikaru must be over the moon(and i dont even accept the literally i dont care) as a reply from Naka..😂all jokes aside, i guess they are indeed greatest chess players at the moment but Magnus is clearly above Hikaru, knowing that i love them both
No he is not, Kasparov is. Magnus drew TWO World Championship matches in classical games against players who are his peers and those two peers havent won any world championships not even blitz, rapid etc. He had to win those two WC in blitz tie breakers. Thats an embarrassment. Kasparov never experienced that in his prime, ever. Kasparov smashed players across three generations and all with much higher pedigree.
Kasparov was already 37 when he faced Kramnik. Kasparov has been undisputed world champion for 16 years before that match lol. He was NOT at his prime. Sure he was still the best but 37 is not prime age for a chess player. And Kramnik is a world champion who defended his championship multiple times. Its a joke to even put Kramnik and Karjakin in the same sentence. Not to mention Kasparov convincingly beat prime Karpov and prime Anand convincingly in world championship matches. Both of these are considered all time greats. Carlsen barely beat a very aging Anand and couldn't even beat the other two nobodies in classical games LOL Now with new generation like Alirejza, Abdusotorov and Gukesh popping up, Carlsen runs. This is not even a discussion.@@imeprezime1285
Magnus and Hikaru are just chilling while their fans are throwing out trash talks and batshits about who is the best, as if they are defending their own closest blood relatives. 😂
no problem with the comment on his "rivals" but the way he tries so hard to send the vibe nothing really matters when it comes to chess it's so rude to my eyes... he should be more respectful towards chess in general.
