I say unless you are a super gm analyzing a game a gm is playing with another gm and they didn't drop a piece, like fisher's kinght or whatever, you don't get to call it a blunder... and you have to keep it in mind that you might still be wrong when they win positionally 20 moves latter because they sacked that piece then. Why? Because chess is hard. :-)

HAx2 That is true, but Magnus has the advantage of playing in the computer era. He gets to learn all of the lessons that chess players have taught him since Morphy, and he gets to benefit from computer analysis. Who knows how good Morphy would be today or Magnus would have been back in the 19th century.

@samheinlen6283

Magnus can either bring his king to c2 which ben says is more natural or take the pinned knight right away. Taking the knight is better because it forces ben to take back with the pawn since his queen wasn't able to take back like it would have if magnus played queen c2 first and allowed ben to move his queen over.

@AristarchusEsti 6 лет назад
Then again you don’t want to lose all tempos by not castling (Getting Mated). Leaving your queen out in the open is just foolish, and in theory, castling gains 2 important moves/goals. Getting your king into safety, and getting your preferred rook into the game.

At 10:40 , why not play rook d8, I mean you are still losing because after knight d4 you have to take with your bishop and after all the exchanges happen magnus will have a rook for a bishop and be a pawn up...But that's still better than getting mated right?? Or am I missing something?

A week later, *Wesley So* (2822) played the same London System variation against *Radoslaw Wojtaszek* (2745) in Round 3 of the Gashimov Memorial. In that game, Wojtaszek deviated from GM Finegold with 8...h6 (instead of Finegold's 8...c5?). Wojtaszek went on to hold the draw on move 40. www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1872047

were those moves really hard for a normal gm to find with out a computer? it seems to me some straight forward calculation if we ignore some general ground considerations.
@gianpalacio5635
@gianpalacio5635 6 лет назад
That's exactly the logical reasoning you have right there. You're right, but... in such a complicated game, to make a series of "obvious" moves (which can be rated as logical rather than obvious) you need to be sure you're making the right move. I'll explain myself in a clearer way; how many times have you or any normal player made a straight forward calculation and get fucked by it?

What do you mean by Carlsen not being the best player in the world?? He's the current highest rated, world champion, youngest player to ever be ranked #1, was 14 when he hit 2800, and achieved the highest rating ever achieved by a human player (2882). Maybe you could make a case that he isn't the best player in history - even then I'm not sure - but I think it's pretty indisputable that he's the strongest player around right now.
