Magnus Carlsen plays like AlphaZero

Featured in this analysis is the game between Magnus Carlsen and Nijat Abasov from the 2023 FIDE World Cup. The opening is a Sicilian Defense, Rossolimo Attack where Carlsen gambits a pawn by move 7. Carlsen’s play in this game resembles the strategies employed by the neural networks Alpha Zero and Leela Chess Zero. This resemblance is particularly evident in how one of Abasov’s pieces loses its effectiveness. Carlsen’s Rg1, akin to the Freak Attack in the Sicilian Najdorf, serves as a reminder to Abasov that his intact kingside structure may not provide the black king a safe haven. Carlsen’s gambit in this game is an excellent example for deep strategic play that provides one with multiple forms of long-term compensation.

@rodrigoathayde1488 easy as a chess master for 27 years.. Having played maybe 10.000 chess games and having watched several thousand chess matches online (gms, alpha zero, etc) and following this channel It is a natural result of solving chess problems like this. It's like an instinct now finding such critical moves.. However, I still have a huge gap in my opening knowledge, so my elo is somewhere around 1700, not higher..

At 14:48 you said black QF1 but I was thinking QF3 and thus it seems as good or better, perhaps not?
@jamesburnett3594
@jamesburnett3594 Год назад
I think queen is better on f1 because she controls more squares that way and has better attacking chances on the king by controlling the last rank. On f3 you're hitting the rook but it's defended and could go to h3, which would force queen to f1 anyway. And that would be worse for black since the rook on h3 can better assist in defending the king and pawn structure. If you go to f1 immediately the rook can still to h3 but now black retains tempo whereas with f3 first you're handing white the tempo.

I've heard all the commentators say Qf1 is winning. Why not move the white Q to d2? That looks like a draw after black Q to f3 attacking the R, white goes back to h2 with the Q.
@travisnobleart

I would have turned that clown bishop into a star. Learning in chess seems to be about making adjustments to our levels of priority. So from this point I realize I need to increase my priority on correcting all pinned pieces that are not protected by a pawn.
