Congrats on 50k subs. You have quickly become my favourite chess channel - you’re a middle ground between Levy and Agadmator in terms of the mix of humour/enthusiasm and to-the-point analysis and exploration of side lines.
Its just absolutely incredible how Magnus spotting these tactics so quickly, I have noticed the same this year in online Speed championship few months ago, when he literally slaughtered the likes of Nepo, Alireza, Danya and in the final Hikaru, again he was also finding crazy tactics in fractions of seconds.. we will probably never see someone like Magnus who mastered all formats like he did... not at least in the next 20 years or so
Congrats on reaching the 50k milestone. I have been following your channel right from its infancy. Glad to see you are making huge progress. Happy New Year and wishing you the very best
I think I finally understood the purpose of Bishop B2. White has this cheap plan of playing b5 and answering a6 hook with a4 ( the b5 pawn can keep c7 backward and reply c5 with enpassant) but the Rook needs to be protected first. Still took me 10 minutes gazing at the position but Magnus finds the idea behind Bb2 in a second!!
Hikaru showed a game a few days ago that I had seen your site earlier. Your analysis was much more enjoyable and interesting. Hikaru is a great player and has a good site but yours is terrific. Keep it up and don't change a thing.
Ever see that wildlife video where a cheetah or some big cat captures a young impala and just plays with it for a few minutes before deciding he wants to eat? That’s how I feel about Magnus’ games lately. He’s the cheetah.
Sorry but I'm a beginner at chess (love your commentary and enthusiasm).... I dont understand why white does not go queen b4 check then get the bishop...??
Yet again. Compare the king safety with Magnus'. White had holes in front of his king the entire game. Meanwhile Magnus' king was safe and sound without even a check threat to bother him.
he has said he admires Fischer most and how he tried to emulate him. This game as Alekhine ritten all over it. And Capablanka said of Alekhine's game that they were 20% bluff. I feel this is true of Carlsen too. He would probably be horribly offended if he was told this. But it is just the impression I get from his games in the last 3 years or so.....
If I ever get a chance to play Magnus, I will definitely 1.f3 (or1..f6) so at least I can blame the bad opening for my miserable position which I am sure I will get. These GMs should start doing it too. I mean... look at the b2 Bishop. It is like 1100 Elo ideal bishop.
I think the reason for Carlsen’s continued domination is his getting rid of Play Magnus and scaling back “building his brand”. He plays looser and seems to enjoy the game more than ever.
Bg2 killer move for sure Ultimate Game Changer as the game was going downhill for Magnus’s opponent even before that but that was the final straw for sure thanks for the Game Great !! Move by Magnus Happy New Year James Enjoy your day
I think you've gotta work on your intonation bro. Your voice is incredibly annoying sometimes. You literally stress every word you say and it is very hard work trying to listen to you.
