Magnus’s views on offshoring are well known and I personally agree with him. However I think he is off the mark on crypto. I don’t understand block chain tech, but I know it is headed somewhere and won’t disappear. Your talk with Rob Price painted an excellent non tech picture of how crypto is likely to fit into our futures. I think it’s worth adding a smidgen into a diversified portfolio. Another good discussion, thanks David.
Hi Gareth, Overall, Magnus is correct in his diagnosis of the investment risks in SA, but I would agree with you that crypto should form a (small) portion of your portfolio, especially given the rampant monetary printing by the Fed over the last decade. I don't see the dollar disappearing as an international reserve currency anytime soon, but as a hedge against the USD I would say that BTC is worth considering. Rob's discussion was excellent - I seem to recall he suggested a 5% crypto asset allocation. I would also recommend checking out Rob's website, Sound Money Macro: soundmoneymacro.com/author/robertjohnprice/ Thanks for watching, Gareth!
Crypto I M H O is the panacea to offshore diversification. There are many scams out there that you need you be super strategic and have your radar set on +10. I have an excellent opportunity that has been around since 2019 and I'm a convinced advocate for crypto...I practice what I preach.
I've followed Magnus for over 25 years. I personally am extremely grateful that he shared his insights with us. He has been spot on (most Fund Managers have taken their personal funds out of SA, despite encouraging the opposite). Personally, I favour direct offshore investing. 99% of the best offshore funds are available as direct ETF's (using a good stockbroker trading platform) Great show David.
I would like to know what options are best suited for People aged 50+. How can we ensure we invest in proper financial vehicles to ensure a good safe (with regards to finance) investment...RA is mentioned for those of 55+...and for younger people other options...but I see 50+ as being in the middle? Any advice?
Would you say USDcoin is a good "double hedge" in terms of $ + crypto? I'm speculating here, but I don't see USDC growing much as a coin, unless someone famous and cool tweets about it.
