We have a maggy family that come in every day and use the bird bath out the front for a drink and a bath, then check the grass for grubs etc. During the dry months, they also shower under the little reticulation sprinklers (for the small patch of lawn out the front) then do this against the side fence in the sun. They're funny buggers and have a large repertoire of calls. If you see them around, talk to them, they love it.

Looks like "Anting" to me. Lots of birds do this, they find an ant's nest that has been disturbed, or some of them even disturb the nest themself. Then they lay down and fluff their feathers up, which allows the ants to get all over their body next to the skin. And the ants take away the insects that are parasitic on them.
