I left religion years ago and no longer consider myself a member of any religion or denomination. I'm spiritual, but do not belong to any religion. But this woman takes me back to my roots, back to the foundation of my youth. Quite comforting.
Mahalia Jackson is absolutely my GOTO at any time in my life when I am going through adversity. Her music was in my home all the time we were growing up. She was a spiritual giant and a beacon. Although we were a white family in poverty, she was a huge presence in our home. My preacher father loved her music because he said it embodied the purity and the power of the very Gospel of Jesus Christ.
"Oh, God gon' take care of it, Baby! He gon' take care of it." That line there gets me every time! Mahalia Jackson saying this is enough to save a dying world!
God told me when I was 19 years old if I wanted to sing worship unto him he told me to model myself after Mahalia Jackson I learned how to sing watching Mahalia minister in song, she was my inspiration to worshiping GOD sincerely and in truth with all my heart theses why I sing even now in 2019! She is still my inspiration and watching her thirst for worshiping Christ is transforming to anyone who hears her!
This woman was a true disciple of Christ. You can tell by her wisdom. God's followers always leave ppl in awe over their wisdom with little to no theological schooling. Once you have the Holy Spirit, God will provide everything you need to serve Him and others.
I am so ashamed of myself for not getting into Mahalia Jackson like I used to. I've never seen this video until just now, and, oh my God! everything she's said even exists to this day. she spoke nothing but the truth, so help her, God! I would have loved to have met her! even though she's not alive, she seemed to be smarter than people who are book smart. I feel her spirit just by watching her talk, and sing! I love that woman of God! God bless you in heaven, Ms. Mahalia Jackson!
Mother Mahalia went to be with the Lord in January of 1972 but in this interview in 1971 she has has a look, a glow that seems as though she has already begun her transition from mortal to immortality!
Just listening to her speak for the first time in my life, but I can see that she was New Orleans to the bone! If you grew up here, you feel where I'm coming from.
Miss Jackson was a genius, and a mystic of Christianity. She's so in tune with the Holy Spirit. She cuts through the fakery and gets to the heart and meat of all people. Strong principles. Conviction. Amazing power and intelligence.
Wish I could have meet this wonderful woman. (I needed to be born a little earlier.) I'd love to have had her fix me some red beans and rice. Love this lady. Thx for this footage!!
Pure Genius! This footage is a marker in time. The Christian call to duty is to help our fellow man. A FAAAR cry from today's Christian practice, where Praising a G-d we can't see, in place of loving our brother we see everyday. My my my! How times have changed!
Truly blessed from and of God,I love you angel thank you for being a great lady so grand and deep with the love of God and Jesus truly in your whole spiritual being,I love you Mrs.Mahia JAckson forgive me if I spell your name wrong🙏😇😁😎🤗
Momma Mahalia hit the nail on the head! "If the Christian hypocrites turn from their wicked ways, the sinners will see..." You don't hear gospel singers talk like this. They're too busy pointing the fingers at the sinners instead of just living a correct life and lead by example. Even with the non-believers, she said they have a duty and that is to love fellow man. Ha-ya!
Yesss, you aint never lied! Im sick of folks trying to perfect themselves and hate others, assoon as i got saved as young as i was, sooooo many black folks gave me hell!! Dealt with so much hypocrisy and hatred, even from family!
This interview blessed my soul this morning!! she has always been my all time favorite artist. she knew God and you could tell in her singing. She was in love with the creator. Many days I fall short in my walk and I get jealous of that feeling I know she has to have when shes singing, lol. Its a good jealousy, though! Oh to be in that place with God is how I strive daily. Just a closer walk with thee oh Lord! She hit the nail on the head about loving one another and loving God. It is impossible to say that I love God and I hate my co-worker. My grandmother played her albums all the time and I can see why- the woman was divinely sent by God to give us this beautiful music and minister to our souls. the original MJ- you are missed.
oh lord this woman was powerful, humble, intelligent , talented and very God fearing, this is really a great interview of Mahalia, thsnks alot for sharing.
Me to right at grandma house she cook up a real meal. She was so down to earth she didn't have a college degree but she didn't need because she had the greatness of God . Like she say we do so much talking nowadays and that was 1971 and we still doing it.
Great lady soaked in truth and love of God. Sufi Islam teaches somewhat the same as Mahelia has said. Feed the Man then talk about salvation. Sufi teach this: What is the best gift to a Man.? The Gift of BREAD to a Man is the best gift. ( Bread = livelihood.). That is why in the modern terms , Best to create our own job and to create jobs for others.
I wish I could've just sat down and talked to Mother Mahalia Jackson! She was full of wisdom and knowledge about life! I've ALWAYS adored this beautiful and wonderful woman!! REST IN PARADISE!! 🌷🌹🌷🌹
I've always been very fortunate. When I was growing up, my parents were poor and were working all the time. My mom found a woman to take care of the kids while they were working named Maudie Harris. Maudie was from New Orleans, and growing up, I heard about Mahalia Jackson, who Maudie loved, and Sam Cooke, and I didn't realize, until seeing this, how much Maudie and Mahailia seemed like sisters. There words, their views of the world, their belief in God, was so much alike, that when I see this, I feel as if I'm seeing Maudie. Being as young as I was, I never knew how close they were, I knew that Sam and his brothers, played with her sons, and they were over all the time, but all this makes me so fortunate to see our world, from this side - and to have grown up with it.
The good Lord gave back to Ms. Mahalia Jackson what she gave out to others that were in need in the great depression and most of her life she did that!! She was a sincere person, which is what I had heard about her. I knew her friend that did 3 concerts with her, Ms. Willa Dorsey who was a sincere person also.
She speaks like my grandmother I would have her talking to me all day just to hear her voice. Such a humble settling spirit that touched my head to feet.
So wonderful to hear from the great Professor Dorsey! I've heard his music, seen his picture but here he IS! Sort of a bashful man! THANK GOD for them ALL!
Wow, this interview needs to be broadcast across America now in 2019. Sister Mahalia Jackson is speaking truth to power. "If you don't like it, don't shoot me in the head. I'll tell you to your face." "Trust in God. God will deliver us!" "God going to take care of it, baby" Hypocrites... I fear nothing, but God. God is able God is pure God loves us without us loving Him.
What an amazing awesome woman of the spirit. Rest in paradise Ms 🙏 Jackson! God is great. Thank you Lord for taking me to this page today 🙏. I love you Lord. Wow..what a powerful message!
Gospel singers of her generation believe that singing gospel music was just as well as preaching it. I read in one of her bio books that Mahalia wanted to be an Evangelist.
Jesus sit down with lepers, thieves and those that SOCIETY cast out. Evil preys on the weak. Loving all creatures makes U. S. come together as a force mightier than the EVIL that would destroy all things. In God We Trust One Nation Under God. That makes GOD our KING✌🏾🗽⚖️
She of love and giving to those who are in need. A lesson well learned from her aunt who she was named after.. Such a voice so power that went deep into the soul regardless of denomination. Great southern lady.
Mahalia jackson was very beautiful and her music always made me cry when I listenin to her she definitely had something that alot of gospel singers dont have atall now days.
THOUGH THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MAHALIA.. THAT MANTLE ON HER LIFE PASSED TO SOMEONE-AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE BLOOD RELATED. SHE REFUSED TO COMPROMISE BUT WAS ABLE TO GIVE AGAPE' LOVE TO ALL PEOPLE. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!!
A true beautiful soul, shaped and fashioned by God Himself. There will never be another Mahalia Jackson, this thing say not lightly ! Sleep dear child till the Lord return.
You dont even hear much gospel artists of today speak like this!! Why God had to take most of the real people who were bold for Christ??? She did not even have a higher education and had more common sense than some who we see here on television. She is right about people being hypocrites!! She sounds like my grandmother.
+Sharmain Spann OOOOOOOOOOH NO! It's still some around today don't fool yo self! With God being God He ALWAYS is going to have a remnant of people that are going to do His WILL and live for Him! Whether they be in the "spotlight" or not
Marquasious Gaines I agree!!!! There are some still around just not many. I like to see real and authentic people. She reminds me a lot of my grandmother. She believes in helping others now she has to be looked after now because of her getting older and closer to 90. I pray that God keeps her.
+Sharmain Spann I undestand and agree about people being real and authentic. I pray that the LORD would use me in music to help change things in music and the world on a global scale, because that is TRULY a desire in my heart I just want Him to get the glory out of my life with the gift of song and singing He's giving me. But YES! Her words REALLY touched and moved me in this interview. She had a VERY SPECIAL anointing for the work God had her to do on this earth while she was here. And I PRAY in the name of Jesus that God keeps and strengthens her in her body and that His will be done in and with her life. And that you may continue on with the legacy of your grandmother of showing love that you may have an even greater legacy of showing the LOVE OF CHRIST! Love you and God bless you! May God and His precious presence be and dwell with you forever. Wasn't intending to right all this but I feel this on my heart. Love you. God bless you. May His blessings overtake you.
She was rar form she could sing. And this was the early 70s and she still was around in the late years. I would love to go to her house and get a home cooked meal.
PRAISE GOD, PRAISE GOD!!!! HOW CAN SOMEONE BE FULL OF JOY AND NOT HAVE THIS WORLDS "stuff", God and only God!! You cant fake the Holy Spirit!!!! I love this lady.
Mahalia commented: I am not educated, yet her understanding is not elementary by any means. The spirit, the soul, and the body must be fed daily beginning with ourselves and then to others and each of us are able to contribute in varying degrees, yet none greater than the other, so there is no lack or boasting.
Today’s Christianity has SO alloyed with soulish and freshly ideas that it’s lost much of it’s pure and powerful influence. We to go back to the ORGANIC Christianity like it was in the book of Acts by communicating and advertising the pure simple and efficacious gospel of Christ with the FULL power of Lord Holy Ghost. Mahalia’s words were and still are anointed by God because I’ve learned that anointed things transcend times, eras, cultures, fads, and transient styles. I’m so glad this was posted. Thanks!
Today, someone told me that I sound like Mihaila Jackson. I did not know who she was, so I immediately searched for her and I'm so happy I found this video.
Looking at this clip almost move me to tears cause it reminds me of my mom and although she never got to hear much of Mahalia one thing they shared was their love for God. seeing this is moving and at tines tough to watch cause you can see that Mahalia looked ill but she always assured everyone God will take care of it and in this world of greed & hatred we need to better this world to make it a better place before the worse comes to worse.
