I assume you have a farm or you drive it on the road? The problem is they market it as a play hard work hard vehicle just like a Ford or Toyota as that is the largest market that is why Mahindra market it towards that sort of buyer. The problem is all other brand you can increase the clearance and you can fit larger on/off road tyres. The Mahindra you cannot increase the clearance even by 1mm and you cannot fit bigger tyres or off road tyres. So as a off-road vehicle the way they market it it is useless it is false claims they just do not mention clearance or tyres .because most people assume you can upgrade any 4x4. That is true you can upgrade any 4x4 except for the Mahindra that is why it is so cheap.

#Mahindra #MahindraPikUp #Mahindra4x4 The Mahindra Pik Up Karoo is a 4x4 bakkie is an Automatic 4x4 pick up truck or 4x4 Bakkie as we would call it in South Africa. It is priced at R451,999.00 for the top spec and is a good option for anyone wanting a more affordable top spec bakkie. The Mahindra Pik Up Karoo offers a rough drive but is still a solid bang for the buck. Reminder that Mahindra is an Indian origin brand but definitely a brand growing in South Africa with it's affordability.

I also thought is was growing locally. I could not believe Mahindra only sold 2 or 3000 per month while Toyota was selling about 22000 but I thought its just a matter of time as soon as people realize its so affordable with a 2.2l turbo engine. However who buys a D/C 4x4? Not a company that needs a road vehicle to make deliveries. They market to families as a work hard play hard vehicle but that is exactly what it is not. Take the Suzuki Jiney excuse spelling. If you buy that vehicle to run about home to the shops etc then great but if you wanting to do any 4x4 off-roading or weekend camping etc. I know of 4 buyers and even the girl and guy who do not use it for 4x4 driving they have all increased the clearance because it has 8.1inches of clearance now its shape is great square as you know the longer the vehicle like the Mahindra DC. I am trying to say with 8.1 inches about 210mm of clearance the Suzuki will perform much better than the Mahindra without any upgrade because of the shape the Suzuki will just perform better. Now if so many people are adding springs not even suspension but just trying to get 1-3cm of extra clearance without the extra clearance the Suzuki cannot really go off-road it can go on roads that a Toyota corolla entry level can go. If there is a small bump or even a small tree branch or anything on the dirt road if its just a sand road that is dry and any vehicle can drive on it like a corolla or mini or whatever then great but that is not going off-road that is driving on sand or tar both flat as soon as you have anything and if you going off-road you will have many little bumps pieces of wood. Let me say it like this the Suzuki needs a little lift and on/off road tyres to go off-road otherwise you can drive on tar or a sand/dirt road but you cannot go off-road as you will damage destroy your oil sump your fancy new 4x4 system if you look on RU-vid see almost all the Suzuki off-road reviews they have all increased the clearance having said that the shape of the Suzuki is much better than a longer vehicle or Pickup in other words the Suzuki out the factory already has about 5-10mm more clearance than the Mahindra so if that brilliant jeep shape cannot handle off-road a Mahindra or large long bakkie will never be able to go off-road. But the difference with the Suzuki is you can increase the clearance and fit bigger or dual on/off road tyres then you have a little vehicle that can go off-road not rock climbing but a beginners off road vehicle rating 0-2 the problem with the Mahindra is you cannot increase the clearance by even 1mm and you cannot fit any other tyres you stuck with 16 inch road tyres you cannot get more off-road or even dual on/off road tyres that is 100% road tyre only plus you cannot change the tyres and fit even 1mm bigger tyre.

Suggestion: When you do bakkie reviews load it to simulate working conditions and take it off road a bit to get a true perspective.

It is very disappointing when you told you can increase the clearance when you told you can fit off-road tyres and you can fit bigger tyres as that will also give you some extra clearance. But these guys doing reviews have probably never purchased a vehicle before this is what they could afford and they in the honey moon phase. Maybe they just want to D/C 4x4 but have no intention to use it off-road. If they do they will eventually realize they need more than 200mm Mahindra claim 210mm but its closer to 200mm I have tried about 12 upgrade places and we measured the vehicle. If the buyer wants to go off-road they will need more clearance and dual on/off road tyres as the tyres are 100% road tyres. But the Mahindra cannot be upgraded. You cannot fit bigger tyres or off-road tyres and you cannot increase the clearance even by 1mm. The vehicle has a serious flaw.

My next vehicle. Unfortunately no stock available in any dealers where I live. New stock arriving this month & January 2022, already sold out. I'll probably be waiting till March/April 2022. From what I've heard Mahindra getting alot of interest here. Main stream 4 wheel drives like hilux, ranger, BT 50, Navara, etc.... are very expensive. 🖐🇦🇺

Yeah I think the KUV series has also gotten a lot of interest as well

If you are looking for a "basic" working bakkie the Mahindra offers the most value for your buck. My daughters however will not be seen in one of them😂😂😂😂 Edit: don't drive it right after having back surgury...!!!!

I would never buy a Mahindra again. They have very bad clutches a the transmission breaks all the time. Every person I know that owns a Mahindra bakkie, has had trouble with the clutch or transmission or both.

Good to know Martin. I found the drive quite rough but didn't "hate it". Still an affordable option for a 4x4?

In my case it was the F-ing ball joints that needed to be replaced every 3 months. They are cheap but still a hassle...

My clutch gave in on a highway, 2013 2.2 Mhawk single cab, useless bakkie, parts very expensive and injectors also had to be redone, I only fill up at Caltex garages with clean diesel, yet the injectors failed and its only on 97 000km now, can't believe it's my second Mahindra in 6 years and it just gives endless problems...the dealerships and parts department people treat customers like idiots and part prices are more expensive than a Toyota Land Cruiser's parts...trading in my Mahindra soon for an old 1990s 4.2 Diesel Land Cruiser...had enough of this horrible service

Hey Pal if you stay on the road you will be OK. But don't try go off-road as your clearance is only 200mm and I am afraid its the only vehicle in South Africa with 4x4 that you cannot increase the clearance. The Suzuki you can and all the others you can so if you want it for the road great but if you want it for off-road you will be very disappointed. You also cannot upgrade the tyres. You cannot fit even off-road or dual tyres you stuck with the 16inch road tyres. Do you hear me you cannot fit a 1mm bigger tyre you cannot fit any other tyres so no dual on/off-road. You mention the entertainment do you know what Android is? Apple? You are too young to remember the GPS devices before Android! If you search for a place the GPS will not find it you need to enter the full address and search it will take you around Alberton for 2 hours before it find the road to Durban. The other thing is the electronics do not work well. One day the radio works the next it will not work. Please beware when driving on the road as the rear diff lock is automatic but it is not a quality component so the diff locks at any time I almost got killed when the auto diff locked at about 90km per hour on the highway N3. I like the way everyone is doing reviews but you need to know the facts and inform people of the facts because most will assume a D/C 4x4 Pikup can be upgraded as all the other makes can but the reason the Mahindra is cheap besides the junk GPS and electrical problems is the facts that the entire underneath of the vehicle is about 20-30 years old that is why you cannot fit any other tyres whatsoever and you cannot increase the clearance by even 1mm. If you do not believe me I am in Cape Town I have 19000km on my Mahindra I can only get R150k and its basically brand new. Except it has high km relative to the year. But I tried to trade-in when I had done 2000km also only R150k I paid full price brand new so it also has the worst resale value of any vehicle in South Africa.
