MAHINDRA PIK UP AUSSIE LONG TERM REVIEW - Roothy
Having tested most of the new dual cabs in search of a new 'daily driver' the Mahindra Pik Up stayed the longest - a whole year! - and is my favourite so far. Mahindra is Indian made and the quality of build is excellent, the basic design is strong and as simple as it gets in this class and I guess the real decision will be made after I've had a look at a few more and then - arrghh, reached for the wallet....
Would love to have a go at modifying a Mahindra too - so far it's the only one I've felt that way about.

We bought a Mahindra jeep in 1989 it's still running. And Mahindra pick-up is used heavily here due to bad terrain. In some places with the rough road that is the only capable pickup that can transport goods.

While the Toyota 79 cost twice as much, you'll definetly recieve more of it back from resale when you move it on. Also as the Mahindra looses towing capacity when loaded with a GCM of 5150kg and a GVM of 3150kg the towing capacity goes from the already low rating of 2500kg braked to 2000kg. Which ironically is the same towing capacity as SWMBO's Zook Grand Vitara. I think that speaks volumes for the vehicle. Oh and fully loaded 79 looses 0kg from it 3500kg towing capacity fully loaded.

A bit sad that Roothy doesn’t address these points yet people see him as providing a no BS review of the vehicle. In a time that sees more and more people hitching up their van and hitting the highway (as opposed to the overseas holiday) you’d think that a bloke as ‘in the know’ as Roothy is, would point this stuff out, wouldn’t ya??? It’s just a paid / sponsored advert.

You pick the right tool for the job... if you want to tow very heavy loads and caravans etc. frequently, then of course a big v8 79 would be the right choice... but if your looking for off-road capability in a dual cab without the need for a tow horse or the ridiculous price tag, then this very well built farm truck is a perfect choice...
@micknoname6466

@@-Awareness Well, if 2000kg is your limit your tool is like a shifting spanned bought from Coles rather than a Sidchrome 👎 You’re only gonna be towing the smallest single axle vans on the market. And with a rubbish departure angle, you’re not towing them thru anything rough.

I will back you Roothy. I actually worked for Mahindra AG where I sold Tractors, XTV's and Cars/Pikups and had a pik-up as my company vehicle. I spent less on diesel than when I had a Colorado not only that the places I took the pik-up, the Colorado struggled. Which I think weight had a huge factor the pik-up is lighter and more agile. You can get lift kits and engine tunes for the pik-up which the only things out of the upgrades available I had done were a lift and bash plates. Mind you just for the record I had the previous model in a 5 speed 2.2mHawk T/Diesel and alloy tray. I had the current shape for a short stint but didn't get the chance to treat it like a dirty 4x4... Great review Roothy no fluffy over complicated wording to describe this ute. what i think is missing in the 4x4 line up in australia is an affordable how do i say it, i guess industrial vehicle. what i mean by industrial is minimal tech and a bullet proof engine. like if you a farmer or even someone who works on an outback station then what the hell do you need lane assist and all the other over the top nonsense on modern vehicles. fine for city dwellers and blacktop warriors but where is the 4b that can live its entire life on the dirt and rarely if ever see a bitumen road.. and be 100% reliable doing it. im liking this mahindra pickup but an automatic would be nice for those of us who are sick to death of changing gears all day and have absolutely no use for all the over the top technology.

It's little cheaper than the scorpio yet most reliable thing you'll ever see! it can even work years without getting maintained.

Yes even in India bolero is more of a country side workhorse whereas scorpio is preferred where people love to have that road presence, high clearance and bit more comfort. India will see a new gen scorpio and bolero later this year, so they might make the difference a bit more drastic.
