Hi, Mahmood's mother is Italian and his father is Egyptian, his father abandoned him when he was little, he was born and raised in Milan in Italy. The song is a cover of a modern Egyptian song, Mahmood kept the lyrics and melody, but slowed down the tempo and created a fusion of Arabic sounds with Southern Italian folk sounds. The part sung by the woman is not in Arabic but in the Griko dialect, a southern Italian dialect derived from ancient Greek since those areas were Greek colonies 2000 years ago.
This performance is pure magic! I love it and actually this has been the video I watched the most in 2022. This song originally was sung by an Egyptian singer, Sherine, his father used to listen to when he was a child.
It's also amazing if you consider Mahmood doesn't speak Arabic and for this performance he had to practice for 3 months to learn the lyrics and, according to him, he did a poor job. Personally I love it! 😊
