I remember when my mom took me to see this on our Saturday mom and daughter day and she brought me the album Great Memories RIP Mommy 💔

I will never forget the teary eyed crowd leaving the theater on a snowy Sunday night knowing we all saw a damn good movie!

"Success is nothing without someone you love to share it with" one of the greatest lines of all time.

Hands down, best leading man & leading lady pair EVER. Their chemistry is palpable. This movie is a classic. Makes me wish I could turn back the hands of time.

Back in the 90's I was having problems at home and desperately wanting to leave. I was sewing garments up like crazy because it was cheaper to make them and then took this passion to the Fashion Institute of Technology for a degree in pattern making. Do You Know Where You Are Going was my theme song! It helped me through some tough times.

Although this was an excellent film and one of my favorites. He couldn't see her vision, but wanted her to see his. She returned to him in the end, but your passion just doesn't disappear overnight. We as women make many sacrifices for love and our families. Smh

One of my favorite movies. The fashion, the beauty. The messages within the storyline. The challenges of cultivating a relationship while chasing personal goals. Beautiful.

It wasn't just "a man" that did not see Tracy's dreams. Others did not see her dreams because they either had fulfilled their own dreams or just thought of her as "the help" or easily replaced. This is when one really has to PUSH to bring their dreams to fruition. It is YOU that must believe in YOU. After that, it's an adornment.

How come Diana Ross doesn’t have recognition. This lady is incredibly talented.

One of my favorite movies of all time! Diana Ross designed most of the dresses in this move. She is one of the last iconic divas still living.

All 3 men wanted to OWN her. Billy Dee needed her for her light and energy to build his dreams. The photographer wanted to keep her like a doll for only him. The rich guy wanted to own her life her talent her beauty.. Not one of them wanted to be there for her. Its amazing how ppl look at your light like a firefly lightening bug. And want to capture it for themselves. They don't want you OWNING YOUR OWN LIGHT you were born with.

I always loved the outfits Diana wore in this movie! I've always felt she was actually a really good Actress. Go head Miss Ross!! This and Lady Sings The Blues are some really good ones!

I haven't seen this or heard the theme song since 1975, now I've got goosebumps-- the incomparable Diana Ross.

I'll never forget seeing this movie for the first time when I was about 10 years old. I was flipping through the channels (this is before cable) and it had just started... It was about 10pm at night, and I was really tired. However, I couldn't stop watching it and was completely beguiled by Diana Ross. What a beautiful story... And I don't care what kind of music you like, nobody with half a heart can tell me that that theme song doesn't warm up your entire body with nothing but bittersweet serenity.

Hair is laid..color and all ..opening brown feathered roller set..simply devine elegance!

My Senior picture was my own hair. even Janet Jackson wore her real hair in those times. This was before that big hair Diana wore. A whole new fashion for her and Janet. A wonderful classic. I saw it when it first came out. I am a dress designer and a seamstress and I can identify with her struggle and the choices you have to make in order to pay the price if you want success and/or love.

I read that she and Flo Ballard had a phone conversation before Flo's death and this film was mentioned. Flo supposedly told her that she liked the movie but felt the end was unrealistic. Said there was NO WAY Tracey would have seen the world and traded that life to move back to the hood. I'm with Flo. LOL!

What a beautiful movie and it was made in time when African Americans didn't have star power, but Ms Ross help change all that for all of us as people of color.

Or a Oscar award winning Range ! The unemployment office scene made me. Know it she actually knocked it out of the park and the project photo shoot scene too! I have a new Respect for the boss! I can add this to one of my favorite movies list and DAMN ME FOR NOT SEEING IT SOONER!!

Damn, I haven't seen this movie in 25 years. I always loved the line from Billy Dee Williams "Success is meaningless without someone in your life to share it with".

When I was in Rome ,I was determined to have my picture taken at that fountain she was pushed into I mentioned it to my driver,he was unfamiliar with the film and didnt know the fountain. He dropped us off to shop,and when he picked us up,he told us he had researched and found the fountain. I was so happy,and I got my pic,funny thing is I didnt realize until I watched the movie AFTER returning home,that i had possed like T.Chambers ,but i was holding my umbrella instead of a fur muff.As we were about to pull off ,I smiled when I saw a van pull up to the same fountain and a Black woman emerged smiling for her own photo.

You I watched this movie when I was a baby girl back in the 80s. Saw it through different eyes then, all caught up in tv romance and didn't know a thing. Now, I still find it moving, but I'm afraid I can't....... I know he's trying to make the neighbourhood a better place for people, but it would have been just as great if he supported her and her dreams.... Why did she have to give up everything just so that she could have his love. KMT

Was in my final year at Uni and they played the Album-Mahogany daily and almost perpetually in the cafeteria. Fell in love with album and artist and 44 years later came across the movie which I never heard of and loved every moment and Diana Ross has climbed 1000 steps higher in Super Star esteem. Best Movie theme of all time!!!!!

I went to see this in the theatres when it opened in Toronto with my first bf . Loved it …..Diana was our / my first glamour diva artist followed from that day on . The theme song always gets me back to those carefree days myself . And the line In the picture : “ success is nothing if u have no one to share it with “ has over all the years at times popped into my mind . Watching this now in 2024 for the first time since all those years ago . Sweet memories , poignant remembrances of days gone by .

As a Latino/Black Man, I have always enjoyed Black entertainers looking glamorous and successful (albeit the drama that's part of the story). And specially back in the 70's, when HARDLY any Latinos were seeing on mainstream media playing dignified roles, at least it was comforting to see that part of my heritage had some representation.

This movie is a "Class" I could identify even though Im Mexican American, it hits us all in the heart and soul!. Life is about good change, equality and humanity. I love this movie. Diana Ross, Billy Dee Williams and Barry Gordy were a wonderful team!!

My take from this movie has always been to strive hard to fulfill your dreams and aspirations(man or woman) but if you are standing alone at the end of your journey what was it all for?...True happiness does not always equate to riches and fame!

Never, never give up on your dreams!

It's funny how everytime I read comments on this movie they feel she settled but I don't completely feel that way. She found herself and original vision in the end. Brian didn't care about her dreams and aspirations at first because he had his own. They had to do what was best for themselves which was separate. Then Brian tried to come into her world(when he came to Rome) to meet her half way/support. By that time Tracy had lost herself and Brian wasn't going to watch her destroy herself. Tracy was doing drugs, drinking and being brought into the crowd of followers. Brian was willing to humble himself while she wasn't. She had her trust in the wrong person who had an obsession with her trying to control her every move. She had ppl who believed in her but she lost her core values. Brian was the alarm in her head of that. I mean the very fact she was about to have sex with a man who she didn't like was a tell sign she lost herself. When she got herself together she realized Brian was the one who really cared. I hate in the movie she completely left her life behind and went backward instead of taking what Brian said and moving forward.
