There was so much great music in the 1970's that great songs like this are often overlooked. This is so much better than anything being produced today.
Hang on tight, 'cause you're in for one Hell of a wild ride! I've been into Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush since they first shot to stardom in the 1970s. For whatever reason, they went from being world famous in the 70s to almost forgotten by the 90s, after which the band broke up for a while. In the early 2000s, however, Frank and the boys learned that they had a very large number of fans online, so they reunited once more. Frank has since had to give it up due to medical reasons (I can relate) but at least people are still finding and sharing his incredible musical legacy. Rock on!🤟
Ahhh yes, the 70's...hanging with my running buddies, smoking herb, chasing girls and listening to Mohagany Rush, Zeppelin, Judas Priest, the list goes on...so many great bands making great music back then. No autotune and other studio trickery...just raw talent.
Frank Marino (and Mahogany Rush) was huge in San Antonio...saw him live and he really put on an astounding show...his whole band was amazing. Jammed endlessly...he did not disappoint.
Yes to both. Saw him headline the summer jam in 80 or 81 with Angel, Humble Pie, Mothers Finest, and I think Blue Oyster Cult. Black Sabbath was supposed to headline, but I think either Ozzy or Dio just left the band.
@Rock n Roll Kid I used to have cassettes of my recordings of Joe Anthony’s Battle of the Bands at midnight. Unfortunately, they disappeared over the years. I keep hoping to find actual archives. There are playlists on RU-vid, but I hope someday to find the original recordings. One of the battles included Frank Marino, I think.
The first time I ever saw Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush was at The Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas back in the 70's it was cool. If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 80's you were blessed!😎
Rhythm section is tight Jimmy Ayoub plays a double bass drum kit In Paul Harwood stays tight with the drummer there are great rhythm section. They're definitely locked in with each other that makes it phenomenal for guitar player when you have a great rhythm section and they sound bad-ass for a. Three piece
I remember(sort of) picking up this lp from a record store in Killeen Tx , right down the road from the main gate of Ft Hood. Kept the album from 76 to 97 when I lost everthing in a fire. The guitar was just so amazing, I would listen to it when I was alone and with my headphones. Even now I feel the way it relaxed me and take me away...
Bought this on vinyl when it came out in 76 when i was 16.....Being a guitar player from way back, Frank Marino, Robin Trower, Alex Lifeson, Rory Gallager were all guitarists we wanted to sound like.
I saw him at Cal Jam II i was 15 5 of us ditched school and drove out there in my friends 4 door '67 Fairlane, he in my opinion was the best of the show, been hooked on him since , I even bought a '64 Gibson SG in a pawnshop for $85.00 which i still have and play.
One of Frank's iconic tunes and one of the tunes that introduced me to him back in the mid seventies. My first Mahogany Rush album was Mahogany Rush IV that I got while I was a teen in high school. I did not know then just how great he was but I sure know how great he is now. Frank Marino one of the greatest guitarists that will ever live.
Awesome guitar sound, being that Frank was plugging his SG into Acoustic brand, solid state amps -- which were sort of frowned upon in guitar circles at the time. But the sound he got was impressive. And listen to those drums! The Canadians knew how to record drums! And Jimmy Ayoub's drums and Paul Harwood's funk-tinged bass really make this song work. Frank's ethereal, jazz-tinged guitar work are the icing on the cake.
You discovered a gem lad . Saw him 3 times between 75' and 79. If you get a chance go see him ; even better live. Be well young man and check out his song , He's calling....
Not only is this music from my time I was 16 in 1976. that's when I graduated from high school and that's when I met mahogany rush. On my way to California, we met at the Holiday Inn in Medford, Oregon June of 1976. I won't go into detail on how we met that's a story all on it's own. but know every time they came to the west coast I would get a call from Elliott to let me know they were coming and where they would be staying. and where to pick up my backstage passes. I always say music from back then can not be compared to any music today., no one makes music like that anymore nor will they ever be able to . music from era had feeling and had depth and soul. you could feel the music flowing through body and pulling you into the music. can't say that about any music today. because for one thing there isn't any heart or soul in their music. i feel sorry for those of you that weren't around in the 70's and 80's. not talking about being born then. doesn't count ... talking about being able to enjoy the music scene. i am now 60 going to be 61 in a few weeks and i will never ever forget those days. and i remember them down to the very details of what i was wearing and _______. best time of my life. can't ever replace those memories. as nothing can beat it.
I feel the same way you do, i seen Mahogany Rush at the Omni in Atlanta, he did the long version of this song and this song is stuck in my head. And you're right the 80's will never be matched ever again i seen alot of concerts back then and I'm fixing to turn 57 years old. I posted this comment on October the 26th 2019. Take care 🎸
What a player, what a guy that i've seen 3 times in smaller venues. Scraper of paint on the walls with terrific guitar power. He signed all of my albums. One of them twice. So much pleasure and excitement of listening that music. It's a mantra.
1978 Headed to a Little Dribbles State Tournament in Lubbock Tx and my brother told me he saw these guys at the Corpus Christi international Airport heading out. Crazy shit!
Wow...Mahogany Rush!! So big in the record collecting long hair mid 70’s...honestly had completely forgotten that band....so many fun bands to listen to then...smoke weed...no responsibilities....bands like Mott the Hoople...and Mahogany Rush!
The first time I heard this as a teenager. Was always in the front row at his shows when he would come my way through San Diego and elsewhere. Used to ride my skateboards endlessly in the Bowls to this song too.
JUST READ THIS ON MY 2ND PASS ALL THE STUFF I MISSED FRANK IF YOU READ THIS YOU SIR ARE HUGE IN MY DNA OF CHOPS I CANT PLAY PURPLE HAZE WITHOUT TRYING FOR THE LIVE VERSION BOMBS AND ALL I WAS AT THE SHOW IN HOUSTON IT WAS RECORDED AT I THOUGHT ALL THOSE STONERS WERE GONNA STOMP THE BUILDING INTO RUBBLE.. THIS SONG RULES ITS FUCKING GREAT IM GLAD TO BE ALIVE TO HEAR IT OVER AND OVER.
Sixteen in 76....this rocked our jukeboxes....3 songs for a quarter....20 for a lid...zigzag-n with killer rock coming from every point haha salute the dragonfly. Thanks for the upload man!
Love this one. Can't say enough about this guy's talent and abilities. This song has a great progressive quality. One of the few artists or bands that in my honest opinion would be in the same league with Pink Floyd. Seriously, I believe FM&MR definitely reached greatness (musically) on their level. Unbelievable vibes to their music, especially songs like this.
Always loved this tune. I remember hearing it on CHOM FM and thinking, "WOW, what a great tune, and there from my home town Montreal! Gave me hope!" Thanks Russ
I'm grateful to have been a teenager in the 1970's. The best music was created then because labels signed EVERYBODY and many great artists were signed because of this. Come the 1980's and beyond, you would've never heard of them because they would have never gotten the chance.
Only one word: Amazing! I was kid when Mahogany Rush IV° was published ...I was totally crazy for this song! And... obviously now! Frank Marino remains a great talent! ps: for years he has a big problem with his shoulder ... I wish him to get well as soon as possible ... from the heart!
Was at the concert where parts of the live album were taken from back in the day. The Wharehouse, New Orleans, La. Another one of the great players back then who could just burn the house down. Legendary!
I'm 65 and I figure there are 5 genius lead guitarists among us. After years of daily listening I KNOW Frank is one of them. Seen him 5 times live and I'd do it again if I could
@@cypan1........Son ; that's a vain , fucked up picture of more then likely someone else. You couldn't get laid in a morgue with a fist full of hundreds. Wearing women's panties is a severe behavioral disorder.......
Seriously underrated, dragonfly could have been recorded yesterday, so fresh still now. 35 years ago i first heard of mahogany rush, but hard to get hold of in England, praise be to you tube and how did i remember the name Frank Marino after all these years. Yeahhh baby!!!!!!!!!
Robin Trower, Pat Travers, Doug Markley, Frank Marino four of the most underrated guitar players in my book and among anyone who is anyone in the music world.
He was most active in the 70s when he had the same management as Aerosmith. But he kind of went low key after that for a number of reasons. But he still recorded and played but just not as much.
One of best piece of music ever written and performed. That must be one of the most underrated band in history. And Frank was also an amazing producer!
Maaaan, this takes me to another time and space! Dressed to the 9s, cruising in my 69 with my woman and blowing the speakers up with this. Don't have the car or the clothes but the woman is still with me. Thank you Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush!
Revisiting in Summer 2021... and struck by how great the visuals are in this one. Not just topsound, but the visuals are MY KINDA THANG. Love it love it love it long may Frank Marino rock on....
Thank you for posting this beautiful song 🎵❤. My brother took me to see you all in Florida in 1970 something can't remember ❤ . I was much younger than him but I had an incredible experience!! I miss him as he passed away last year 😢💖❤
Thanks for dredging this up little masterpiece ! What funky rhythm and beautiful vocals with Frank’s usual guitar fireworks - almost unprecedented high notes for the time - making that SG cry with the stars - god bless you Frank - your music lives forever 🙏
Master & Commander Of The Guitar 🎸 Extraordinaire !! Grab you by the jugular lift you up and shake all the loose change out of your pockets. Frank took no prisoners. He was all business
My first concert was to be SABBATH and van Halen at MSG NYC but it was FRANK MARINO AND MAHOGANY RUSH AND KANSAS about a month earlier 1978 a good year of music
I have this on vinyl. I've seen Jimi Hendrix live I've seen Robin Trower live But not Frank. Sort of a synthesized Jimi Hendrix Frank's not just good. He's really good.
I was 16 when this was first released...we burned the album up! Not too mention the juke boxes...we spun the wheels off this 45. Seems even sweeter today, like all real music.
Always been a fan of the way he played this song and how it was recorded. Now that I listen to it again - after years of not hearing it in a long time, I wouldn't change much (as a drummer).
