This whole band was incredible. The drummer Cozey Powell was way ahead of his time and Ronnie on the vocals was incredible. Ritchie Blackmore made great bands.
How does this song only have 20 million views? It is literally one of the greats songs ever written in rock history. I expected it to be at least 10X that.

Best rock singer ever always had a great voice, rainbow rising is a masterpiece such a shame he died. I saw him Solo and with Tony Iommi Geezer Butler and Vinni Appice in a band called Heaven and Hell in Manchester, amazing riffs and voice
I'm 60, never tire of Stargazer, it's THE all time Masterpiece. Can listen to it again and again and again. Dio and Ritchie together in this epic saga, I can see in my mind's eye every step of the way in the lyrics, just wow. Still after all these years, the best!
also 62 and totally agree, this is just otherwordly. NOTHING IS LIKE THIS THESE DAYS, and Iam a Deep Purple fan. Good to see Ritchie in his element AWESOME.
No kidding. I was born in 1965 and hung out with musicians a lot and had the greatest exposure to music. You mention super groups like Rainbow and hardly anyone I know these days remember them ... then I show them and they are blown away.
Why so underated and underplayed?. They constantly bombard you with queens bohemian rhapsody, led Zepps stairway to heaven etc...why isn't this up there with them...? Best epic rock song of them all ...
On reason is that Blackmore himself played this down in the Rainbow days. They never did it live in their later pop-rock years because Ritchie said it was 'boring'.
I agree, too. Maybe the greatest guitarist ( for me THE greatest) of all times but in 50th position in a newspaper, an amazing drummer and an extraordinary singer, a God, my God . Every time I listen this masterpiece, I ' m flying in the stars. If I can have 1 title on a lost island, it's Stargazer (and A light in the black, please).
I listen to Ritchie Blackmore’s masterpieces and understand that he did the right thing by leaving Deep Purple. Blackmore is a super talented composer and guitarist, he was cramped in the DP. Maestro. Without Blackmore, Gillan would not have happened, just like Dio
That's because the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame consists of a bunch of Fucking Corporate Hacks who wouldn't know Rock-n-Roll if it came up to them & pierced their eardrums. That's why Chaka Fuckin Khan is in there, she doesn't even play Fucking Rock-n-Roll.
The more I listen to this song, the more I realize how brilliant this piece of music is. It is in general, as a single thing - written and performed by all participants. The performance of each is combined with the performance of others both individually and as a whole. It is as significant a piece of music as the best works of classical music or jazz, its place is in the history of music.
That’s what I was thinking. It’s truly amazing the way they’re each doing their individual part while weaving it all together to create something that transcends the reality of mere humans.
@@patrickvangelder3349Well because he was out of Rainbow he was able to replace Ozzy when he was fired from Sabbath. So it was probably for the best (even though I prefer Ozzy).
@kristianrodriguez4676 fair. I'd take dio over ozzy any day. But heaven and he'll just didn't have what ozzy had with sabbath. Heaven and he'll was insane but ozzy and lommi were sabbath. Dio was metal
I've heard this song millions of times and it still gives me chills. I would often say I don't have one, but now after thinking about it, Stargazer is probably my favourite song of all time. Such a beautiful piece of music, and it always will be! I listened to this song about a month ago and towards the end I fell into tears. RIP Ronnie. The Greatest! We all miss you Ronnie.

I don't know if someone has already posted the lyrics... LYRICS High noon, oh I'd sell my soul for water Nine years worth of breakin' my back There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard See how he glides, why he's lighter than air Oh I see his face! Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it far? When do we leave? I believe, yes, I believe In the heat and the rain With whips and chains To see him fly So many die We build a tower of stone With our flesh and bone Just to see him fly But don't know why Now where do we go? Hot wind, moving fast across the desert We feel that our time has arrived The world spins, while we put his dream together A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky Oh I see his face! Where is your star? Is it far, is it far, is it far? When do we leave? Hey, I believe, I believe In the heat and the rain With whips and chains Just to see him fly Too many die We build a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But we don't know why Ooh, now where do we go INSTRUMENTAL All eyes see the figure of the wizard As he climbs to the top of the world No sound, as he falls instead of rising Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand Oh I see his face! Where was your star? Was it far, was it far When did we leave? We believed, we believed, we believed In heat and rain With the whips and chains To see him fly So many died We built a tower of stone With our flesh and bone To see him fly But why In all the rain With all the chains Did so many die Just to see him fly Look at my flesh and bone Now, look, look, look, look, Look at his tower of stone I see a rainbow rising Look there, on the horizon And I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home Time is standing still He gave back my will Ooh ooh ooh ooh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here But it's not home But it's not home Ooh Take me back He gave me back my will Ooh ooh ooh ooh Going home I'm going home My eyes are bleeding And my heart is leaving here But it's not home But it's not home Ooh Take me back, take me back Back to my home ooh, ooh, ooh
+perpetual61 They could have lived to be 100 years old and they still would have died too soon. Tragic, though, that they weren't really even old by today's standards.
Because they only have 3 great albums. Those are each among my favorite albums of all time, but there are only 3. Rainbow after Dio is basically a good pop rock band, not bad but not great.
@@24SparrowJack Cozy must have been one of the first people killed whilst driving whilst on a mobile phone Not very Rock 'N Roll. Such a waste of life. My favourite track with him drumming is Long Live Rock And Roll. Pure power.
How have I gone my entire life without having heard this? I'm in my 40s and just discovered this two days ago...I cannot get enough. I feel like my life is just now truly beginning.
You should hear an entire concert of Dio at Radio City Music Hall. Absolutely amazing stuff.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hTJhU7Nt4xw.html
I say it is THE defining song of Heavy Metal. Yes, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest had done some stuff before that, but they hadn't put it together in a package like this.
@@Ou-ok2tn You have me at an advantage. I have listened to some early Scorpions stuff, but not that early. I will listen in on it. Don't expect it to be this powerful, but I will give it a try.
Agreed. Ronnie has a beast of a song behind him, but holy hell his singing alone just grabs you and doens't let go. Ever. You feel every fucking word to the bones. I've had this thing on repeat for 3 days straight. 3 fucking days. And still can't stop.
I got to see the Rainbow Rising tour, and it was one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen. To see my favorite singer, favorite drummer, and the legendary Blackmore at their peaks was amazing! This song, and the incredible Light In The Black, were real highlights. I'm not sure, but this may have been the only time I ever saw Cozy Powell live, and he was a true powerhouse!
To many of us, he is the soul of Heavy Metal during these times as well. I suppose it depends on the listener mind you; however for me, he will always be the King of Metal. ^..^
@@Stratovair Dio literally invented the metal horns sign mate. Rainbow are one of the pioneers of early metal music, so you're either comparing them to thrash bands like Metallica or Slayer (which came much later) or heavy metal bands like Motorhead and Iron maiden, in which case I could see why you would not consider Rainbow or Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple etc to be metal.
If I ever had to choose my ten favorite songs of all time, I know it would be impossible, but I also know that Stargazer would be for sure one of them.
Same here. My top 10 would be: 10) King Crimson - Epitaph 9) The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony 8) The Court Of The Crimson King - King Crimson 7) Starless - King Crimson 6) Pulp - Common People 5) Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees 4) David Bowie - Heroes 3) Rainbow - Stargazer 2) King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man 1) The Beatles - A Day In The Life
O.K.! Top ten! But hard & heavy sh*t: 10. Judas Priest - Victim Of Changes 09. AC/DC - Night Prowler 08. Deep Purple - Highway Star 07. Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love 06. Saxon - Strong Arm Of The Law 05. Accept - Princess Of The Down 04. Motorhead - Love Me Like A Reptile 03. Iron Maiden - Phantom Of The Opera, Pentagram - Forever My Queen 02. I lived in Iraq up until 2007, I grew up under Saddam Hussein’s regime. To me Saddam was the wizard, there are so many parallels to this song. The first page of every single book at schools had The Wizard’s portrait, there were grand statues of him all over the country, there was one statue of him standing tall in one of the busiest squares in Baghdad with one arm lifted in the air, I remember when Baghdad fell in 2003 we were watching the live news coverage glued to the tv, they put chains around the statue and hooked it up to an American armored vehicle and the vehicle started moving, and the wizard fell. “Old eyes, see the figure of the wizard, as he climbs to the top of the world, with no sounds as he falls instead of rising, time standing still then there’s blood on the sand”. That moment is all I can think of while listening to this masterpiece, the lyricism is the best I’ve heard.
The zoom in towards Ronnie's face at the end made me very melancholy. He's been gone for over a decade, and this song came out so many years ago. An absolutely brilliant moment in time, frozen forever. RIP, RJD.
The whole song is amazing but I could be listening to the final part without ending. Ronnie's voice is so powerfull, epic and with such emotion that I just feel shivers literaly. That voice was just a gift to all music lovers.
There is no denying that this song is an absolute rock masterpiece. As many times as I have listened to it I have thought about exactly what makes it so great. While there is no denying that Dio and Ritchie are both incredible, for me it is Cozy that gets the most credit. In very few songs do the drums have as much of a distinct, powerful and profound impact on the piece as this one does.
Ha Screw ZEPPELIN .. Rainbow is So much Better .. ;) ........ Yea of course I like some zep ....... bit Over rated though ...... DIO and PLANT no Comparison .. Dio Kicks ass ..
@@gremlinjr2 You are discrediting the band that started it all quite a bit... Without Zep you wouldn't have Rainbow or Deep Purple Mk.2. Zeppelin II defined hard rock.
@@ArthaxtaDaVince777 Don't post rubbish, while Sabbath is my favorite band of that era, a close second is Zeppelin , Purple did Child in Time almost two years before Zeppelin did Stairway...so to say you would have those other bands if not for Zeppelin is crazy.
@@gypana Its not crazy you dumbass... Have you heard early Zeppelin? I'm talking late 60s Zeppelin. 1969's Zeppelin II defined hard rock... It caused Deep Purple to completely change their sound in 1970 to a crazy hard rock band with songs such as bloodsucker which almost sounded like thrash metal. Sabbath in the same year released similar songs which were influenced by Zeppelin 1 and 2. You got the hard rock with harmonica, heavy bass... This is some of the most basic hard rock knowledge, Led Zeppelin may not be the best but they were the band that completely changed the hard rock sound, which lead to Deep Purple Mk.2 and Sabbath.
