I never knew Maico made a rotary valve intake 250cc. engine. Did the 125cc. have it on the left side, or my memory fails ?

It looks like your memory failed 😉 All Maicos with rotary inlet valve had the carburettor and the inlet on the right side, also the 125cc models. Perhaps you had been fooled by some laterally reversed photo.
