This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it.

Another great episode of "Why the hell did I buy that?" I love the teardown and see you doing things with the stuff that you buy.

I don’t expect to see much in a teardown of that mock airtag but sure, show us its guts. I loved how the instructions said “GPS” ten or twelve times despite it clearly not needing it to work with Bluetooth.

Those temp probes held up really well in Alaska. We buried some poking out of a 10ft pvc pipe vertically to measure thaw/freeze levels in the ground. We put them in copper thermowells on the in and out of our industrial boilers to figure out how many btu we were getting from heating with various species/moisture levels of wood, and I put them in about a hundred buildings to signal if the heat went out so we could catch it before the building froze. They're fantastic once you get used to working with that weird 1 wire system. Each one has its own supposedly globally unique serial number which is kind of fun too.

Unless you build 250 bridge rectifiers, I'd say certainly a life-time supply!
@pileofstuff

They're also good for polarity protection, relay spike suppression and a ton of other things. But, yeah, my kids will likely be inheriting some of these one day.

Those plastic socket/connectors are my go-to for any application. I used to use the GX-14 or GX-12 metal aviation plugs, but over the last few years Aliexpress is offloading poor or even incorrect fitting plug-to-sockets within the same seller. These plastic ones are fantastic.

Thanks for an inspiring channel. Regarding the 1N4001, I only use 1N4007 which has a Peak Repetitive Reverse Voltage of 1000V instead of the 1N4001 which has a Peak Repetitive Reverse Voltage of 50V. They are otherwise identical according to the data sheet. The price difference is minimal.

The 'scam' is called brushing - you'll get a parcel, awesome. The sender will have created an account with your name and address - and will lodge a review that appears as you, being a verified purchaser. That said, it may just be a nice gift from your viewers!!
@AubsUK
@AubsUK Год назад
Came to the comments to say exactly the same. It's a way that the seller can increase their positive reviews without costing them too much. They harvest people's addresses/POBoxes. Unlikely to be anything bad against you, but it could be your name 'reviewing' their crap items!

Your video reminded me that i was in a need for some general purpose diodes :) i ended up ordering some FR207 almost for sure they are knock offs but they will do for my intents, also nice to see that you have been receiving free stuff, to me it doesn't seem to be a scam or a forced review move.
@GnuReligion
@GnuReligion Год назад
I did a similar thing, and ordered a bunch of FR107, instead of 1N400x series for 1A rectifiers. Is the FR series any better? (shrug) They do seem to be more widely manufactured -- maybe more modern somehow. The DO-41 package is certainly a lot easier to breadboard, than little glass 1N4148 in DO-35.
@tiagoferreira086
@tiagoferreira086 Год назад
@@GnuReligion Don't know for sure but i would also guess that FR series are more recent, they have a faster recovery time or at least referred in the datasheet, but they seem to have a slightly bigger forward voltage. For basic 50hz rectification i would probably go with the 1n400x... It all comes down to what you need, 1N4148 is the fastest tradicional diode you can find, they have incredible useful characteristics for what they cost and for their size. I personally prefer use the 4148 on the breadboard because they take small space and sometimes i get out of space in complex circuits.

It's probably not a scam, because I remember you saying there isn't much metric screws up there. I think the scam goes that they are scamming someone near you that bought an expensive item, and since you are close they send a cheap item to you, but give the other guy that tracking #, ie, he can track that something is coming, but they never send the big item so he never gets anything. I guess the Apple tag blips - maybe WiFi/Bluetooth - the nearest iPhone, and that position is sent by the phone to give the long distance tracking. Isn't there a car tracker that you put a SIM in, and that uses that phone network.

I do not know if you know the background of this "Bock" beer, it was so to say invented by monks, who duringbtheir fssting eriod of LENT were forbidden to eat anything, but religion allowed drinking. They came up with this very rich brew, also with high alcohol. "Doppel Bock" 'Double Bock' is a stronger (double) alcohol content. Apparently the original double strength can exceed 22% alcohol, though many (some) retail products do not reach that high. What is amusing is that fasting for the Lent Month(?) while consuming the BOCK beer, it was common for monks to gain weight. 😊😊😊

I bought two of the Bluetooth tracking keyrings a few years ago but i was not too impressed , It basically links to the program on your phone and if the data link breaks at any time the key fob beeps a bit and the program on the phone makes loud sounds then crashes. It seemed like a quick way to waste a coin battery. A similar more effective wireless beacon could be created with a rp2040W board 😀.
